OK! Interview: Flavor Flav

April 11th, 2008

In a world full of multi-talented celebrities, Flavor Flav has done just about everything. From his early days as co-founder of legendary hip-hop act Public Enemy to three different hit reality shows, he’s always managed to prove the doubters wrong. And so now he’s trying his hand in yet another new field — sitcoms.

With his new MyNetworkTV sitcom, Under One Roof, set to premiere April 16, Flav took some time out to talk to OK!.

What’s it been like shooting Under One Roof?
It’s a challenge to me right now. I’m reading lines and remembering lines and delivering lines. It’s a lot different than what I was doing on VH1. Doing scripted acting is a challenge to me. I can’t remember things to good so remembering lines is a challenge to your boy.

Have your co-stars given you any advice?
My boy Kadeem [Hardison] came through — he gave me some acting advice. Showed me how to break my script down to where I can start remembering it.

Have you seen the show yet?
The payoff is at the end of the work… I know I have a hit show on my hands.

So, will we see you on Flavor of Love?
I’m not doing no more Flavor of Loves. I’m trying to grow. I don’t want to stay on the same page. You can’t stay on the same page in order to get to the next chap.

How do you balance being a dad and having all these projects?
The time that I’m off is the time I try and see my kids the most. I try and take care of their needs. I try and spend a lot of time with my kids. I try and have fun with my kids. I try to put father time in there.

Most importantly, would you watch Under One Roof if you weren’t on it?
I sure would. The reason why is because I like watching myself on TV.

Check out Under One Roof, premiering April 16 on MyNetworkTV.

Flavor Flav’s Looking for a New Love

February 11th, 2008

They say the third times a charm, and no one’s hoping that more than Flavor Flav. The die-hard romantic is doing another round of his dating reality series, Flavor of Love 3, in hopes of finally finding Ms. Right. Since there was no shortage of ladies willing to battle for Flav’s heart, I had to ring up the man himself, who’s currently in Toronto filming his new sitcom Under One Roof for MyNetworkTV, and find out what makes him so darn irresistible.

How you doing Flav?

Like a coat in the closet, hanging in there.

Why did you decide to do Flavor of Love 3?

I decided to do another season is because Flavor of Love, I got kind of close to finding what I wanted, but the chemistry wasn’t there. Then, on Flavor of Love 2, I got a little closer. But the chemistry still wasn’t all the way there. Let me say this. For everybody, there is somebody. And in order to find that somebody, you got to go through people. You know what I mean? The only way I can find who’s for me is to keep going through people. I’m getting close.

What went wrong with Hoopz and Deelishis?

Hoopz is a great girl, the chemistry just wasn’t there. And then with Deelishis, she got real busy, we just really didn’t have the time to be together.

What are the Flavor of Love 3 gals doing to win your love?

I have the girls doing different challenges. If you watch any of the promos on TV, you can see that Flavor Flav is sky diving. Sky diving is something that I always wanted to do, and I want a girl who’s going to be down with me.

What’s the secret to your appeal?

I’m the kind of guy who is just so real with it. I’m very humble. And yes, Flavor Flav is definitely a gentleman. Every woman loves a gentleman. I get a little romantic and it’s the whole nine, light the candles and pop the cork, all of that.

What do you think of New York and Tailor Made as a couple?

Just to have the power to be able to help someone get their own show – New York is the spin-off of Flavor of Love – New York, she’s definitely crazy with it, just like her mom. I’m very happy for her and I wish her longevity with whomever she found. I’m just glad that it wasn’t me.

Tell me about your new show, Under One Roof.

Your man Flavor Flav gets to recite lines. He gets to learn scripts. It’s not like reality TV. I’m going to show the world that there’s more inside of me. I play the part of an ex-con from the streets. It’s funny, I ain’t going to lie. I got some funny parts.

How do you remember lines?

The real trick is studying the line and doing it no more than four minutes after I studied it. I’m serious. My memory span ain’t all that good. So I rehearse the line real quick and then say, “Let’s put it down!”

Valentine’s Day is coming up. Did you find love on Flavor of Love 3?

Only way I can really tell you that is you got to see it all the way to the end. If I give it to you now, I’m giving you my ending. But this third season, it’s bananas, you’re going to love it!

Flavor of Love 3 premieres Monday, Feb. 11 at 9 p.m. on VH1.

Flavor Flav Gets a Sitcom

February 5th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

In yet another unexpected career turn, founding member of legendary hip-hop group Public Enemy Flavor Flav, who rose to the top of the reality TV pile on two seasons of his VH1 dating show Flavor of Love, is now set to give scripted comedy a try with a new sitcom on MyNetwork TV.

In Under One Roof, Flav plays ex-convict Calvster Hill, who moves in with his wealthy, conservative brother Walter played by Kelly Perine. Of course, along with Calvster come his prison buddies and his wild ways.

“I’m real excited," says Flav about his new show. "I want to thank MyNetworkTV for believing in your boy because we are about to blow this out of the water. I am about to take MyNetworkTV and make it MY network."

Under One Roof is set to air on MyNetworkTV in the spring.
