Lindsay Calls Obama “First Colored President”

November 12th, 2008

At some point, you’ve just got to wonder if Lindsay Lohan does it on purpose. In a new interview with Access Hollywood, the actress uses a derogatory term for President-Elect Barack Obama, referring to him as "colored."

"It’s an amazing feeling. It’s our first, you know, colored president," the 22-year-old said in response to a question about her reaction to Obama’s win.

Lohan, who’s in the spotlight these days more for her relationships and brushes with the law than her film work, taped the interview amid rumors of recent trouble on the Ugly Betty set and a sit-down with Harpers Bazaar Magazine where she denies being a lesbian but admits to being in love with her female partner of several months, Samantha Ronson.

Melissa Etheridge Talks Prop 8

November 6th, 2008

Following California’s controversial passing of Proposition 8 to ban gay marriage, voters—including many celebrities—are speaking out against the measure.

In an interview with Momlogic.com, Grammy-winning singer Melissa Etheridge said that while she was disappointed in the voting results, she has no plans to leave California.

"Today the gay citizenry of this state will pick themselves up and dust themselves off and do what we have been doing for years. We will get back into it. We love this state, we love this country and we are not going to leave it," Etheridge said. "Even though we could be married in Massachussetts or Conneticut, Holland, Spain and a handful of other countries, this is our home. This is where we work and play and raise our families. We will not rest until we have the full right of any other citizen. It is that simple, no fearful vote will ever stop us. That is not the American way."

Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres–who released an ad during the campaign asking voters to say no to Prop 8– has also spoken up.

In a statement, the talk show host had this to say:

"Watching the returns on election night was an amazing experience. Barack Obama is our new president. Change is here. I, like millions of Americans, felt like we had taken a giant step towards equality. We were watching history. This morning, when it was clear that Proposition 8 had passed in California, I can’t explain the feeling I had. I was saddened beyond belief. Here we just had a giant step towards equality and then on the very next day, we took a giant step away."

Ellen continues, "I believe one day a ban on gay marriage will sound totally ridiculous. In the meantime, I will continue to speak out for equality for all of us."

Ellen Talks Breast Cancer

October 2nd, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Ellen DeGeneres has a lot to be happy about.  She has a hit talk show and is newly married to the beautiful Portia de Rossi.

But life wasn’t always happy-go-lucky for the comedienne. When Ellen was 16, her mother, Betty, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

"It was a bad time," Ellen, now 50, tells OK!. "She went in because she had a lump, and she woke up and her breast was gone.  Now it may have been handled differently.  She’s doing fine 30 years later, but she had a mastectomy.  It’s devastating to see your mom go through something like this."

Ellen says her mother’s fight inspired her to live a healthier life. She and Portia are both vegans and Ellen is integrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month into her daily talk show.

"I think anything is possible," she tells OK!. "I believe in faith, and I think we have to find a cure and a cause.  We need to start looking at what’s in our food and our environment."

She continues, "I have this amazing opportunity to reach a lot of people and shine a light on certain things that need attention."

Ellen’s cause is backed by her legal other half, Portia de Rossi. Of being a newlywed, Ellen says, "Marriage is the greatest.  I had no idea it would feel so different.  You can have a commitment and say, ‘This is it’, but there’s just something about being married…I just feel like I’m home.  I’m so happy and more in love.  It’s great."

Brad Donates Money for Gay Marriage

September 17th, 2008

Brad Pitt is putting his money to yet another good cause.  On Wednesday, the actor donated $100,000 towards fighting California’s November ballot initiative that would overturn the state Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage.

"Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn’t harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8," Pitt said.

The actor’s political and philanthropic advisor, Trevor Neilson, told the AP that Brad was surprised his peers in the entertainment industry had not donated more money to support the battle against Prop. 8

Earlier this week, both Pitt and girlfriend Angelina Jolie announced they donated $2 million to fight HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis in Ethiopia.

Neil Patrick Harris: Not Getting Married

July 23rd, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

While Ellen DeGeneres and her girlfriend Portia De Rossi are making wedding plans, another famous out of the closet star, Neil Patrick Harris, is on the fence about tying the knot himself.

When it comes to gay marriage in California, Neil told OK!, "Oh I’m all for it! Big fan!"

But when asked if he saw himself as a married man, he said, "I don’t know. If I did, no one would know about it ’til after I got married."

Hmm, is that a hint?  Neil,35, has been in a long term relationship with Broadway actor David Burtka,33.  In 2006, the How I Met Your Mother star told fans, "I am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest."

Neil has also told OK! that he’d love to have children one day.  "I think I’d make a good dad," he recently said.

So, maybe there will be kids in the near future for Neil but as of now there will be no wedding bells… yet!

Ellen Confirms Plans to Marry

May 16th, 2008

Talk about a happy TGIF for Ellen Degeneres, who has indeed confirmed her plan to marry her long time partner Portia de Rossi.

"I am announcng I am getting married," Ellen,50, told her audience during Thursday’s taping of The Ellen Degeneres Show (which airs today).

Amidst wild cheers and a standing ovation, the talk show host joked, "Thank you. I’ll tell you who the lucky guy is soon!"

Degeneres did not mention de Rossi,35, by name in her announcement, however the camera cut to the former Ally McBeal star in the audience, clapping and smiling.

"It is something of course that we have wanted to do and we wanted to be legal, and we are just very, very excited," Degeneres said.

Ellen’s announcement came at the heels of a California Supreme Court ruling on Thursday, overturning a state ban on gay marriage, deeming it unconstitutional.

Degeneres and De Rossi have been a couple for four years and have been open with their relationship, appearing on red carpets together at Hollywood events.
