Getting Fit with Josie Maran

January 10th, 2008

One glance at Josie Maran and you’re left with the image of a tall, thin, athletic woman. But looks can be decieving. On Dancing with the Stars, Josie’s partner, Alec Mazo, called her “deceptively unfit,” and a nation of viewers simply couldn’t understand that although she was skinny, she wasn’t necessarily in top shape.

Fitness Magazine set out to change that with a 30-day fitness makeover. With the help of a trainer and a nutritionist, Josie, 29, was quickly on her way toward healthier living. “Before, it was crash and burn, high and low,” she tells the magazine, on stands January 15. “It’s not like I had no energy, it just was really inconsistent. Now, I feel very even throughout the day.”

Fitness guru Michelle Austin and nutritionist Ashley Koff, who had Josie working out 30 to 40 minutes every other day and eating every three hours, helped Josie strive for her goal of getting toned without dropping weight. The results, Josie says, were amazing. “I still wear the same size jeans!” she jokes. Three weeks into her makeover, Josie reveals that she can feel her “pelvic wall getting really strong. I feel stronger in my core than I ever have, especially since I had my daughter, Rumi Joon, 18 months ago.”

The Sports Illustrated swimsuit model and actress adds that despite her profession—or perhaps because of it—she ultimately underwent the makeover for herself. “In my business, if you look good, no one is going to be checking up on whether you work out,” she says. “So it’s up to me.”

Kelly Ripa’s Sleepless Nights

November 13th, 2007 / Author: cwillett

One would think that talk-show queen Kelly Ripa would have no trouble catching some much-needed shut-eye when she turns out the lights and tucks her three adorable kids into bed, but that’s not always the case. “I used to smoke, so lung cancer is the thing that keeps me awake at night,” the 37-year-old beauty confesses in the new issue of Fitness. “I worry, ‘Did I quit in enough time? Did I do it for too long?’”

Another topic that gives Kelly a lot to think about is the heart scare that sidelined her Live co-host Regis Philbin for several weeks, and which she says is a reminder to stay on top of her health. Kelly also supports HEART for Women Act. The advocate explains, “As women, we’re more interested in stuff that affects us immediately rather than thinking long-term.”

One thing that’s certain is that Kelly doesn’t have to worry about looking bad in a bikini or a pair of jeans. Though she now runs three to five miles a day, one trick she lives by definitely gives her a boost. “I buy jeans that are tight in the rear end,” she explains. “I treat my cheeks like breasts in a push-up bra. I just reach down in there, lift them up and push them together.”

Marisa Miller Lets Her Secret Out

October 5th, 2007

With a body that turns heads everywhere, you’d expect supermodel Marisa Miller to adore the attention. But it certainly hasn’t always been that way for the 29-year-old beauty.

By the time Marisa was 16, she had busted out into a size D bra — something she wasn’t too pleased with. “I’d hide my body in a big T-shirt and baggy pants,” she confesses in the upcoming issue of Fitness Magazine. “Even now, I don’t like it.”

Despite the shyness, she does admit that stick-figure women do nothing for her. “I’m the girl who needs curves. I like my butt and my boobs.” And so does everybody else.

But the key with her job, she explains is, “You want your butt to bounce, not jiggle.” So to get her rear in gear, Marisa says tons of backward lunges do the trick.

This year men and women alike will be seeing her shake her little thing on the catwalk when they tune in to watch the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on Dec. 4. It’s her first year walking the angel-studded runway, and to stay disciplined, Marisa sticks to her normal routine, with a little more rigidness.

An avid surfer, she loves to be active when working out, but she also keeps to healthy eating by avoiding processed foods. “I try not to eat carbs for dinner because I don’t like to sleep on a full stomach,” she explains.
