Florence Talks Sex, Drugs and Bad Hairdos

November 3rd, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

On Monday’s Morning Show with Mike & Juliet, TV’s most famous mom, Florence Henderson,  got down and dirty about some issues close to her heart.

Of her ever-changing hairdo on The Brady Bunch, Florence says "I don’t know what I was thinking…I don’t know what was wrong with me and I never did drugs!"

Henderson, who currently stars in a one-woman show called All The Lives of Me, talked about her Brady Bunch co-star Maureen McCormick’s new book, which details the actress’s drug abuse.

"We all knew, Henderson said. "Especially during the Brady Bunch Variety Hour…She wouldn’t show up, or she’d be late. You know that there are problems…and my heart always went out to Maureen, because it took her a long time."

Florence says that when McCormick finally did get clean, Henderson was the first person to take her under her wing.

"When she finally kicked it [cocaine] I took her to lunch and I said, ‘Maureen, tear up your address book. Those people are no good in your life. Get rid of them!’"

Mike & Juliet also read a passage from McCormick’s book where she refers to Henderson as a "closeted sex pot" who liked to parade around topless.

"Well I was never a closeted sex pot!" Henderson joked. "I’ve always been a sex pot!"

Christopher Knight Responds to Florence Henderson

July 11th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Three days after Brady Bunch TV legend Florence Henderson ripped into her one-time co-star Christopher Knight’s marriage to reality star Adrianne Curry, the My Fair Brady star has released the following scathing statement in response:

"I feel compelled to respond to recent statements made in the press by my long time friend Florence Henderson about my marriage to Adrianne Curry.

Let me begin by saying that I love Adrianne with all my heart and can’t begin to imagine life without her. Our marriage is as true and certain as the love we share as husband and wife. Although we met under the most unlikely circumstances our romance then and relationship now is as real as any that have ever been created.

"It hurts me deeply that someone that I have loved and respected for so many years; someone that has held an esteemed position in my life would discuss overtly negative personal opinions about my marriage in a public forum. Since I was a child I looked up to Florence as a consummate professional and as a woman of unique class. I can only hope these recent comments are an aberration or better yet, taken out of context.

"My love for Adrianne may have emerged and blossomed from uniquely odd circumstances. Yet the challenges this had created for us seem to pale in comparison to the challenge it has created for some persons to believe in us. It is no secret that Florence and Adrianne don’t see eye to eye. In truth I can empathize with both sets of views but in the struggle I am hoping one day these two women will bridge their generation and philosophical differences, calling my marriage a sham helps so very little.

"I put forth the hope that one day both Adrianne and Florence, both of whom have played an integral role in my life, will find a way to come together in a peaceful and respectful way. In the mean time the sanctity of my marriage should not be called into question."

Sincerely,
Christopher Knight

Florence Henderson Rips on Brady Son’s Marriage

July 8th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

For several generations of TV viewers, Brady Bunch star Florence Henderson was the ideal suburban mom, never saying anything that wasn’t cheery and uplifting to her brood of six TV children. Well, it wasn’t the Carol Brady we all know and love who startled reported at a Television Critics Association event in L.A. today when she ripped into TV son Christopher Knight’s reality show marriage.

While promoting her upcoming Hallmark Channel movie Ladies of the House, Florence made it pretty clear that Christopher’s foray into reality TV, which includes stints on The Surreal Life and two seasons of My Fair Brady, which saw the actor tie the knot to fellow reality star alum, America’s Next Top Model champ Adrianne Curry, didn’t exactly do wonders for his personal life.

While Florence admitted that she offered her advice to Chris and Adrianne before their 2006 marriage, she then sighed, adding, "Maybe [now] I’ll come and counsel the divorce."

Florence Henderson Still a Brady Mom

July 7th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Once a Brady, always a Brady.

Florence Henderson played mom Carol Brady on the hit show from 1969-1974, and lives by that motto 34 years after going off the air.

“They are like my second family, the Brady kids,” Florence tells OK! at the American Women in Radio and Television’s Gracie Awards. “We’ve remained close all these years, and probably always will be close.

