Fashion Week Diary: Day 8

February 9th, 2008

At the Carmen Marc Valvo, inspired by the very glamorous Elizabeth Taylor in the 60’s, OK! was more than delighted to see that none other than hip hop legends and full on glamour girls Salt-n-Pepa sitting in the front row. Salt revealed that as we we’re speaking their show was being taped. "We’re wrapping up our second season now and if the people want us we’ll come back," Salt said. Meanwhile reality show veteran Pepa says she has Hollywood on the brain, "I was on the surreal life and I was wanted to get into acting and we thought it would be a great idea."

While Salt got her mic adjusted Pepa told OK! how she much she was looking forward to Carmen’s show. "We’re being introduced to his line. He’s a scorpio like myself so we bonded." As for the girls’ style? Salt said it best, "We’re more and less. Guess who’s more and guess who’s less!"

"This show has been good for our friendship," she added, "We’ve gotten to know each other again as adults."

But we really had to know when are we going to hear a new song? "We’re exploring that in the new season coming up. we’re trying to see how we can work together again."

Next up at the Willow show (think downtown and avant garde) All My Children star
Levin Ramblin sat front row and told OK! "I’m usually more edgy. I’m not like pink pink girl girl." In that case this was the perfect show for her!"

My final show of the season was the very snowy Zang Toi show, the profits of which went towards the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The clothes seemed inspired by snow, whether it be an Aspen snow bunny or a Russian ice queen. At it we caught up with former American Idol Constantine Moroulis. The singer/songwriter admitted that now a days when he’s not busy working on the Fox Reality network as American Idol correspondent than he’s trying to find the perfect Greek girl. Word is he’s got a Valentine, ladies, no word on whether she’s Greek.

And just like that, fashion week is over…until next season!

Fashion Week Diary: Day 7

February 8th, 2008

At the Naeem Khan show, which harked back to the designers Indian roots with lots of glitz and fabrics that looked like they could be used for saris. The show was Bollywood-esque. Project Runway judge Nina Garcia has no doubts that Naeem could go all the way in the competition. She told OK! "Are you kidding? He’s amazing! His clothes are very special. They’re unique."

Also in the front row was very Desperate Housewife Eva Longoria with her stylist the always-fab Robert Verdi. Eva said, "We’re inseparable!" And admitted to being a huge Naeem fan. "Oh my gosh! I love that he has a small ethnic touch to it. I love beads and sequins. I love shiny! I love the way he cuts his dresses. It’s very feminine. Yet, not over the top romantic. It’s more sexy and I love that."

A favorite among the society set and fashion editors, the Bill Blass show was full of lady like gowns and ladies who lunch suits. OK! caught up with stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe hasn’t used Bill Blass much before but senses a change for the future, "In the past not that much, but I’m certain I will now that Peter Som is at the helm."

She added, "I’ve noticed a lot of pencil silhouettes. I love that forties, fifties, sixties. I’d wear that."

Finally, Reem Acra had this year’s fashion week staples in the front row like Sophia Bush and Aisha Tyler. The clothes that are hipster lady like chic are a favorite in Hollywood. Sophia Bush told OK! "I love Reem and I think she’s an amazing designer."

"My style is evolving always," said the red carpet fashionista. "I love taking risks. I love being bold and feminine one day and very understated and slouchy the next day. That’s the license fashion gives you."

The currently single One Tree Hill star told us her plans for Valentine’s Day. "I’ll probably be curled up with my dog and my best friends and watch a movie and eat take out and relax."

Fashion Week Diary: Day 6

February 7th, 2008

At the very lady-like Nanette Lepore show at Bryant Park, OK! chatted it up with former Sopranos star Lorraine Bracco, who said fans are still angry the Sopranos are no longer on the air. "They’re very angry every time I meet people. They have nothing to do on Sunday nights and it’s not my fault! Call up HBO! Yell at them!" But Lorraine has found a new TV set to call home as she’s joined the cast of Lipstick Jungle. "I’m very excited. I think it’s great. I think the girls are fantastic," she added, "It’s great. I love it. I get to play the nemesis and I’m mean and ugly and I love that!"

Meanwhile Ana Ortiz has been hitting the Fashion Week scene nonstop but exposed her deep-seated reason why: "I’m born and raised in NYC, so I’ve always been a huge fashion fan. Being on Ugly Betty has given me the opportunity to have experiences like this."

The stars turned it out for the always very very popular Michael Kors show, whose lovely clothes embodied his American lady style. The front row was a who’s who of Hollywood including Eva Longoria, Ellen Pompeo and her Grey’s Anatomy co-star Eric Dane with wife actress Rebecca Gayheart. After the show, Kors fanatic Debra Messing was giddy after leaving the show. "I thought it was spectacular. I don’t think there’s a bigger fan!"

Outside the Mercedes Benz star lounge former OK! cover girl Eva Longoria says things are going great in her marriage, but kids? "Not anytime soon!" That may be a good plan of action as it seems the writers’ strike will be over soon and she’ll have to get back to work on Desperate Housewives. "Yeah everybody’s excited to go back to work. We miss our cast and crew."

