Obama Is The New President!

January 20th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

We have a new President!

President Barack Hussein Obama has been sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America.

Our first African American head of state has now taken the oath and finished his truly historic Inaugural Address.

Now he and First Lady Michelle Obama are getting ready for the parade to the White House.

Ending months of speculation, Michelle was dressed in a sparkling, mustard-yellow suit and coat by Isabel Toledo.  Now we just have to wait to see the gown tonight!

And since every star in America seems to have relocated to Washington for the Inauguration, here’s some gossip from OK!’s own reporter, on the scene in what seems to have become Hollywood D.C..

Here’s what we’ve spotted from our prime spot outside the Capitol.

Oprah wept as the new President was sworn in — although not actually crying her eyelashes off, as she had promised she would! Her best pal Gayle King was by her side for the big moment.

We also saw the new First Daughters, Malia and Sasha, trying to take the whole thing in together.

"Malia was taking pictures with her own digital camera and tending to her sister," says an onlooker. "It was so sweet!".

Not enjoying himself quite so much, though, was President George W. Bush, who got a frosty reception to say the least.

"There was no applause for him at all," says a source on the Mall. "People were booing and singing, Hit The Road Jack.

"And when his helicopter took off, people were yelling, ‘Get out of here!’," they added.

"Everyone was going nuts for Barack, of course. Before he took the stage you could here the cheers coming in waves down the Mall, getting louder and louder as it got near the front," says our source.

"It was captivating and compelling. But when he started talking, you could hear a pin drop."

Right in front of OK! — in what we’re going to call Oscar Winners’ Row — Dustin Hoffman took in the historic moment, along with fellow winners Steven Speilberg and Forrest Whitaker.

Aretha Franklin belted out a moving redition of the National Anthem, followed up by a piece by classical music masters Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Gabriela Montero and Anthony McGill.

Watching President Barack Obama make his address — along with an estimated four million others in Washington — were long-time Obama supporters Puffy, Beyonce and Jay Z, Tatiana Ali, one of the Democratic Baldwins, Billy Baldwin, as well as Chris Tucker, Spike Lee, Jessica Alba and her husband Cash Warren.

We’re also hearing rumors that J Lo  and Marc Anthony are somewhere in the throng, but haven’t laid eyes on them yet.

We hear that Tyra Banks was in the thick of it with two (yes TWO!) personal bodyguards.

Have we missed something? It isn’t Tyra who’s getting inaugurated, is it?

She’s also refused to have any pictures taken of her. But while Tyra seems to think she’s important enough to warrant all that fuss amid one of the most important days of the century — the organizers don’t seem to share her view.

They lumped her in a pen marked ‘general media’ — right alongside OK! — rather than putting her in a VIP section.

"Nobody was getting special treatment," said someone sitting nearby. "That’s why it looked so ridiculous her sitting there with two body guards. It was so obnoxious!"

But most swept up in the moment was Trudie Styler, who, we’re told stood with hubby Sting and "dancing, singing and smiling — she’s seemed very excited!," said our source.

OK! Exclusive: Ellen & Jen Hit Hollywood Baby Bash

October 19th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Jennifer Aniston, Dustin Hoffman, Ben Stiller, Ellen DeGeneres, Jack Black, Tobey Maguire, Kate Beckinsale, Jonah Hill… That’s a list of stars that you’d expect to see at an exclusive blockbuster movie premiere or major awards show.

But on Sunday afternoon, these A-listers were making a very different kind of scene as they all attended the first birthday bash for Sacha Baron-Cohen and Isla Fisher’s baby daughter, Olive.

Jen, who made birthday headlines earlier this week when she celebrated on-off-on beau John Mayer’s 31st, arrived at Isla’s Hollywood Hills home hiding on the floor of the backseat of BFF Courteney Cox and David Arquette’s car.

Proud mom Isla greeted each of the celebrity guests at the front door as they arrived for the party. Oscar-winner Dustin Hoffman arrived just as Jack Black and his family were leaving. The Rain Man star made a big scene of his disappointment, pretending to smash his gift on the hood of Jack’s car and then playing peekaboo with onlooking photographers from behind the oversized package.

Getting into the party spirit, David Arquette acted as both parking valet and security guard for the cowgirl-themed bash. He even wore a t-shirt with the word “insecurity” emblazoned on the back, as he did his best to park the party guest’s cars and keep the paparazzi at bay.

Though witnesses tell OK! he could have done a bettter job with Ellen’s new Mercedes, which he managed to get wedged between two other cars.

When OK! spotted Ellen and wife Portia de Rossi leaving the party, we asked if they had any valet-parking tips for David. “Stay in school!” Joked Ellen.

VIDEO: Leo Wants You!

