Stars Celebrate Valentine’s Day

February 14th, 2008

Celebs love to be loved just as much as everyone else.

While Sheryl Crow, Keyshia Cole, Cassie and Christy Turlington will be working, newly engaged KT Tunstall is celebrating the day in Scotland. “We’ll be checking out wedding venues,” she tells me.

“I’m gonna…,” George Clooney, who is dating Sarah Larson, jokes.

“This is going to be my first Valentine’s Day in three years on my own,” Jesse McCartney tells me. “It just might be me on my couch this year. And the TV.”

“I’ll be ordering room service,” Rachel Bilson says. “I’ll be in a hotel room here. Hahaha.” As for his plans, her boyfriend Hayden Christensen says “nothing right now.”

Ryan Reynolds, whose movie Definitely, Maybe opens today, says, “My plan is to run out with 150 of my closest friends and see Definitely, Maybe.” Costar Rachel Weisz says she hopes to go out to dinner. “It’s very hard to get the kids together,” she says. “It’s very sad. I might stay in.”

“The best Valentine’s Day – or the ones I always liked – is when my boyfriend would remember it was Valentine’s Day,” Vanessa Carlton tells me. “That was always a plus.”

Cupid’s arrow certainly puts Brody Jenner in a good mood.

“Usually my mom is my Valentine but this year, yes, I’m going to have a girlfriend,” Brody tells me. “Honestly, it’s been a long time since I actually celebrated Valentine’s Day.”

Selma Blair will be single this VDay. “I’m going to sleep,” she laughs. Gossip Girl’s Dreama Walker tells me she has a date with Ben – and Jerry. (Ha ha) “Dublin Mudslide, definitely.”

How did the stars spend their most memorable Valentine’s Days?

"Last Valentine’s Day I had a show, but afterwards I hung out with my boyfriend and all my friends and their boyfriends," Colbie Caillat tells me. "We went to dinner." (She has a new boyfriend this year.)

“We went for a balloon ride,” Phil Donahue, who is married to Marlo Thomas, tells me.

Naomi Judd remembers, “We went for a ride in our ’56 T-bird, and it’s got those bucket seats. It doesn’t have bucket seats – it has a bench seat. So we put the top down and rode around the countryside with my arm around him, so we can get up snuggly.”

Half the battle is knowing what interests you – and what doesn’t.

Emily Mortimer and hubby Alessandro Nivola know what they’re not going to do. “Not go out and sit in a restaurant with 25 other couples looking into each other’s eyes,” she tells me. “It’s terribly embarrassing.”

And sometimes it’s about a different kind of love.

Gone Country host and country singer John Rich tells me, “My grandmother’s birthday is on Valentine’s Day, so it’s always cool to celebrate her birthday. My grandmother makes all my stage clothes. She’ll be 77 this year. I wear rhinestone jeans and rhinestone shirts – all these crazy outfits. I’ve had big artists come up to me and say ‘man, where’d you get that?’ I’m like ‘oh, my Granny Rich made that.’ She’s a real part of my career and my imaging. Her birthday’s on Valentine’s Day, so I always load her up with a bunch of flowers. She has a little alteration shop in Tennessee. It’s always cool on Valentine’s Day to take care of Granny Rich.”

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!

How The Stars Spend Super Bowl Sunday

February 3rd, 2008

Football’s biggest night is a great time to whoop it up.

Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively tells me she’s going to chow down while she watches the Super Bowl live in Phoenix.

“The more fattening, the better,” she laughs. “Nachos, hot dogs, whatever they have. I’ve never been to the Super Bowl.”

She’s not alone in pigging out.

“I’m usually at home with my family, eating junk food,” Cassie tells me. This year, she’ll be in L.A. promoting her movie Step Up 2 but she considered going to Phoenix.

“I don’t know much about football,” Gossip Girl’s Dreama Walker tells me. “I think my friends and I are going to rent out boxes and maybe see if we can win some money.” Still, if it doesn’t involve her favorite team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, she says, “I don’t really have anything to do with it.”

Some gals couldn’t care less about the game.

“I’m performing Super Bowl Sunday," Keyshia Cole, who is part of the Valerie Gallery, tells me. "They’re having a private party for the NFL players, but I’m sorry, I am not into football. Usually I might take my dogs Lyric, Lola and Gizmo to get groomed … or maybe clean up.”

How do the players get ready for football’s biggest night?

While the New York GiantsAmani Toomer tells me “I try to relax as much as possible” before the big game, his teammates are more serious.

“I’m just trying to take care of my body, making sure that when the game rolls around, I’m in the best shape I can be in,” Michael Strahan tells me.

“These guys are a very good football team,” Brandon Jacobs tells me. “We know we’re going to have our work cut out for us, so right now we’re getting our game plan on.”

Good luck to the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. May the best team win.

Brody, Ivanka, John, Cassie Give Props To Pepsi

January 30th, 2008

Sports and showbiz mix during the Pepsi Stuff Launch Party held at NYC’s Pacha.

While New York Giants players Michael Strahan, Amani Toomer and Brandon Jacobs laugh off celeb romance questions, Ivanka Trump takes off her coat.

“So cold!” she says. “I just came from the office. I’m that girl who is fixing myself up a bit in the bathroom.” Her must-haves? “Purpose facial soap, and in the office, Pepsi.”

Here is Brody Jenner, who tells reporters he thinks Nicole Richie will be a great mother, and now we’ve got Cassie, who is stunning in a cut-to-the-belly-button top and oversized shiny black boots.

How does she keep her fab figure? “I try to eat healthy and take care of myself,” she tells me. “I dance and rehearse and rehearse and rehearse with my choreographer.”

John Legend and I catch up for the first time since I saw him perform at the St. Lucia Jazz Festival in May. “That was beautiful,” he tells me. “Great beach, great water. It was fun.”

Next up is Gossip Girl’s Dreama Walker, who helps a pal fix her hair. “Will you get my friend in here, please?” she pleads with a photographer. “Her name is Jo.”

How is she spending her time off during the writers’ strike?

“I’m really bored,” Dreama says. “I’ve done a lot of shopping. Just relaxing. My friend and I were thinking about taking a trip to Europe. There’s really nothing to do, but thank God there’s auditions for plays and movies. I have an off-Broadway play coming up, which is good. That will keep me occupied for a little while.”

Meanwhile, Prince Charming is whisked upstairs to the VIP section, where he’s waited on hand-and-foot. He tells me Kobe sliders, Hawaiian chicken, scallops and Glenlivet Scotch are being served, and Ivanka shyly says ‘hi, how are you?’ to him.

Ivanka is the greatest. Every single member of the Trump family is super-sweet including Donald, Ivanka, Donald Jr., Vanessa, Melania and Ivana. They’ve got the perfect blend of brains and beauty – and serious spunk! The Donald reminds me of my uncle, I see him so often — seriously.
