That George Clooney is always such a gentleman, he makes everyone else look selfish in comparison. Or we could be just a bit biased due to his extreme handsomeness. Gallant George helped girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis as they left the Hotel Excelsior during the 2009 Venice Film Festival on Tuesday.

Word to the wise: Be careful what you write about country superstar Toby Keith. That’s a lesson one unfortunate reporter learned on Sunday night in Las Vegas, when an irate Toby opened a can of verbal whoop-ass on him in public.
To give you a bit of back-story, actor/director/novelist Ethan Hawke recently wrote a story for Rolling Stone where he detailed an alleged confrontation between country legend Kris Kristofferson and an unidentified singer, who is quite obviously supposed to be Toby. And then the story got picked up in Nashville’s Tennessean newspaper on Friday — a move that apparently hit too close to home for Keith, who took that anger with him into the press room at Sunday’s Academy of Country Music Awards.
When Peter Cooper, the Tennessean reporter responsible for Friday’s item, opened his mouth to ask Toby a question, there were more fireworks than the Fourth of July!
“You from The Tennessean? You wrote that article?" asked Toby of the reporter. "You thought that was funny — calling me Moby Teeth? You better watch yourself.”
Witnesses inside the press room tell OK! that Cooper stumbled to answer the questions, but Toby just kept rolling attacking the writer for trying to paint him as the unnamed person in the original story.
“You thought you could dance around it — funny ha-ha – but it was me. Who else wrote a song about bombing enemies? Who else does car commercials?" As for the man behind the Rolling Stone item, he added, "You think Ethan Hawke knows me? You think Ethan Hawke can sing a chorus to one of my songs? Or one of my 62 million spins? Doubt it! So you took the story and you Moby Teethed it and took it to another level."
Attacking Cooper with endless streams of F-bombs, Toby pointed out that Kristofferson has come out in the singer’s defense. "You think Kris Kristofferson motherf***d me? Kris Kristofferson said that sh** didn’t happen. He e-mailed Rolling Stone and said that shit didn’t happen. And you still wrote your story?
“Who supersized the story? You take credit for that?" he continued, grilling Cooper even more. "You and Ethan Hawke are guilty. He doesn’t know me, that di*k didn’t call me [to] ask me what I thought.”
Refusing to let the issue die, he continued, "I’m struggling being here with you in the room. You ran it and took it to supersize French fries and now you have to answer for it."
Glaring at his prey, Toby declared, "You’ve never sh*t in your f-ing ass like you have right now. Do you want to ask me another question?" To which Cooper wisely shook his head "No."
Toby’s tirade had the ACM press room at a standstill. "You could hear a pin drop," one witness tells OK!. "It looked like Toby was going to knock the crap out of Cooper, who looked horrified!"
And, according to another source, that was Toby’s goal all along. The insider explains that the outspoken star had talked on Saturday night about looking forward to the chance to have it out with Cooper at the awards.
Looks like he got his wish.

Ethan Hawke and Liev Schreiber indulge their passion for prose during a Young Shakespearean event held at The New Yorker Festival.
Get this – it’s Liev’s birthday, and he’s celebrating it here! Talk about devotion to the craft. He bubbles with enthusiasm when he talks about studying Shakespearean acting in England, and calls out Othello’s Iago as the character he relates to most.
Uh-oh! According to Wikipedia, Iago is one of Shakespeare’s most sinister villains because he betrays while maintaining a reputation for honesty and dedication.
“I wanted people to think that I was like the characters I played for years,” Liev tells me. “I thought it made me look smarter.”
Ethan sees more similarity in his current projects.
“Whatever I’m working on at the time is really the only honest answer,” he tells me. “I’ve been trying to look at this Scottish play, and managed to see that everything related to him. All your life, you’ve always been greedy for more. Nothing’s ever enough. Oftentimes the things you want end up being destructive to you. You don’t accept yourself the way you are.”
Ethan continues, “Now I’m supposed to be working on Winter’s Tale. All of a sudden, I start to see myself as this character. Yeah, I’m a rogue, I’m a wanderer, I don’t know what I’m doing. The beauty of this writing is you become more of yourself.”
Celeb baby alert! The famous fathers mention their kids. Ethan is dad to Clementine, 3 months, with wife Ryan, and Maya, 10, Levon, 6, with ex-wife Uma Thurman. Liev is dad to Alexander, 1, with wife Naomi Watts, who is expecting their second child this winter.
Ethan says, “I’m curious of what language will mean to my kids” in regards to our text-happy society while Liev relates “I’m noticing now that I have children, certain kids have an ear for language and others don’t.” Da-da!
Now that the actors enjoy notoriety, they’re looking forward to making their dream projects come true. If he were older, Liev’s son would surely blush when he mentions a project inspired by NYC nightclub The Box.
“There’s this new resurgence of burlesque and there’s a new literary porn thing going on that I think is very interesting,” Liev says. “The sexual stuff in measure-for-measure would be suited really beautifully to that. To me, it’s all pretty much about sex, desire and all the accompanying functions.”
He continues, “I’ve been trying to work out a measure-for-measure with a Berlin cabaret vibe to it. I know these really cool Romanian musicians and burlesque performers from Queens. They’re just fantastic performers, and I really dream of being able to put it together for the public.”
Ethan reveals that he’s teamed up with director Richard Linklater to develop their career-ending remake of Shakespeare’s King Lear.
“He has this dream that we’re going to do a production of Lear on film to beat Peter Brook ’s and Scofield’s production,” Ethan says. “We just need to start working on it now. He’s ten years older than me, so when he’s 85, it’ll be his last film and it’ll be my last film — because I haven’t taken as good of care of myself as he has – at 75.”
Really?!
“We read and watch film versions of it and talk about it,” Ethan says. “Whether we do it or not, I don’t know, but that’s something. In life, I feel I need a goal line.”

