The Davids are Swine Flu Free

May 15th, 2009

The swine flu scare has everyone around the world scared, and health officials overseas aren’t taking any chances: David Cook and David Archuleta were told by officials in the Philippines that they had to go have a thorough checkup before they could play a concert in a big mall on Saturday.

E! News reports that quarantine officials came to their hotels right after they arrived. Edgardo Sabitsana, director of the quarantine bureau, told them they could be held, arrested or detained and their concert could be banned if they did not cooperate.

The duo reportedly took a few hours to check out the terms with their attorneys before submitting to the examination. They also promised to watch for symptoms, including taking their temperature at least twice per day.

Good news for fans, as it seems the show will go on for the Davids.

David Cook Pays Tribute To His Brother

May 5th, 2009

David Cook has written a heartbreaking blog about the death of his brother, paying tribute to him as "a great man I knew."

The Idol winner’s older brother, Adam, passed away on Saturday May 2 after a long battle with brain cancer.

And just hours after David learned the news, he bravely kept an appointment to run in the Run For Hope in Washington D.C..

In the post on his MySpace page, he explained why, in spite of his grief, he took part in the race to support a charity that combats the disease.

"First, my brother never wanted his illness to affect others," he wrote.

"That was evident in the fact that he wanted his illness to have no part in my experience on Idol, a point he was quite adamant about.

"So, with that wish in mind, I ran and was involved with the event as an homage to him.

"Secondly, there are many people who are still battling, and by running and sharing my brother’s story, I hope that it offers those still fighting that much more resolve to not succumb to this wretched disease."

The star also used the post to offer heartfelt thanks.

"I want to again thank everyone who donated to the race and continues to donate, sent a kind email, posted thoughts and prayers, called, etc.

"I take it as affirmation that my brother was the great man that I knew, and whose ideals I constantly try to uphold in myself. It is with those ideals in tow that I vow to continue to speak out in hopes of raising whatever necessary to help eliminate cancer entirely."

David Cook’s Brother Dies at 37

May 3rd, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

When David Cook took the stage as grand marshal of Sunday’s Race for Hope 5K in Washington, D.C., it was with a heavy heart that he announced the passing of his oldest brother — and biggest fan — Adam, who lost his decade-long battle with brain cancer only the day before.

"I lost my brother yesterday… to a brain tumor," David told his fans after the race, which not coincidentally is a fundraiser to raise awareness and funds to fight brain tumors. "And I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else right now."

"I am consistently amazed at what survivors and the people in this audience do and go through," he continued. "It’s just amazing to me to see the resolve that survivors have. I lost one today… I lost one. But I gained 9,000. I will be here every year that they will have me."

Adam, 37, who was an attorney with a wife, Kendra, and two children, passed away on Saturday at his home in Terre Haute, Indiana. In April 2008, as David was singing his way to the top of the Idol charts, Adam was able to make the trip to cheer him on in one of the season’s most memorable moments.

How Carrie Underwood Stays Trim

March 24th, 2009

When Carrie Underwood won American Idol in 2005, she also scored a slimmed-down figure thanks to her busy schedule.

“I don’t really have time to eat junk food,” the vegetarian said.

Flash forward four years, and Carrie showed off her gorgeous gams during February’s Grammy Awards. Next up she’ll be baring her body at the ACM Awards in Las Vegas on April 5.

How does she keep her legs lean?

“My legs have always been really muscular,” the Last Name singer, 26, says. “Actually, if I work them out a lot, they can get, like, really big, so I do lots of squats and running. I work out four to six days a week. Even if I don’t do a lot, I just do cardio. It makes me feel better.”

The Oklahoma beauty doesn’t always diet, but award shows provide meal motivation.

“I do so good when I have a goal,” Carrie says. “I’m like ‘I’ve gotta look good because I’ve gotta wear this, that and the other,’ so I’m really good but I’m so off-the-wagon right now.”

How does the three-time Grammy winner cope with the pressure to be thin?

“I don’t think — for me, at least — there’s a pressure to be thin. I think there’s a pressure to be healthy because I go on the road. Last year, we did 148 live shows. We did so many concert dates. We were out on the road for months at a time, so for me it was a pressure to be healthy for myself, because if I wasn’t, then I’d get sick or I’d have a lot of problems when I was on the road.”

While Carrie doesn’t struggle with her weight, she steps up to defend Jessica Simpson – despite the fact she’s dating her ex, Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys.

“I‘m 5’3,” so if I put on five pounds, it looks like a lot more than it actually is,” she says of Jessica’s weight controversy. “I think she’s shorter than I am. The first thing I hear people say when they meet me is ‘oh my gosh, you’re so short, you’re so little’ because everybody looks so much bigger onstage and on TV and whatnot, so I think it’s kind of unfair.”

‘American Idol’ First, ‘Bachelor’ Next?

March 5th, 2009

Being an American Idol may make contestants famous, but it doesn’t necessarily help in the romance department.

Not only is season six victor Jordin Sparks, 19, single, but so is reigning champ David Cook, 26, and season five winner Taylor Hicks, 32.

The Time Of My Life singer is lookin’ for love after his split from fellow Idol alum Kimberly Caldwell in December. He confesses his ideal date involves “staying home, watching movies, and ordering a pizza.”

What does he look for in a girl?

“Nice, confident, funny,” the kind, caring Idol tells me. “Attractive’s always a plus. I don’t know. I don’t really have a type.”

After David wraps up his first solo tour in April, perhaps he’ll have another chance to find his perfect match.

Meanwhile, Taylor took his search for love to Live! With Regis and Kelly when he appeared on their “Dating With The Stars” installment last month.

Why does he find dating difficult?

“You’re moving around a lot,” the charming Southern gent tells me. “That’s kind of tough. You’re traveling and people are wanting your time. Your quality time is pretty important, you know? But when Regis and Kelly called me, you do it for good fun. In the dating world, I guess you’ve gotta put yourself out there.”

His ideal leading lady would be “funny, and she has to like great food and travel. I think entertaining most of all.”

What’s Taylor’s perfect date?

“Great entertainment and great food – whether it be movies or music or Olympic soccer.”

What’s the biggest lesson he’s learned in love?

“Patience. You just have to be patient and let things happen. Let it ride. Don’t force it.”

Never fear: Taylor’s not alone during his quest for love. His buddies keep him in line.

“Friends always keep you on your toes,” he says of their input.

Perhaps casting directors for The Bachelor should look no further than these eligibles to appear in their next installment.
