Melrose Place Character Resurrected

April 6th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

It seems anything is possible in TV land—even raising dead characters from their fictional graves and giving them a new life on a new show. Laura Leighton is set to reprise her role as Sydney Andrews on the CW’s revival of Melrose Place, The Hollywood Reporter says.

Sydney schemed and plotted her way to a shocking car accident on the 5th season of the original show in 1997, when she was run over by a car on her wedding day and presumed dead.

While the hows and whys of her return are being kept secret, sources told the site she’ll play the landlord to the new tenants.

November 17th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Former bad girl Shannen Doherty has a new outlook on old pals, thanks to her turn on the CW’s revamped 90210.

The 37-year-old actress, who recently crashed at the W hotel’s $4,000-a-night Extreme WOW Suite in NYC while hunting for apartments, revealed to OK! what she loves most
about reprising her role as Brenda Walsh on the TV hit.

“Working with Jennie [Garth] this time around has been unbelievable,” Shannen tells
OK!. “I regard her as a true friend.”

Shannen admits that unlike in the past when the pair was rumored to have fought, she now looks forward to acting with Jennie, aka Kelly Taylor.

“Our scenes are always really good. We work really well together, and we just like each other,” she says. "People come to different places in their lives, and you meet up,” she says of her change of heart. “Suddenly, it’s like, ‘Oh, my god. I like you!’ ”

CW Plots ‘90210′ Spinoff!

Make way for a new batch of rich kids from Beverly Hills!

The CW Network is reportedly developing a spinoff to the original Aaron Spelling teen sensation, Beverly Hills, 90210, a soapy drama about a group of rich high school kids.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Veronica Mars creator, Rob Thomas, is in talks to pen the new show which has been put on the fast track by the CW. The network is expected to make a decision about whether or not to order a pilot by the end of the month.

90210 creator Darren Star is not involved this time around, according to sources.

At an event in L.A. on Thursday, OK! caught up with original 90210 alum, Jennie Garth (Kelly Taylor) who, when asked about plans for a possible reunion flatly said, "No."

No other details about the spinoff were immediately available. This would be the second spinoff from the 90210 series, which aired on FOX from 1990-2000. The first one, Melrose Place — also created by Darren Star — had a successful seven-year run on FOX and did not feature any major characters from 90210.

Zac Continues His Reign

At the Family Television Awards, Ugly Betty and High School Musical continued to prove they are the heavyweights in a family-friendly entertainment.

The preteen smash hit High School Musical 2 took home the trophy for Best Movie Musical (as if there were another choice!). And its breakout heartthrob star Zac Efron won the honor of being named Best Actor for his role as Troy Bolton in the movie.

Meanwhile, America Ferrera easily won the Best Actress title for her role as the fashion-challenged fashion editor on ABC hit Ugly Betty. But the night was anything but ugly for that show, as it also took home the award for Best Comedy.

Other winners for the night included the new ABC series Pushing Daisies, sci-fi fave Heroes and FOX brainteaser Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?

To see the highlights from the show, check out a special airing Dec. 27 on the CW at 9 p.m.

Taylor & Penn: Screen Siblings

September 20th, 2007

When OK! caught up with the cast of new the new CW show Gossip Girl, we found that on-screen siblings Taylor Momsen and Penn Badgley might as well be brother and sister in real life.

"He’s so much fun," 14-year-old Taylor tells OK! about Penn, who plays her older brother on Gossip Girl. "He’s like my older brother in real
life." And that brotherly love extends to Penn’s being a little overprotective of Taylor. "It’s crazy," Taylor explains. "They’ll be talking and
they accidentally cuss. Penn will tell them, ‘Uh, don’t say that around her.’ It’s so
cute!"

Taylor, who got her big break at the age of 6, starring as Cindy Lou Who in The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, also talked about working with Jim Carrey. "Everyone would laugh because he’s so funny, but I never understood any of his jokes, so I just laughed along."

She also had a bit of trouble distinguishing the man in the makeup from the real actor. "I just knew him as the Grinch, so I didn’t recognize him at the premiere. I asked my mom, ‘Where’s Jim?’ and she said, ‘He’s right there.’ And I was like, ‘No, that’s not him.’"
