KT Tunstall: I’m a Vegaquarian

January 21st, 2008

Scottish singer KT Tunstall, 32, fills me in about her "vegaquarian" diet.

Why are you a vegaquarian?
I eat fish but I don’t eat meat. I’m so glad I do eat fish because it means I can go to a regular restaurant and – one of my backing singers is a full vegetarian, and sometimes it’s so difficult because the vegetarian option is the fish.

In my everyday life, I feel like I ‘ve got the choice to not eat those animals. I love them too much.

Also I have the feeling that fish have a fairly uninterrupted life until they’re caught whereas the battery farming of animals and the hormone injections and antibiotics and all of this – the modern farming technologies for cattle can be really alarming.

When did you become a vegaquarian?

It was when I moved to London five years ago. When I left Scotland. I grew up in a pretty rural part of Scotland where you’re driving along and there’s a field of ten sheep next to the supermarket or you see the local butcher van going to the slaughterhouse, which is next to a field with sheep or cows in it. You see the cows grazing, living out their life. You know that that’s where it comes from, and it’s all a fairly natural process. You hope that it’s done humanely, but certainly the animals have a quality of life.

Then I got down to London and I remember having a ham sandwich in a gas station and going ‘I have absolutely no idea where this had come from or even what it is. It’s processed meat. For all I know, this is just the stuff on the floor and they’ve shoveled it up and put it into a package. I’m sure that’s not far from the truth as far as processed meat and a gas station sandwich.’

It really put me off, and also I started dating my boyfriend. He doesn’t eat meat. He didn’t eat fish for a long time but he started eating fish.

I actually found that I felt much better when I started. My physical makeup seems to react really well to not eating meat. I’m a big food lover, and I find that I can eat more and suffer less of the consequences of indigestion or putting on weight from not eating meat. That’s why I feel healthier not eating it.

Mariah Carey: “How I got thin!”

September 25th, 2007 / Author: cwillett

At the 10th Anniversary of VH1’s Save the Music, Mariah Carey showed off her trim, new figure. The pop singer is estimated to have lost 25 pounds and she attributes it to what she calls “a bleak diet.”

“It’s about discipline. I have a lot of discipline,” she told OK! Mariah has an album coming out this fall and decided it was time to get in shape.

Britney’s Wild Night

September 19th, 2007

Considering the last two days of Britney Spears life, in which a former bodyguard came forward to allege that the pop star abused drugs and alcohol, and the judge in her ongoing child custody battle ordering her to undergo regular testing for illicit substances and to meet several hours a week with a parenting counselor, you’d think the last place she’d want to be seen was out and about is an L.A. club. Well, you’d be wrong.

At 12:45 a.m. last night, OK! witnessed Brit exiting L.A. club Winston’s with Avril Lavigne and a handful of others. They all piled into a black Cadillac Escalade and headed over to Hyde nightclub, where they met up with other young celeb-types, including Cisco Adler and Leelee Sobieski.

While Avril made her exit from Hyde at 1:45 a.m. with billionaire layabout Brandon Davis and Britney’s cousin, Alli Sims, Britney remained inside until after 2 a.m., at which point she slipped out in a white Mercedes convertible with a female friend.

No word yet on whether or not the pop princess needs to be worried about failing that first court-ordered test.

Britney: “I’ll Starve Myself!”

September 19th, 2007

UPDATE: Only hours after being ordered to undergo drug and alcohol testing, Britney was out and about on the L.A. club scene, first hitting up Winston’s nightclub with her cousin Alli Sims and fellow pop star Avril Lavigne, and then moving on later to Hyde. More to come on this one…

As the judge in her custody battle with ex-hubby Kevin Federline orders Britney Spears to undergo testing for drug and alcohol use, OK! can report that friends of the beleaguered pop star are worried sick that her starve-and-bing relationship with food may be pushing her even deeper into despair.

"Britney told me, ‘I’ll starve myself because I’m fat,’" one friend of the singer reveals to OK!. "She kept telling me she thought I was fat and disgusting."

For all the details on Brit’s dangerous diet habits, pick up the new issue of OK!, on sales Thursday.
