JT Will Never Be Unemployed

June 11th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Justin Timberlake doesn’t seem to need any help when it comes to his career, but if he ever needs a fall back, the folks at Saturday Night Live say they’ll give him a shot!

“If his music career goes into the crapper, we will definitely get him an audition,” SNL’s Jason Sudeikis tells OK!. “No freebies, everybody had to audition. He may choke in the audition process.”

Justin, 28, who’s been one of the show’s most popular hosts – especially with his memorable music video collaborations “Dick In A Box” and “Mother Lover” with SNL’s Andy Samberg, has impressed some of the show’s biggest stars.

“He’s got the chops!” SNL regular Fred Armisen tells OK!.

The singer also made an impression on creator Lorne Michaels.

“I think he’s great at it,” says Lorne, who admits there’s one thing standing in the way from asking Justin to make comedy a fulltime gig. “I don’t think he could afford to be a regular!”

How Can SNL Outdo Itself Next Season?

May 21st, 2009

Between Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin impersonations and Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg’s collaborations, this season’s Saturday Night Live will be hard to top. Saturday marks the first weekend of the show’s off-season and three month hiatus, leaving fans wondering, “ What could they possibly come up with next season?"

“We’re going to get Jesus to host,” SNL actor Jason Sudeikis told OK! at the Peabody Awards in NYC May 18. “That’d be neat, right?”

While having God host the show might be well, impossible, even creator Lorne Michaels is out of ideas on what or who to bring back.

“Nothing so far,” he says. “But summer’s just beginning so we’ll go look at new people and anybody we get excited about we’ll bring back.”

If after summer Lorne’s still out of ideas, SNL vet Fred Armisen’s got some suggestion on his favorite skits.

“I love Bill Hader doing Vincent Price, I could watch that all day,” says Fred, whose New York Governor Paterson and Barack Obama impersonations became YouTube sensations. “I like other people’s [skits] more than mine.”

While playing the most powerful man in the world might seem intimidating, Fred said there was no time for butterflies when he found out he had the role.

“It happened so fast there was no time to be nervous,” he tells OK!. “[To practice] I make recordings of myself and play them back.”

So will he reprise his role as the Commander in Chief next season?

“We’ll see,” Fred says with a smile.

Last Saturday’s finale was one for the record books with guests including Anne Hathaway, Tom Hanks, Elisabeth Moss, Paul Rudd and SNL alum Will Ferrell, who gave the audience a treat when he joined Green Day on stage after the show wrapped and reprised his famous Oyster Cult skit by playing a cowbell with the band,  something viewers at home didn’t get to see.

“It was great,” SNL star/writer Seth Meyers tells OK!. “To watch Green Day and watch Will Ferrell with the cowbell, you can’t lose.”

While the hit finale only intensified the anticipation for next season, viewers aren’t the only ones who will be counting down till the fall.

“It is strange especially the end of a season like this, just to realize we’re not going to go in Monday and pitch ideas,” Seth says. “I’ve yet to cry at a finale but it’s always really emotional.”

And as for God making a cameo at the premiere?

“We may be just on the brink of Armageddon if that were to happen,” admits Jason. “That’s just a rumor, we’ll see.”

John McCain Ruffles During Time 100 Gala

May 18th, 2008

George Clooney is off the list as soon as I arrive at the Time 100 Gala held at Frederick P. Rose Hall in NYC. Bomb-sniffing dogs and security frisks are in order because Republican presidential candidate John McCain is on his way. Mariah Carey’s a question mark, reps say. Hmm. Word arrives she won’t be here until 9:45 … and they’re kicking us out at 8:30.

We set up shop next to the Time For Kids reporter, who is 11. (Red carpet reporters love the kids because everyone will stop for them.)

Robert Downey Jr. strides in with his dad, Robert Downey. They’re laughing and back-patting on their way into the soiree. Tina Fey waves. Here’s Ethan Hawke — with his hair slicked back. Who is he most excited to meet tonight? “Everybody!” he says. “I am.”

As SNL star Casey Wilson flirts with Fred Armisen, Amy Poehler shakes hands. “It’s an absolute pleasure,” she says. Seth Meyers says he’s not doing interviews, but answers lots of shout-outs. “I’ll tell you all about Amy’s pregnancy,” he laughs.

Here’s Republican presidential candidate John McCain, who is eager to meet Lance Armstrong. The Time For Kids reporter asks: What would he do to make the United States better for kids?

“I would devote myself to making sure that every young person in America has an affordable and available education, and an opportunity in this nation to go as far as their ambitions will carry them,” he says. “Thank you for your hard work, and be careful of some of these people around here. They’re not good influences.”

WHAT?! Is John McCain dissing journalists?! Sure, you have to be careful but whoa … you have to be careful not to offend the people you’re courting.

Speaking of scandal, Matt Lauer is no stranger to it with his legendary Tom Cruise interview. How does he feel about T.C.’s apology?

“I didn’t really see it,” he says. “I was traveling. I didn’t see the interview. Somebody told me about a little bit of a snippet. I don’t think he needs to apologize. I don’t feel there are any hard feelings. It was an interview. It was a good moment on television. The door’s open. I hope he comes back to see us.”

And, one thing that’s gone sour during these times is the economy. Is Suze Orman cutting back during the recession?

“No, but I’ve never been extravagant to begin with,” she says. “My rule of thumb is ‘the more money you make doesn’t mean the more money you spend.’ I don’t have a lot to cut back on. My main extravagance is flying private, but I do that because otherwise it wouldn’t be possible to keep up the schedule that I do. When I’m not working, I fly Jet Blue. And that’s true.’

We’re out.

Tina, Amy Create ‘Baby Mama’ Drama

May 1st, 2008

Amy Poehler says she’s tired of people asking her if she’s having children at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of her comedy Baby Mama. Who can blame her? Despite answering the same question over and over and over again, the actress married to Will Arnett refuses to go on record and say she doesn’t like children. Why?

Just a few days later she confirms that she and her hubby of four years are indeed expecting a bundle of joy.

Gentle Amy becomes the 1,000th celebrity to rub the belly of my pregnant reporter pal. “Ah! I bet you’re getting a lot of this,” Amy says. (Um, yeah.) “I know it’s harder when you can’t take it off, but you get a lot of people giving you seats on the subway. It’s great.”

Who would Amy pick to be her baby mama?

Dax Shepard because of his instincts,” she says.

Will says, “We’re going to have a baby, yeah,” just as Dax Shepard riffs “We’re going to borrow a baby.” Best part of working with Tina Fey? “Well, oh my God, look who’s here,” Dax says as his gal pal Kristen Bell strides through.

Brian Williams is smacking his gum as Chevy Chase, accompanied by daughter Katie, pitches a show to VH1. “I’d like to see the CBS evening news on VH1,” he says. Christine Lahti says her nickname is “Jolly Green Giant,” and of his moniker, Rider Strong admits “I didn’t realize it was a porn name until I was fifteen.”

Tina runs up to give racing star Danica Patrick a hug. “This is my first time at Tribeca Film Festival,” Danica tells me. “I have a hard time getting out to see movies.”

What brings 30 Rock star Judah Friedlander out tonight?

Tina’s my boss, so I figured I’d better show up,” he tells me.

Lorne Michaels speculates there may be a sequel to Baby Mama. “Tina and Amy are very funny together,” he says.

Flirty Fred Armisen gets my attention. “You’re totally bored,” the SNL star tells me as he’s being interviewed by VH1. “I’m sorry for making fun of you.”

Baby Mama is out now.