Next up was Carlos Miele. His funky chic look worked well with the smoky makeup provided by MAC. Carlos’s neighbor ANTM’s Nigel Barker was excited to try it out for his friend. "I don’t think I’m a bad neighbor! Actually last season he lost a whole bunch of invites and I found them. They actually got redelivered to my address so I returned them to him. So I think I’m a good neighbor."

Fashion Week Diary: Day Five

February 6th, 2008

Backstage at the W lounge Jaime King who has a slew of movies coming out this year said, "No plans to slow down." The newlywed is still in the newlywed phase with her director husband. "We just married in November and it’s been awesome." She added, "I don’t know we haven’t made any Valentine’s Day plans, but he’s good at this kind of stuff!" Meanwhile her hubby Kyle Newman, director of the upcoming dork flick Fanboys said, "It’s great that it’s coming out. I worked on it for five years, so I’m excited."

At the Badgley Mischka show, Aisha Tyler admits she’s a huge, huge Badgley Mischka fan. She said, "This is my fourth Badgley show and when you watch it it’s elegant and beautiful." She added, "I like classicism with a bit of a rock’n'roll touch to it. I like elegance but with a bit of an edge."

Alexis Dziena
, who went fully nude in 2005’s Broken Flowers, said she found the guts to do it from her co-star Sharon Stone. "You know what mostly because I was working with Sharon Stone and she’s such a wonderful woman at giving advice and a veteran in that area. The best word of advice she gave me was when you walk into that room you have all the power. Don’t worry about them. So I think at the end of the day the crew was more nervous than I was."

Ugly Betty
star Ana Ortiz has been way busy playing a newlywed now that the writer’s are on strike. "The positive thing of the strike is that we can be here. I’m a newlywed so we’ve been lucky to have some time to spend together and fixing up our house and taking care of our dog."

Later on at Cynthia Steffe, we chatted with 30 Rock actress Katrina Bowden, who idolizes Meryl Streep and hopes to follow in the Oscar winning actress’s footsteps. With all the zany characters on the show, the 19-year-old revealed that off set things are less zany. "Everyone is great. Everyone is so funny. Tracey is a very funny guy. Alec is super sweet and very funny as well. It’s hard to pick who’s the biggest comedian."

Fashion Week Diary: Day Four

February 5th, 2008

After taking off Saturday and Sunday for the other fashionistas to hit up some shows, Day 4 started with a bang. Backstage at the uber chic Catherine Malandrino show make up artists Tom Pecheux told OK! "Catherine wanted it to be very organic and very graphic."

Meanwhile hair staylist Odile Gilbert added, "She has natural hair, like she did the hair by herself. The hair of a young girl. It’s fresh." Out in front the winding set up of the cat walk made it hard to do much celeb watching. But, the celebs that were there were of the fashionista set, not the Hollywood set (except for One Tree Hill’s Sophia Bush). But the show did not disappoint, toting noir as it’s theme. The highly embellished collection embodied luxury and sophistication from the 40’s. Aisha Tyler said of the collection, "There were a lot of beautiful couture touches that I liked. I loved all her jackets."

Next up was the always funky Betsey Johnson, who celebrates her 30th anniversary this year. Betsey never disappoints and toted the theme of Beat girls from the 1950’s. Loved the pencil skirts, ruffled tops and berets. I also loved the 1978 retrospection she did featuring lots of leopard print and spandex! America’s Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker revealed some secrets from the upcoming season of ANTM to OK! He said, "We’re back in New York. The judging panel is as excitable as ever. It’s a hark back to the old season when we had Janice on it. We have an incredible cast as well."

He added, "It’s the same old recipe, but with fresher and better ingredients!"

How Do I Look? host Finola Hughes gushed about Betsey, "She’s young and fun and her clothes have so much to do with me growing up in New York and Los Angeles cause I used to wear them all the time."

Also on hand at Betsey Johnson was Nigel’s ANTM co-star Tyra Banks, who decided to stay mum, as well as punk rocker Joan Jett, who jumped on the stay quiet band wagon.

Backstage at the W lounge before the star studded Max Azria show, I sat down with the very perky Brittany Murphy. She gushed about her marriage to writer/producer Simon Monjack, "It’s going wonderful!"

So, if it’s going so well the couple must have amazing Valentine Day plans, right? "Actually we don’t know what we’re doing. I think I’m working, let’s say they’re very top secret!" The actress is known for cool, hip style and since it’s fashion week we had to know how she would describe her style. "I always feel you can’t go wrong with chanel, no matter what week it is!"’

We had to know from the New Jersey native if living in Los Angeles has changed her allegiances to the city that never sleeps! "New York. LA has been very kind to me at certain times in my life. But New York is my favorite city on Earth!"

Then the celebs turned it out for Maz Azria, where everyone from Rihanna to Fergie sat in the front row. Though security was tight around the girls, Fergie told she’s already planning her wedding to Vegas star Josh Duhmel. "We had a Superbowl fitting party!"

