A Busy Day for R-Pattz

Excruciatingly handsome Twilight star Robert Pattinson had yet another busy day shooting his upcoming film, Remember Me on the streets of Manhattan on Tuesday.

James Bond himself, Pierce Brosnan, who reportedly stars as R-Pattz’ father in the flick, shot some scenes today, and TV news legend Diane Sawyer paid a visit to the set.

Friends & Family Attend Wake for Natasha Richardson

Friends and family held a wake for the late Natasha Richardson on Friday in NYC.

ABC News is reporting that a hearse carrying the 45-year-old Broadway star’s body arrived at the American Irish Historical Society earlier today. The late actress’s husband Liam Neeson, and their two sons arrived shortly after. Richardson’s mother Vanessa Redgrave and sister, Joely Richardson also attended.

Celebrities including Uma Thurman, Lauren Bacall and Diane Sawyer attended the wake as well.

Richardson’s body was moved to the society this morning from the Greenwich Village Funeral Home in Manhattan. Richardson will be buried Sunday during a private funeral service in Millbrook, NY, where she belonged to St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church.

Piven Adds ‘Salt’ to His Sushi Story

Is Jeremy Piven doing a little back-peddling here?

Last month the Entourage star said that he had to end his Broadway run early because of mercury poisoning, which he claimed that he suffered due to eating lots of sushi.

But this morning on Good Morning America, he told Diane Sawyer that his claim has to be taken "with a grain of salt".

When the host read Piven a statement from toxins expert Dr. Jeffrey R. Suchard which seemed to debunk his story, Piven seemed to falter a little.

Dr. Suchard said that it’s common for fans of fish to have up to six times the normal amount of mercury in their system — but it wouldn’t be a problem until they had hundreds, or even thousands of times the normal levels!

Faced with the docs words, Piven, who stopped showing up to perform in Speed The Plow in mid December — two months before it was due to close– told Diane: "You have to understand something — I’m not a doctor. I don’t even play one on TV, Diane. So you have to take everything I say with a grain of salt."

 

Let’s wait to see what the show’s producers (and their lawyers!) have to say about this latest development.

It’s a Girl for Nicole Richie and Joel Madden!

Nicole Richie is a mom!

According to a statement from the 26-year-old socialite’s rep, Nicole gave birth to a six pound, seven ounce baby girl named Harlow Winter Kate Madden Friday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The Simple Life star and her rocker beau, Joel Madden, checked into the hospital earlier in the day. This is the couple’s first child.

Also spotted there — her father Lionel Richie and her younger sister Sofia, a source tells OK!.

"Lionel is there with his youngest daughter and several other unidentified people," the source tells OK!.

Little Harlow is a week early — according to Joel’s brother Josh, Nicole wasn’t due until "some time" next week.

Today’s happy arrival culminates (and kicks off) a life anew for the former troubled celebutante. After surrendering herself for a DUI (for which she would ultimately serve an 82-minute jail sentence), Nicole confirmed her pregnancy in a three-party interview with Diane Sawyer in July.

“Yes, I am. We are,” she proudly declared.

Nicole vowed to turn her life around for the sake of her child, and, in December, launched the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation with Joel with the goal of providing opportunities for children and families in need.

“We’re just trying to do our part, but also to start our child’s life off right, and to have the right priorities and the right frame of mind for the next 20 years of our lives,” Joel, 28, told OK!

Diane Sawyer on Oprah: She’s an Example

At last night’s Glamour 2007 Women of the Year Awards, presentee (and 2001 Glamour Woman of the Year recipient) Diane Sawyer spoke to OK! about her pal Oprah Winfrey’s recent South African school scandal. On Monday, Sawyer interviewed Oprah about the school controversy for Good Morning America.

“I thought it was beautifully handled,” said Sawyer, of Oprah’s actions following the abuse reports. “I know she is aching and her heart is broken from this. But she is doing everything she can possibly do and I think it’s demonstrating to people everywhere what we do when a child says they need help.”

 

Trouble at the leadership academy began two weeks ago when several students accused a dorm matron of physical and sexual abuse. The woman was suspended and eventually dismissed from her job at the school. She was later arrested on charges of assault and indecent assault and was released on bail yesterday morning.

In response to the allegations, Oprah has given each student a cell phone with her phone number programmed into it. Oprah, herself a victim of childhood abuse, has called the current situation, “one of the most, if not the most, devastating experiences of my life.”
