Cover Story: Matilda’s Life Without Daddy

January 14th, 2009

The morning of Dec. 21, Michelle Williams, 28, and her 3-year-old daughter Matilda Rose, left their moss-green Brooklyn row house for the pink-toned Dashing Diva nail salon. Exuberantly, Matilda raced ahead of her mom, bounding through the snow that cloaked their Boerum Hill neighborhood. The pair enjoyed matching mani-pedis in time for the holidays.

"Matilda’s a really upbeat kid who giggles all the time," Michelle’s long-time friend tells OK!. "That’s the one thing Michelle says will make her smile no matter what — hearing her daughter laugh."

But nearly one year ago on Jan. 22, there were only tears, as police carried the lifeless body of Heath Ledger, William’s former fiance and Matilda’s daddy, from a SoHo loft. The actor, 28, was the victim of an accidental overdose from prescription medications.

Heath delighted in his daughter Matilda, who inherited her father’s penetrating gaze and dark eyes, and whose name he had tattooed on his stomach.

"Matilda never really understood what happened when he died," a friend tells OK!. "It was heartbreaking when she asked for daddy and Michelle had to explain that he wasn’t coming back."

Now, one year later, Michelle is still trying to find happiness for herself and Matilda. She is steadily working and has begun a quiet romance with film director Spike Jonze.

"Things are getting easier, little by little, day by day," her friends tell OK!. "Slowly she’s come back from the shock and heartbreak."

Trouble in Paradise for Drew & Cameron?

January 13th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Sunday night’s Golden Globes CAA after party at the Sunset Tower Hotel was a ‘who’s who’ of A-list stars. But for former BFFs, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz, the night was anything but starry.

Diaz and Barrymore both arrived at the Globes bash held inside the hotel’s swanky bar/restaurant but ignored each other all night long. For two friends once attached at the hip, insiders say the tension wasn’t hard to spot.

"Both Cameron and Drew were at the party but neither one spoke to each other!" a fellow party goer tells OK!.  "They were on opposite sides of the room the entire night."

Has Cameron ditched her friends for her man? Cam and Drew, who became best friends while filming Charlie’s Angels, were once each other’s sidekicks, accompanying each other out to clubs and parties. But now that Cameron has been seriously dating model Paul Sculfor, she’s rarely seen without him.

An eyewitness tells OK! that "At one point, Leonardo DiCaprio saw Cameron coming towards him and he immediately made a U-turn and walked in the opposite direction."

Looks like lines are being drawn!

Party Hopping with Brad & Angelina!

January 12th, 2009

At Paramount’s Golden Globes bash held at Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont on Jan. 10, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie proved they aren’t above improvising. Arriving shortly after 8 p.m., the pair made the rounds through the hotel’s private courtyard, greeting fellow party guests Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert Downey Jr.

"Brad was really happy — totally being his mellow, low-key self," a fellow party goer tells OK!. "People kept coming up to him, trying to talk business, and Brad was like, ‘Nah, man. Not now. This is a party.’"

Drinking a Heineken beer out of a bottle, Pitt chatted with party host Brad Grey, who invited him and Angie to join him in the courtyard’s VIP section. But getting there proved more difficult than the parents of six anticipated!

"Brad Grey motioned for Brad and Angelina to cut through some hedges to get to the VIP," the insider tells OK!. "Brad was game but Angelina looked a little tentative — she was after all, wearing heels and a nice dress!"

But, outnumbered as she was, Angie eventually gave in and followed Pitt and Grey through the bushes.

"Brad had his Heineken in one hand, and Angelina’s hand in his other and said, ‘C’mon babe — you can do this!’" the source tells OK!. "And he led her through the hedges to the VIP. It wasn’t like Angelina was worried about ruining her dress, she just had a look on her face like, ‘Are we supposed to be doing this?’"

The next night, following the awards ceremony, Brad and Angie joined most of Hollywood’s A-listers at the Sunset Tower Hotel, where onlookers tells OK! the pair stole the show, sneaking some very public smooches.

"She’d give him a kiss, he’d caress her back. There was a lot of PDA going on," an eyewitness tells OK!. "Neither one of them looked too upset about not winning — they spent the whole evening exchanging loving looks and holding hands. It was really cute!"

At 10 p.m., the couple finally took a time-out from their nuzzling to share a chocolate molten cake.

Ah, amore!

Megan Fox: “I’m a Tranny!”

January 12th, 2009

Megan Fox is probably one of young Hollywood’s most beautiful actresses–and yet she’s the only one who doesn’t seem to know it.

"I’m a tranny. I’m a man," Fox joked to E!’s Giulianna Rancic on the red carpet of Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards. "I’m painfully insecure, like I’m on the verge of vomiting right now, I’m so horrified that I’m here, and embarrassed, I’m scared."

The Transformers star didn’t stop there! Fox, 22, kept watching the monitor on the red carpet and admired more than a few of her favorite actresses.

"I love that you’re looking at Salma Hayek," Rancic told the actress, who replied, "I want her boobs! Those are the most amazing boobs. Perfect."

Noticeably absent from Fox’s side was her long time beau, Brian Austin Green.

"He doesn’t want to be here," she explained. "You know, he doesn’t want to be my date. He’s a man. He has an ego."

This was Megan’s first trip to the Golden Globes and, when asked about her diet regime in preparation for the big night, she held nothing back.