Fashion Week Diary Day One: Part Two

February 4th, 2008

The AM had left me exhausted. And I had run into stylist to the stars Robert Verdi in ten thents earlier that day and he had invited me to his VIP lounge. How could I resist?

After stopping by Robert Verdi’s uber VIP, uber chic fashion week lounge where I was treated to getting my hair and make up refreshed (thanks Massimo and Kevin!), I made my way over to the Rag and Bone show. Backstage, hosted by Aveda and their green initiative, where models and hair were a plenty, I got the low down from the designers themselves of what their fall ‘08 collection had in store. Marcus said, "It’s very complete, but still very, very rag and bone. This season specifically our English heritage, blade runner is a strong influence this season, English military equestrian.” Meanwhile his partner in crime David added, “But it still needs to be modern and fresh and contemporary. They’re garments a lot of girls and guys feel they can look good in.”

The celebs were out in full force. Julianne Moore, Sienna Miller (who slipped in under the radar), Ellen Pompeo (who had no comment regarding Justin Chambers recently admitting himself into rehab), and even Gisele Bundchen arrived ready for the show.

Dirty Sexy Money’s Zoe McLellan, “It’s extremely sexy and very comfortable.” “I love it. We’ve been out on the streets. We’re really soaking up the city.”

Becki Newton, from Ugly Betty, admitted why she loves Rag and Bone so much: “It’s easy to wear.” But what is she doing now that the writer’s are on strike? “A lot of hanging around and enjoying the time off.” So we guess she’ll have a lot of time on her hands to come up with a fabulous Valentine’s Day to spend with her husband actor Chris Diamantopoulos. “We don’t know yet! We better start making up an answer!” Any babies in the future? “AHHH! No baby plans!”

Fashion Week Diary: Day One

February 2nd, 2008

At the fifth annual Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection fashion show everyone from Cheryl Hines to Heidi Klum to even the First Lady, Laura Bush, walked the cat walk to raise awareness for women’s heart disease. The highlight, of course, was Liza Minelli’s stirring rendition of “New York, New York!” OK! was backstage before the show started and spoke with Cheryl Hines. The Curb Your Enthusiasm star recently directed her first movie, Serious Moonlight, said, "It was a great experience. We’ll see how it all shakes out." We also had to know all about the future of her hilarious HBO comedy. “I talk to Larry about it all the time." “I don’t think you can print it in your magazine. No No. I think he’s open to another season. I don’t know you’ll have to ask him. I hope we do another season."

Meanwhile The Office’s Jenna Fisher was playing model for the day and admits she never has had model aspirations. "No never. I actually hate having my photograph taken. I’m a way bigger fan of talk shows. I actually like the idea of a runway. There’s movement, you’re walking. I go to try to make it without fainting or something." And admitted to us that now that while the writer’s are striking her biggest indulgence is The Real Housewives of Orange County. "I’m really sad that the Real Housewives of Orange County is over for the season. I love that show. I love that Vicky. She likes to party. She’s growing her business. Laurie’s wedding was gorgeous. So that turned out great, and I want Quinn to find a nice man. It didn’t work out with the golf instructor but maybe next season she’ll have more luck."

But worries about what the strike means for the crew of her SAG Award-winning sitcom.” I worry about our crew. I’ve heard a lot of sad stories about crew members who are really struggling. That makes me sad. The actors we are already overpaid for what we do but the crew members don’t. They’re like our family. We miss being at work."

We almost died when Jenna’s cast mate Angela Kinsley showed up, very pregnant, to show her support for Jenna. We told her how much we love Angela and she was shocked! "She’s nasty. She’s rigid. She’s a little judgmental but she loves her man. Her big geeky man!” she added, “I’m def southern. I’m not confrontational so it’s fun to play the bitch.” Although The Office is currently on hiatus thanks to the writers’ strike, we wondered what would happen if a very pregnant Angela had to be back in the Office next week! “That’s a good question! Now it’s late in the game so I feel like they’ll be hiding behind a file cabinet. I’ll be the blonde behind the photo copy machine for a couple of weeks."

Also on hand to strut her stuff was Allison Janney who’s been all over the place thanks to Hairspray and Juno, the biggest hit movies of the last six months! "How lucky was I? I’ve been having the best time. And have them be so well received. It’s been a blast!"

And 24’s Mary Lynn Rajskub sporting the beginning phases of a baby bump admitted, “The pregnancy is pretty good. I’ll eat any chance I get though. I don’t know yet, I think I’m not going to find out. I’ve been craving ice cream and pasta!" We also got an update on her co-star Kiefer Sutherland, who was recently released from prison. She said, “I heard from a few people that’s he’s doing well. That he’s happy and healthy and ready to get back to work."

After the show we caught up with Heidi Klum and had to know what she and Seal had planned for Valentine’s Day. The model admitted, "No plans yet. Seal always does a good job!"

They may not have Valentine’s Day plans as of yet, but any baby plans? "Not right now. Kids are so amazing. Obviously I could have thousands of them because they’re all so amazing and unique and different. But three is a lot. Let’s see what happens. It’s funny you have three kids and people always ask where’s the next one? Where’s the next one? Let’s start with one first!"