How close? The 74-year-old honoree, who has four children of her own with ex-husband Ira Bernstein, still keeps tabs on her on-screen children.

“I just saw Susan Olsen,” she tells OK! “We christened the new Emerald Princess ship. We got to go to Greece. It was very exciting. And I saw Sherwood Schwartz, who created the Brady Bunch, getting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As soon as I get home, I’m having dinner with Eve [Plumb]. We all keep in touch.”

Don’t think the tight-knight relationships formed after the show though. Florence says the gang were hardly separable during the comedy’s run, often going away on vacation together.

“We became a family,” she says. “I loved when we got out of the studio. I loved going to Hawaii and the Grand Canyon and Kings Island. I loved going to work every day and being with a second family.”

Ali Larter, Kelly Rutherford Do Gracies

June 4th, 2008

TV’s most celebrated women turn out for American Women in Radio and Television’s Gracie Awards held at NYC’s Marriott Marquis.

How is Heroes star Ali Larter spending her time in NYC? “I love walking through Washington Square, watching people play chess,” the Jersey girl says. “I love going and sitting and having a Bellini. I love walking the streets. I think it’s the best city in the world.”

Gossip Girl star Kelly Rutherford says gossip serves a purpose.

“I think so much of gossip is affirming that we’re not alone,” the mom of one says. “I think everyone gossips on a certain level. I think gossip has been in fashion forever, and for that reason.”

What advice would she give kids who struggle with rumors?

“Don’t let it affect your view of the world,” Leighton Meester’s costar says. “Know that you will get past school and do great things. It usually means there’s a reason you’re standing out. It usually means you’re special. If people are gossiping about you, it usually means there’s something good going on. Take it as a compliment and run with it.”

E!’s Giuliana Rancic can’t wait to host the event. “I’m inspired to be here with all these strong, incredible women that I wish I was like,” the self-confessed news junkie says. “I can’t believe I’m going to be in a room with all these women. Put Christiane Amanpour in front of me and I’m going to pass out and die. I’m getting nervous just thinking about it. It’s nerve-wracking.”

It turns out Oprah Winfrey is BFF Gayle King’s answer to everything. “When you look at the lists, who would you like to have a lunch with? Who would you like to be stranded on a desert island with? Who would you like to do business with? Who do you most admire? Who is the most powerful? The answer always seems to be one thing, and that would be Oprah. Oprah Winfrey,” Gayle says.

Jill Hennessy
isn’t worried about popping out of her slinky dress even though she’s not wearing double-stick tape.

“I am nursing but I was never that bodacious to begin with,” she says of her Cynthia Rowley number. “Maybe I have the small-chested woman’s mentality where ‘oh that’s not going to happen.’”

Why do she and her hubby make a good couple?

“I don’t know that we do!” she tells me. “We just sort of hang out. We’ve been hanging out for fourteen years now.”

Brady Bunch star Florence Henderson starts out with a compliment. “Ladies, you all look about twelve years old,” the onscreen mom of Maureen “Marcia Brady” McCormick says. She’s thrilled to be in a New York State of mind. “I love New York! Are you kidding? I lived here for years. I started on Broadway, that’s how my career began.”

Suze Orman tells me she won’t help celebs who are in financial trouble.

“When celebrities call me, and they want me to help them, I tell them I’m not their girl,” she tells me. “There’s plenty of people who can help you if you have millions and millions of dollars. But there’s very few people who want to deal with you if you have $50,000 in credit card debt. I focus on those people, and those people only.”

Who are Chelsea Lately host Chelsea Handler’s favorite guests?

She counts out Padma Lakshmi, Jenny McCarthy and Leah Remini as “girls who are outspoken and don’t care what they’re saying.” Get this! “There was one guy – the father from One Tree Hill – I went to say hello to him in the green room, and I was like ‘oh my gosh, who is that guy? Forget about the interview. Let’s go out for dinner.’”

Star Jones, though, makes the opposite list for most annoying. “She doesn’t stop talking and has nothing to say.”

Ouch!
