Julianne Hough Tight-Lipped on Footloose

June 12th, 2009

Julianne Hough is not only a country singer, she’s a dancer, so it’s no surprise she can very deftly side-step any questions about whether or not she’ll be in the remake of classic Footloose. While Julianne remained pretty tight-lipped at the CMA Music Festival, she did throw  OK! a few hints.

"So I can clarify that I can’t say anything?" she told OK! when asked if she’ll be playing Ariel opposite Chace Crawford’s Ren. "I mean, I think it’s out there that I did try out and everything. It’s just really cool to have the opportunity. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I feel blessed that I had the opportunity."

JULIANNE PLAYS BALL:

Julianne’s already got an inside track on becoming reacher’s daughter Ariel – not only is she a fan of the original, starring Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer, she’s played her before.

"It’s awesome. It’s so good. I was a big fan of it from the beginning, even before I’d heard about this," she tells OK! of the original. "It’s funny – my brother [Derek Hough] played Ren on the West End in London at the same time as I played Ariel in high school in Park City, so it’s kind of funny. We love it."

Sounds like she’s a shoo-in!

Chace’s Grueling “Footloose” Trials

May 28th, 2009

It’s good to know that, just because you’re white hot star like Chace Crawford, it doesn’t mean you’re going to get gigs handed to you on a silver platter.

At least, not when it comes to things as serious and important as the remake of Footloose.

Chace Crawford, who scooped up Kevin Bacon’s role from the 1984 original when Zac Efron dropped out, has revealed that he went through a grueling audition process before being given the part.

“It was, like, five hours of the most rigorous tests ever,” the Gossip Girl star told EW.

But, he added, “I walked out very confident.”

And rightly so, according to producer, Craig Zadan. “At the end of it, we all sort of looked at each other and said, ‘He’s the guy!’,” Zadan, who also produced the original, gushed to the site.

Hayden Panettiere to Get Footloose

April 30th, 2009

Sure, she’s indestructable on Heroes, but does Hayden Panettiere have the singing and dancing super powers needed to land herself a part in the upcoming remake of Footloose?

According to report on Eonline.com, the teen TV star has thrown her name into the hat of hopefuls by auditioning for a part in the film — an update of the 1980s classic that made Kevin Bacon a household name and which was turned into a Broadway hit in recent years.

The story claims that Hayden recently showed off her vocal talents for the producers. "They were really impressed," E! quotes a source as saying. "No one realized what a good singer she is."

Gossip Girl hunk Chace Crawford is reportedly lined up to star in the lead role of big-city kid Ren who stirs things up with his hip-shaking moves in a strict small town. The part had originally been slated for Zac Efron,

Gossip Threatening Footloose Remake?

April 20th, 2009

Chace Crawford is said to be in final negotiations for the leading role in the Footloose movie remake. There’s just one problem: his hit CW show, Gossip Girl, may get in the way.

According to E!’s Mark Malkin, the latest negotiations have gotten down to the nitty gritty of scheduling. Crawford is reportedly intent on starring in the movie, but his TV show’s schedule has become a giant road block.

"There’s a big overlap of when he’d have to shoot Footloose and the next season of Gossip Girl," a source said.

And Gossip Girl producers haven’t been able to rejigger Crawford’s shooting schedule to accommodate Footloose. "Chace may be hiring a big-league attorney to come in and figure out how to make it work," the source said.

The role was originally turned down by fellow heartthrob, Zac Efron, who has chosen to work on less music-centered projects.

Zac Efron Cuts Footloose

March 23rd, 2009

Zac Efron must have had his fill of musicals – despite earlier reports that the hot High School Musical star would be putting on Kevin Bacon’s sneakers for a remake of Footloose, that plan has apparentl been scrapped.

The Wrap reports that Zac told he studio last week he’s done with musicals, and that he had script approval on the movie, and used a rewrite as a loophole to get out of his contract.

“People had been working on this project since last July — we were all shocked," a senior member of the production team tells the site.”

In a statement, Paramount says: "Footloose is a project we’ve longed to see re-booted for a new generation. While Zac is no longer attached, we remain excited and committed to the collective brain trust of Kenny Ortega, Neil Meron and Craig Zaden, who will reinvigorate the franchise. Their fresh take on the film will undoubtedly be filled with the same kind of breakout performances that we’ve come to expect from them.”

Zac Efron Looking to Switch to the Dark Side

August 4th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Seems like High School Musical star, Zac Efron, 20, is tired of his squeaky-clean image.

Sunday night at the Teen Choice Awards, which he attended with High School Musical co-star and girlfriend, Vanessa Hudgens, 20, he told OK!, "I’m looking for something new and exciting to do. I want to do something dark or a comedy. There’s tons of icons that I would love to work with on something new and exciting."

Doesn’t seem like he is headed towards a dark character yet, as Paramount Pictures announced last year that Efron would be starring the lead role in the remake of Footloose.

So far in Zac’s career, he has been the go-to guy for musicals, High School Musical, High School Musical 2, High School Musical: Senior Year, and Hairspray.
