Britney Talks!

October 31st, 2007

Britney Spears got on the phone today and talked with Ryan Seacrest on his morning show. When asked how she spent her album release day she said, “It was cool. It was laidback really. We watched movies. That’s about it. We had fried chicken.”

Though bffs Alli Simms and a male friend were also on the phone, nobody could remember what movies were watched. Ryan tried to delve deeper into the mind of Britney. He asked what it’s like to have her life constantly scrutinized. “I try not to let it get to me,” she said, “People talk. You try to keep doing what you do as long as you know what’s up and you know what’s true then that’s all that matters.”

And he further prodded, wondering if the bad mom allegations bugged her. She kept the answer the same saying, “People say what they want and do what they do. It’s sad how cruel the world can be. At the end of the day you have to know in your heart you’re doing the best that you can.”

As far as being a good mom, Britney thinks she’s doing just fine. Yet she wasn’t sure how often she’d be seeing her kids citing that her lawyers knew all that.

She admitted this is her big promotion for her new album, Blackout. And told the world what her favorite song is, “Oh god… ‘Heaven on earth.’”

It seems Britney, who left the interview early to shower Alli told everyone, is living her version of “Heaven on Earth.”

Will Britney’s Album Sell?

October 29th, 2007 / Author: OK! Staff

Tuesday marks the release date of Britney Spears’ much-anticipated new album, Blackout. With a hit single “Gimme More,” OK! wonders if the album can also be a hit. Recently we spoke to Fuse VJ Steven Smith, who had a lot of good things to say about it. “On this album, she’s embracing the dance way more. It has some straight-up dance club anthems.”

Though he’s quick to point out one thing, “This is an evolution, by no means is it a comeback.”

Some of the record’s standout songs include “Heaven and Hell” and “Piece of Me.” “’Heaven and Hell’ is a full-on dance anthem,” Steven said, “’Piece of Me’ addresses the paparazzi and what people say. It’s more personal than a lot of her other songs and apparently it took some convincing for her to do that.”

In Steven’s opinion Blackout will be a hit. “She’s not coming back because she’s stayed in the limelight. The album follows the trends now — more dance, more electronic, more beats, more grooves.”

Guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Keri Hilson: ‘Gimme More’ is My Song!

October 2nd, 2007

Britney Spears’ personal life may be in shambles, but there’s still some good news in her professional one — her single “Gimme More” is still burning up the airwaves and is seemingly fixed in its No. 1 position on the iTunes charts. But just who is responsible for this hit ditty?

Keri Hilson, that’s who.

Danja produced the song and I just started singing, ‘Give me, Give me,’ and added a little more in and just having fun and messing around really,” Keri tells OK!. “That’s how everything is. I wrote ‘Gimme More’ with Britney in mind. At this point in my career I am usually in the studio when usually they’re there or sometimes not there, the session is booked, but I definitely have them in mind.”

Like with many of Britney’s biggest hits, the woeful pop star did not put pen to paper for “Gimme More,” leaving the honor to more established songwriters, such as Keri herself. As part of The Clutch, Keri has penned many of today’s hits, collaborating with heavyweights like Timbaland and Justin Timberlake. The 24-year-old wrote not one, but four tunes on Britney’s forthcoming album, dropping Nov. 13, and tells OK! the songs are older than you think.

Although the fallen pop princess was spotted traveling to and from recording studios in the spring, Keri reveals that the 25-year-old actually recorded the tune more than a year ago when she was seven-months pregnant with Jayden. But ever the workaholic — despite the contrary at last month’s Video Music Awards — Brit didn’t let a third trimester pregnancy slow her down — or a birth, for that matter.

“She was so focused,” Keri says. “She gave 150 percent. She had already been recording throughout her pregnancy. We started in Vegas and continued in L.A. and worked at her house. When we worked at her house [she gave birth to Jayden] and it was only three weeks after the baby was born. I mean focused? I don’t know any other mother that would do that.”

However, suffice it to say, a lot has changed since those days. Britney and Keri, who also wrote “The Perfect Lover,” “Out of This World” and “Break the Ice” for the singer, have lost contact and haven’t had a chance to chat about their iTunes triumph.

With their dressing rooms across the hall from each other’s at the VMAs, Keri had hoped to catch up with the mother of two “but I think she just kind of disappeared.”

But the songwriter harbors no ill will against Britney and only wishes her the best. “I’m proud of it, and I would love for people to just leave her alone. She’s going through a lot. This is Britney dealing with life, with real life. Those kids are her whole life.”

OK! Exclusive: Britney’s Secret VMA Tape

September 17th, 2007

Following Britney Spears disastrous VMA performance, many fans wondered why the pop star would have decided to go on stage in front of millions in the first place. Didn’t she know how bad it was going to be? Well, OK! has learned that Brit was kept completely in the dark about how potentially embarrassing the show would be.

"The rehearsal was taped and given to her people to review," one production insider reveals to OK!. "But we weren’t allowed to let Brit know that the tape even existed because her management was convinced that she’d never go through with it if she saw herself."

The ironic thing is, according to the source, that the rehearsal tape was nowhere near as horrifying as what ultimately aired on MTV. "The practice wasn’t horrible; just low energy," the insider recalls to OK!. "I think everyone figured she was saving herself for the real deal and was going to step up to the plate and give a great performance."

Meanwhile, the song that played while Britney loped lazily around the VMA stage, "Gimme More," has reportedly seen a severe downturn in its radio airplay since the "It’s Britney Bitch" heard-round-the-world.

Extra Offers Second Chance to Britney

September 10th, 2007

After last night’s disastrous VMA performance, the folks over at Extra want Britney Spears to give performing her new single “Gimme More” another try.

The show says they will open their studio stage up to her so that she can try to prove to everyone she is ready for her comeback.

Still no word on whether Britney will take them up on the offer.

Fans, Critics React to Britney’s New Single

August 31st, 2007

So… Did she do it again?

Britney Spears
‘ new single "Gimme More" from her much-anticipated fifth studio album hit airwaves Thursday night and is fast climbing the charts. Another song, "Cold as Fire," has also leaked, and fans and critics alike are aren’t shy with their opinions.

"I feel sorry for the state of the music industry if this is what’s supposed to be good right now," writes one listener. "Groundbreaking my ass! We are talking about a major disaster here. This song is not catchy at all," writes another. But the criticisms are few and far between.

On the other side of the spectrum, it seems like people really do want more. Called "a masterpiece" by one person and made into a ringtone by another, "Gimme More" has impressed even the die-hard Britney fans who were expecting much worse. "The bitch has got like nine lives," one fan writes.

One music industry insider feels the same way, prefacing that while the tunes are not her best, they’re surely not her worst either. "It’s a step in hopefully the right direction," he tells OK! "With a little more push, and a little bit more production work, we could have her back."

But for the embattled pop star’s comeback to be in full-swing, Britney’s got to reprioritize because "if she focuses on what made her a celebrity in the first place and gets a good team of producers and managers behind her, I think think she has some good albums left in her."

Britney’s as-yet-untitled new album is slated for a Nov. 13. Also scheduled is an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 9, where it is believed she would perform the techno diddy for the first time. But the million-dollar question is, will she show up? "I want to say she’ll perform because I’m really curious as to what she’ll do," the insider says. "But taking a look at her past behavior, I’m not getting my hopes up."
