The stage is being set for Michael Jackson’s family to fight to gain control over his estate. Lawyers for Katherine Jackon, MJ’s 79-year-old mother, and two co-executors of his 2002 will, John Branca and John McClain, are going to meet in Los Angeles Superior Court today.
Before the will’s existence was revealed, the court had granted Katherine temporary control over his affairs. The will however, only gives her legal guardianship over his three children, Prince Michael Jackson Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince Michael II, aka Blanket. In the will, Michael leaves his estate to the Jackson Family Trust, his kids and various charities.
His estate is valued at more than $500 million, even though at the time of his death he was reportedly $400 million in debt. He had assets that could be valued as high as $1 billion, some reports indicate, including include part ownership in a music catalog of songs from the Beatles and other recording artists.
A separate hearing involving custody of his children with ex-wife Debbie Rowe has been postponed until July 13.
Mariah Carey first performed the Jackson 5’s "I’ll Be There" in 1992 on MTV’s Unplugged, a move that reacquainted fans with the 1970 classic. And now Mariah will reportedly be paying tribute to Michael Jackson with her version of that song during the King of Pop’s memorial service tomorrow at the Staples Center in L.A., TMZ reports.
Another big name performer rumored to be paying respect to MJ through music is Jennifer Hudson.
Over 1.6 million people have registered for tickets to the event, which will also be broadcast live at the nearby Nokia Theater. In anticipation of the large crowds, L.A. police are urging fans to stay home and watch the memorial service.

In a Friday morning press conference, the LAPD and organizers of next Tuesday’s memorial service for Michael Jackson at L.A.’s Staples Center announced details on how to enter your name into the pool of possible attendees and encouraged people without tickets to stay home.
A total of 17,500 free tickets will be made available. 11,000 of those tickets will be for the ceremony itself at the Staples Center and 6,500 will be for a live simulcast at the nearby Nokia Theater.
Starting this morning and ending 6pm PT on Saturday, you can go to staplescenter.com to enter your name and information. On Sunday, 8,750 names will be drawn at random. Each name will be awarded two tickets.
Those who are chosen will be given a code to go to ticketmaster.com, where they will be told where to go to pick up their tickets and wristbands.
If you’re not lucky enough to be chosen, the organizers of the event have arranged for a free live TV feed to be made available to all networks. The ceremony will be also be streamed online.
Because of the sheer cost and logistics involved in arranging this service, the LAPD has asked that, if you don’t have a ticket, to please watch the event "from the comfort of your own home." There will be no broadcast on the screens outside the Staples center and only those with tickets will even be allowed within the vicinity of the arena on Tuesday.
They also announced that there will be no funeral procession before or after the event.
Following reports that police are investigating NYC tattoo parlor East Side Ink because Rihanna decided she wanted to play tattoo artist last night, OK! spoke to one of the owners to get the details on how the whole thing happened.
The sexy singer had shown up around 8pm on Wednesday to visit her regular tattooist, who goes by the name of Bang Bang and is responsible for both recent gun tattoos and the “sssh” ink on her finger.
According to those at the high-end tattoo parlor, Rihanna was not planning on getting any new ink.
“We were all just hanging out, joking, laughing,” East Side Ink co-owner Yadira tells OK!. “Bang Bang decided that he wanted a tattoo from her.”
So he drew up a design — a simple umbrella with a swirly “R” under it — which was then transferred onto his lower leg. Rihanna, who had never tattooed anyone before, then went over the design with the needle.