October 1st, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

While they may be Democrat or Republican, some celebrities don’t want to tell you who to elect as the next president, but they do want you to exercise your right to vote.

Leonardo DiCaprio and a few of his famous friends recently gathered to make a public service announcement urging viewers to make sure they’re registered to vote before election day. Sources exclusively tell OK! that the star-studded PSA was filmed at Leo’s L.A. home.

"I mean you do know that, right? You have to register first before you vote," says Leo in the almost-five minute spot.

Over three days the Body of Lies actor and his production company, Appian Way, put celebs like Tobey Maguire, Forest Whitaker, will.i.am, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Courteney Cox, Ellen DeGeneres, Jaime Foxx, Jonah Hill, Dustin Hoffman, Natalie Portman and more in front of the camera to get the message out to unregistered voters, asking them to also tell five friends to do the same.

The spot urges viewers to go online at that very moment to register, many saying they’ll wait while you do so.

"I’ll wait too," adds Sarah Silverman. "I’m going to take off my bra under my shirt."

Despite Protests, Katie Perseveres in Broadway Debut

September 18th, 2008

Judging by the crowd of screaming, sign-carrying protesters gathered outside the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in Manhattan on Thursday night, you would think a political rally was going on inside, and not the Broadway debut of actress Katie Holmes.

Wearing masks and holding signs with salacious slogans like "Free Katie!", "Scientology is a cult!", "Run Katie Run!" and "Free Katie! Keep Tom," many protestors shouted their distaste with the religion of choice for the former Dawson’s Creek star and her hubby, Tom Cruise.

"We’re not protesting the play, we’re not protesting her," explained one protestor who goes by the name of Little Sister. "We’re just showing her support pretty much. We’re showing her that she can have the strength to leave… We’ve seen Katie in recent televison and she looks miserable. She’s lost a lot of weight. We’ve seen her with purple hands."

According to the anti-Scientology crowd, they are are worried about Katie and her two-year-old daughter Suri. They also alleged to OK! that the Church of Scientologists had been attempting to stop the protest.

At one point, a fight nearly erupted outside the theater and police were forced to step in to calm things down.

However, despite rampant rumors that protestors would interrupt the actual performance, the audience inside the theater — including Oscar-winner Dustin Hoffman in the fourth row — was well-behaved as Katie made her way through her first live performance of the Arthur Miller play All My Sons.

In fact, the audience cheered as Tom entered the theater and took his seat near the front of the house. He even took the time to share a brief embrace with Dustin, who later stayed behind to offer his congratulations to Katie.

As for her actual performance, one audience member tells OK! that Katie was "actually pretty good. She has her hands on her hips a lot like she’s posing for pictures and she projects her voice a bit too much, but she’s a good actress."

Regardless of any minor shortcomings, when the final curtain closed, the audience applauded, giving Katie and her co-stars a standing ovation.

"Tom had a huge smile on his face after the show," says one witness, who spotted the superstar actor heading backstage to congratulate his wife.

Outside, the pre-show crowd had swelled to more than 150 screaming fans and dozens of photographers as a half-dozen police officers on horseback patroled the crowd who now carried signs pronouncing, "Well Done Katie!"

Jason Bateman saves the day at ‘Mr. Magorium’ premiere

November 15th, 2007

It’s sheer madness when Natalie Portman, Jason Bateman and Dustin Hoffman step out for their Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium premiere held at DGA Theater in NYC. The family fantasy is in theaters Friday.

Natalie struts her stuff, smiling for the cameras as if she’d been doing this since she was 13. A word for the press? Not so lucky, and she dashes in to the theater without a peep. Apparently, she’d like this photo to speak for itself.

Dustin must not be able to hear what we’re saying. His wife Lisa, who tells us she’s wearing Prada, joins him. What’s his favorite role he’s ever played? “My wife,” he says. “That’s my wife.”

Hopefully Jason will save the day. (He’s typically up for it.) He jokes to me about his character, making the toy store fantasy out to be a slasher flick. “That’s a spoiler,” he cautions. Now that he’s a dad, he says he can relate to this role. “I’m in touch with being vulnerable, human,” he says. “I’m in touch with my little person inside.” He tells me he recently celebrated his daughter Francesca’s first birthday by taking her to her favorite places.

Does the movie’s eleven-year-old star, Zach Mills, believe in magic? “A little bit,” he says. “I’m not at the point where I still believe in the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny. I still kind of believe in Santa Claus. I’m a little suspicious.”

Abigail Breslin, who is here with her mom, says she’s never had a magical toy store fantasy, but would take a superpower if they were being doled out. “If I could fly all over the place, that would be cool,” Ab says. “Vroom.”
