Prince Charles on Doctor Who?

October 13th, 2008

Who says royalty has to be stiff?

Tune in to the BBC in 2010, and you could see Prince Charles appearing on Doctor Who, a popular British TV show about a time-traveling adventurer.

While the show’s executive producer Russell T. Davies jokingly labeled the Prince a "miserable swine" after Clarence House turned down the TV invite, a spokeswoman for the house, the Prince’s official residence, says Chaz could still appear on the program.

"We did receive a request from Doctor Who’s producers,"  Retuers quotes the rep as saying. "It was not turned down by Prince Charles but by a Clarence House official. We receive hundreds of requests and he doesn’t see them all."

"It’s not uncommon for people to resubmit requests with different criteria and if it was resubmitted we would look at it again," she adds.

Royals Rock Out

September 29th, 2008

Prince Charles knows how to party, apparently, and he’s planning two royal bashes in the upcoming months to celebrate his Nov. 14 60th birthday.

First a formal banquet will be held on Nov. 13 at Buckingam Palace, with guests like Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and then on Nov. 15 the Prince will have an event at Highgrove House, his family home, with 75 guests.

The two parties will be organized by Michael Fawcett, an expensive event planner chosen by Prince Charles’ wife Camilla.

“Camilla has worked extremely closely with the Queen and Michael on the formal birthday dinner. It will be an extravagant event with a lavish banquet," the Daily Star quotes a source as saying.

“Camilla is making the Highgrove party very much her own. She has invited Princes William and Harry and Kate Middleton and Chelsy Davy, as well as her children, Tom and Laura.”

However England, like America, is under a credit crunch right now as well. And just days before the announcement of the parties, the Daily Star says the Queen’s aides were seeking money to add to her 7.9 million pound civil list payment, which pays for upkeep her her household and expenses.

The Real Life of the Ritchies

Despite just being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and her gazillionth new album, Hard Candy about to drop, Madonna insists that life inside her sprawling English manor is really a very quiet one.

"We have chickens and build tree forts there," the Michigan native, 49, says of Ashcombe House, the English countryside estate she shares with her hubby of eight years, Guy Ritchie, 39, and their three children, Lourdes,11, Rocco, 7, and David,2.

The Material Girl tells OK! that she drags herself out of bed every morning at 7:15 a.m. and has breakfast with her kids before sending them off to school. A strict disciplinarian, Madonna says it’s strong-willed Lola who most reminds the singer of herself.

"Lola rules the roost," the singer says. "She is extremely maternal toward David but is in major competition with Rocco. But he’s starting to fight back."

Of not allowing her kids to watch TV or read magazines, Madonna says, "You have to show them who’s in charge. If you give in to them, they’re going to run your life."

The singer tells OK! a typical day for her includes regular Pilates and dance aerobics, shooting, fishing and riding horses. "I love horses," she says. "I think I may have been one of Henry VIII’s knights in another life, riding through a great forest."

At the end of the day, Madge sits down to a dinner of "fish, some kind of grains, some kind of cooked vegetable and salad." An admitted control freak, the singer reveals she and Guy are addicted to their blackberries, even sleeping with them under their pillows!

"We lie right next to each other with our blackberries under our pillows," she laughs. "I often wake up in the middle of the night and remember that I’ve forgotten something so I jump up and make notes. Guy’s always waiting for me to come to bed, so he plays Brick Breaker on his blackberry until I’m ready!"

When asked if she has any advice for people wishing to know her secrets, Madonna tells OK!, "If you want to know how I look like I do, it’s diet and exercise and constantly being careful," she says. "There is no shortcut to being Madonna!"

The Bachelor’s Matt Grant Reveals Secrets From the Show!

March 10th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

ABC’s new resident bachelor, Matt Grant, is hesitant to reveal too much about the upcoming season of The Bachelor, but he’s quick to assure OK! that the show fulfilled his expectations.

"I definitely found love and yes, they [the women] lived up to my expectations. It was incredible, I’m still buzzing about it now, the 6′5" British import says.

Grant, 27, tells OK! that he’s always been attracted to the confidence of American girls.  "At a really young age my brother brought back an American girl," he says. "She was really fun, pretty, outgoing and good with the family. From that point on I always had a thing for American girls. Plus they also tend to know a bit more about sports than British women."

Grant, a global financier, continues, "I was looking for a girl who was going to make me laugh… someone that’s going to stand out… it’s when you walk into a room and you say ‘that’s the one.’"

Given the grim track record of couples staying together after the show, did Grant have reservations? The Brit says he didn’t watch previous seasons and had no knowledge of the show before he agreed to do it.

"The previous guys weren’t me," Grant explains. "I was confident that I could come on this and be myself… I’m not too concerned with track records."

So assuming Grant did find his ‘lady love’ on the show, does he plan to take her back to England or is he contemplating a move to the U.S.? "It’s not up to me, we’d have to discuss," he says. "Either country is great. They are the two best countries in the world."

The season premiere of The Bachelor airs March 17 on ABC

Angelina’s Political Plans

September 25th, 2007

It was confirmed this morning by British officials that UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband was to take a meeting later this week with one of America’s most influential political figures — no, not some senator or cabinet member, but Angelina Jolie, star of such films as Hackers and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

While the details are still to be determined, the content of this meeting of the minds (Miliband prides himself on being the first high-ranking Brit official to blog. Neat!) will likely revolve around Angie’s current work as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador to the High Commissioner for Refugees.

That, or maybe Miliband just wants an autograph.

Regardless, this confab, sure to dwarf the Camp David Accords or the Yalta Conference in its place in history, will take place this Friday in New York City. Perhaps between trips to FAO Schwartz with her kids.
