Countdown: OK!’s Hottest Vampire Couples

February 26th, 2009

Blame it on Béla Lugosi, Bram Stoker, Anne Rice… the list of those who have brought sex appeal to the undead has captivated readers and movie audiences for centuries — especially when it comes to the undeniable attraction between the bloodthirsty vamp and his mortal victim!

OK! decided to put together some of our favorite vampire couples through the years. Call it our "sexiest couples" list with a biting twist!

#1:
Who can deny the sexual heat between True Blood’s Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer)? The brooding centuries-old Bill falls for the naive and virginal waitress, Sookie, and to say that sparks fly — well, take a look for yourself!

#2
The next hot vampire couple is a blast from the past. David Boreanaz made the undead cool–even something to be desired as the hunky and tortured vampire Angel on t.v.’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Even Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) herself couldn’t help falling in love with this bloodsucker with a debonair flair, spiking the show’s ratings and even landing David with his own Vampy spinoff, Angel.

#3
Next on our list, a recent favorite, the gorgeous Edward Cullen and Bella Swan from Twilight! Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart take teen angst to a whole new level as Edward (a century-old vampire trapped in a 17-year-old heartthrob’s body) can’t decide whether he wants to kill or marry his mortal obsession, Bella. Guess we’ll just have to wait for the sequel, New Moon!

#4
Bram Stoker’s Dracula enchanted movie audiences with its haunting love story between a crusades fighter who sells his soul to the devil after losing his beloved queen. Centuries later, the count, now the immortal Dracula (Gary Oldman) thinks he’s found his dead queen reincarnated in a 19th century girl, Mena (Winona Ryder) and he will stop at nothing to get her back.

#5
Next on our list: the infamous pairing of Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise as lonely bloodsuckers in Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire. While technically both leading men play vamps, Cruise’s Lestat first sees a human Louis (Pitt) and becomes obsessed with him, later deciding to make him his immortal life partner.

#6
Who could forget the ’80s cult classic, The Lost Boys? When Michael (Jason Patric) and his brother move to a new town, he falls for the beautiful Star (Jami Gertz). But what he doesn’t know is that she has a terrible secret and an even darker group of friends who prey on the living!

#7
Aaliyah
wowed critics and audiences with her disturbing portrayal as Queen Akasha, a powerful vampire with the ability to seduce–and seduce she does in Queen of the Damned, luring the young, just turned vampire Lestat to be her King.

In Underworld, Kate Beckinsale plays Selene, a sexy vampire warrior entrenched in a war between the vampire and werewolf races. She ends up falling for Michael (Scott Speedman), a werewolf who longs for the war to end.

#9
In 1983’s The Hunger, a young Susan Sarandon falls prey to the worldly wiles of vampire couple David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve. And when Bowie’s bloodsucker falls apart (literally), the path is clear for Susan and Catherine do more than a little bit of nocturnal canoodling.

Gary Oldman Ties the Knot!

January 5th, 2009

Could the fourth time be the charm for Gary Oldman?

The 50-year-old Harry Potter actor, whose second wife was Uma Thurman, has tied the knot  in a secret ceremony with his girlfriend Alexandra Edenborough, 31, according to The Daily Mail’s Richard Kay.

Yes, they were married in Santa Barbara,’ the actor’s agent Douglas Urbanski says, adding: ‘I was best man.’

The twosome set tongues a’waggin’ after their appearance at the L.A. premiere of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button a few weeks ago.

Gary has three sons from previous marriaages to Lesley Manville and Donya Fiorentino.

Stars Descend On ‘Dark Knight’ Premiere

July 17th, 2008

Heath Ledger is the star of the Dark Knight premiere, even though he cannot be present at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square event.

Though his life was cut short in January, Heath’s memory lives on. Attendees including Ethan Hawke, dashing through in a brown-and-white baseball cap and beige suit; Josh Hartnett, who twirls through in a brown cap; and Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick, who is dressing his curly hair with a side part, pay tribute.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is in the movie, has no time for print, which is also what happened with Heath at his last premiere for I’m Not There – and at 2005’s Casanova. (I was fortunate enough to spend time with him at The Regency Hotel during the I’m Not There press day. He seemed like a great guy – totally dateable.)

It’s no wonder he was a hit with the ladies. In November 2005, he and then-girlfriend Michelle Williams stepped out for the Gotham Awards. According to my file, “They were giving each other goo-goo eyes as he cradled her during TV interviews.”

Sadly, we must move forward without his towering presence.

Christian Bale, who plays Batman, shares a story about Heath playing The Joker.

“He did a fantastic job,” Christian says. “He enjoyed playing the part immensely and I was glad I got to experience working with him and watching him develop into character. Personally I enjoy anybody who immerses themselves to such an incredible degree. I enjoy that too. I recognize how ridiculous it is, and I find it incredibly funny. To be honest, the more serious people get with any role, the more humor I find in it. I find that with Heath.”

According to co-star Aaron Eckhart, Heath was a doting dad to Matilda, 2.

“Everybody on this movie had kids. Maggie, Christian … in the trailer, it was all kids talk. I’m the only one who didn’t have a kid. Heath had just had a baby, Maggie just had a baby, Christian has two kids, Gary Oldman had two kids. It was a lot of baby pictures and a lot of baby talk. That was mostly what was going on. I met Maggie’s, I met Christian’s, I didn’t meet Heath’s but it was a lot of pictures.”

Michael Caine calls Heath “very ordinary. He was a very quiet man, and very, very nice.”

He says, “I worked with Heath very early on. I’d seen his performance. We just sat there talking. He was very ordinary. He wasn’t preparing – you know – like ‘please leave me, I’ve got to be with my script.’ Some actors do that. We’re just talking, and the director said ‘OK we’re ready,’ and Heath goes into the elevator and he has to come out of the elevator and into a party and take over. Batman and I are giving a party.  Out came this guy, The Joker, and I stood there absolutely stunned. I didn’t have any dialogue or I would’ve forgotten it. He went straight past me and over to Batman. I just sat there flabbergasted. Right through it we just talked, and he would do it over and over again – just come out with this energy.”

He adds, “I said to him one day ‘Jesus, I’m too old to do anything as energetic as this.’ And I said ‘wait a minute, I couldn’t have done anything as energetic as this when I was your age.’ It’s astonishing.”

Heath surely would’ve delighted in the Batmobile staged outside on the black carpet, and the motorcycle prop used in the movie that greets partygoers on the way into the screening.

The Dark Knight is in theaters Friday.

Gary Oldman: Heath Really Was a Joker

July 16th, 2008

Add Gary Oldman to the list of people who think Heath Ledger will earn an Oscar nomination for his transformative role as The Joker in The Dark Knight.

"I think he will get a posthumous Oscar nomination, and he could win it," the actor tells Parade.com. "It’s as good a performance as anyone out there has turned in. He was brilliant."

While the late star completely immersed himself into the grisly role, don’t think the method actor in him stayed in character when "cut" was called. In fact, Gary says, it was Christian Bale who was the resident dark brooder on set.

"Christian Bale is darker than Heath," he says. "I know that sounds kind of weird but Christian very much keeps to himself. He’s sort of quietly intense. My experience with Heath was very different. Between takes, he very much wanted to laugh and kid around."

The 50-year-old admits stories of Heath as the set joker (no pun intended) is "not what people expect to hear," as many think the dark role as a cause for the Aussie’s Jan. 22 death, but just like Christian, Gary thinks conspiracy theorists are "probably looking for a darker story."

He continues, "You know, like he was so contaminated by playing The Joker that he couldn’t sleep and all that stuff. But I didn’t see any of that."