It’s another girl for Ethan Hawke!
The actor and his wife, Ryan Shawhughes, welcomed a daughter on Friday, a rep for the star confirms. Clementine Jane Hawke was born in New York City and is the first child for the couple.
The duo quietly wed mid-June, five months after announcing their pregnancy.
Clementine is the third child for Ethan. The 37-year-old is dad to Maya, 10, and Levon, 6, his kids with ex-wife Uma Thurman. Ryan used to nanny for the children.
Uma, 38, has moved on as well — she recently got engaged to millionaire Arpad Busson.
Heath Ledger is the star of the Dark Knight premiere, even though he cannot be present at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square event.
Though his life was cut short in January, Heath’s memory lives on. Attendees including Ethan Hawke, dashing through in a brown-and-white baseball cap and beige suit; Josh Hartnett, who twirls through in a brown cap; and Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick, who is dressing his curly hair with a side part, pay tribute.
Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is in the movie, has no time for print, which is also what happened with Heath at his last premiere for I’m Not There – and at 2005’s Casanova. (I was fortunate enough to spend time with him at The Regency Hotel during the I’m Not There press day. He seemed like a great guy – totally dateable.)
It’s no wonder he was a hit with the ladies. In November 2005, he and then-girlfriend Michelle Williams stepped out for the Gotham Awards. According to my file, “They were giving each other goo-goo eyes as he cradled her during TV interviews.”
Sadly, we must move forward without his towering presence.
Christian Bale, who plays Batman, shares a story about Heath playing The Joker.
“He did a fantastic job,” Christian says. “He enjoyed playing the part immensely and I was glad I got to experience working with him and watching him develop into character. Personally I enjoy anybody who immerses themselves to such an incredible degree. I enjoy that too. I recognize how ridiculous it is, and I find it incredibly funny. To be honest, the more serious people get with any role, the more humor I find in it. I find that with Heath.”
According to co-star Aaron Eckhart, Heath was a doting dad to Matilda, 2.
“Everybody on this movie had kids. Maggie, Christian … in the trailer, it was all kids talk. I’m the only one who didn’t have a kid. Heath had just had a baby, Maggie just had a baby, Christian has two kids, Gary Oldman had two kids. It was a lot of baby pictures and a lot of baby talk. That was mostly what was going on. I met Maggie’s, I met Christian’s, I didn’t meet Heath’s but it was a lot of pictures.”
Michael Caine calls Heath “very ordinary. He was a very quiet man, and very, very nice.”
He says, “I worked with Heath very early on. I’d seen his performance. We just sat there talking. He was very ordinary. He wasn’t preparing – you know – like ‘please leave me, I’ve got to be with my script.’ Some actors do that. We’re just talking, and the director said ‘OK we’re ready,’ and Heath goes into the elevator and he has to come out of the elevator and into a party and take over. Batman and I are giving a party. Out came this guy, The Joker, and I stood there absolutely stunned. I didn’t have any dialogue or I would’ve forgotten it. He went straight past me and over to Batman. I just sat there flabbergasted. Right through it we just talked, and he would do it over and over again – just come out with this energy.”
He adds, “I said to him one day ‘Jesus, I’m too old to do anything as energetic as this.’ And I said ‘wait a minute, I couldn’t have done anything as energetic as this when I was your age.’ It’s astonishing.”
Heath surely would’ve delighted in the Batmobile staged outside on the black carpet, and the motorcycle prop used in the movie that greets partygoers on the way into the screening.
The Dark Knight is in theaters Friday.
Ethan Hawke is still one step ahead of Uma Thurman.
While his ex-wife was busy getting engaged last month, Ethan quietly went off and tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend Ryan Shawhughes, Entertainment Tonight has confirmed.
The couple married in New York City, according to ET.
The two are expecting their first child together, which will be Ethan’s third overall. He has two children, Maya, who turned 10 on Tuesday, and Levon, 6, with Uma. Ryan was a former nanny for the children.
This is Ethan’s second marriage. The 37-year-old was married to Uma for 6 years, divorcing in 2004. Uma, 38, is currently engaged to millionaire Arpad Busson.

Will third time be the charm for Uma Thurman?
The actress is engaged to her millionaire boyfriend, Arpad Busson, the New York Daily News confirms.
Uma showed off her new sparkler — described as so big "she can’t fit it through the sleeve of her coat" — Thursday evening at Elton John’s 10th White tie and Tiara benefit.
Arpad, nicknamed "Arki," and Uma, 38, have been dating for a year after meeting at a dinner party hosted by Gianni Versace and Tony Blair in Milan. It will be his first marriage and her third.
The Swiss financier was once engaged to supermodel Elle Macpherson, with whom he has two sons, Arpad Flynn Alexander, 10, and Aurelius Cy Andrea, 5.
Uma, who dated hotelier Andre Balazs for three years before meeting Arpad, was married to Gary Oldman for two years in the early 90s and to Ethan Hawke from 1998-2004. She and Ethan share custody of their children, Maya, 9, and Levon, 6.