"Well, I do have a 22 inch waist, I will say that.  But, I basically starve myself for a month.  I’m kidding, I did a lot of pilates.  An immense amount of pilates."

Gotta love the honesty!

Mariska Hargitay Suffers Collapsed Lung

January 12th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Mariska Hargitay was absent from Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards and now we know why. Access Hollywood has confirmed that the Law & Order: SVU star is suffering from pneumothorax, or a partially collapsed lung.

"Mariska Hargitay has been sidelined with pneumothorax," the actress’s rep told Access, adding that "she will appear in all episodes for the rest of the season of Law & Order: SVU."

Pneumothorax can occur as a result of a chest injury including a puncture wound or broken rib but can also happen without these things. There’s no word on how the actress developed her case. Treatment includes oxygen and observation and surgery in some serious cases.

Hargitay was one of several nominated actors at last night’s Globes ceremony–including Milk’s Sean Penn and James Franco–who did not attend.

Katie Catches a Plane to Tom’s Side

January 12th, 2009

Although Katie Holmes couldn’t be with her hubby Tom Cruise at last night’s Golden Globes (he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Tropic Thunder), she made sure she at least caught the after-party!

As soon as the final curtain call for her Broadway show All My Sons was over, Katie grabbed a flight to L.A. to be by her man’s side for the swanky CAA party at the Sunset Tower Hotel, E! News reports.

Katie arrived at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre before the play with her car already loaded up with bags and the things that her daughter Suri needs for traveling.

Then, as soon as the house lights went up, Katie quickly said her goodbyes to her castmates and just 30 minutes or so after her final scene, she left the stage door for the last time.

Katie and Suri were whisked away to a helicopter waiting by New York’s West Side Highway to take her to a private jet at Teterboro airport in New Jersey, arriving shortly after 6pm.

Katie didn’t miss out on celebrations after the last night. Instead the cast and had a dinner together at a restaurant the night before their final performance.

So while many of the other people in her play went home, Katie joined other celebs at the star-studded L.A. bash included Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Colin Farrell, Tom Hanks, Leo DiCaprio, and Eva Longoria Parker, just to name a few.

Now that Kate’s turn on Broadway is over, E! reports that she and daughter Suri will be by Tom’s side for his international promotional tour for Valkyrie.

Just another happy, jet-setting, super famous family!

Seacrest Snubbed by Brangelina at Globes?

January 12th, 2009

While Ryan Seacrest may be one of the hardest working men in Hollywood – he interviews, produces, hosts American Idol and more – he’s apparently not that popular with one power couple in particular: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

As Perez Hilton points out, Ryan attempted to get an interview in last night with the Jolie-Pitts on-air for E! during the Golden Globes, even dashing backstage after they’d walked past. However, the beautiful duo simply turned their backs and pretended not to see the gregarious guy.

Perez chatted with Ryan this morning, who joked about the alleged snub and said that the actors may have had an exclusive interviewing deal with NBC, the network that broadcasted the awards.

Still, a burn’s a burn, and that’s gotta hurt!

Kate Winslet Steals the Golden Globes

January 11th, 2009

This year is Kate Winslet’s year, and tonight she proved it by winning Best Supporting Actress for The Reader and Best Actress for Revolutionary Road at the 2009 Golden Globes.

However her movies didn’t do quite as well as she did, as indie darling Slumdog Millionaire swept most of the categories it was nominated in, including the top honor of Best Motion Picture, along with Best Original Screenplay and Best Director.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture went to grizzled comeback kid Mickey Rourke, who seemed truly grateful to be once again in the good graces of Hollywood with his movie The Wrestler.

Tina Fey continued her awards season dominance, with 30 Rock grabbing an award for Best TV Series Comedy as well as Best Actress TV Series for herself.

If you haven’t seen John Adams, you’d be well-advised to do so, as it won Best Mini-Series for TV, as well as Best Actress and Actor nods for Laura Linney and Paul Giamatti.

While some speeches tended to drag on the teeniest bit (are you listening, Steven Spielberg?) others were a definite hit, including Tracy Morgan’s hilarious acceptance speech for 30 Rock and Sacha Baron Cohen’s quips as a presenter.

Overall, if the Globes are setting the stage for the Oscars, look out for Kate Winslet to take’em all home again, along with Slumdog Millionaire and Mickey Rourke.

OK! EXCLUSIVE: Lisa Rinna’s Red Carpet Style

January 9th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

The dresses, the diamonds, the drama! Awards season always brings a flurry of excitement to Hollywood — and as host for TV Guide Network’s red carpet specials, Lisa Rinna will be on camera to catch every star-spangled moment at the Golden Globes on Jan. 11, starting at  6 p.m. EST.

“This job is a blast,” the former soap actress, who will also cover the Oscars, tells OK!. “You never know what’s going to happen — or come out of someone’s mouth!”

Finding that perfect glamorous gown to wear on the carpet is always a challenge: Enter Lisa’s personal stylist, Jennifer Rade, and L.A.-based designer David Meister, who custom made the 1940s inspired, tea-rose silk jersey dress she will wear to the awards.

OK!: What do you like about this gown?

It’s very Marilyn Monroe. I love the shade and the halter neck. It’s comfortable — I’m standing on the red carpet for hours and the dress can’t have a long train because people will step on it.

OK!: Have you had any red carpet disasters?

Yes! My Versace dress for the 1997 Oscars was made out of chain metal. By the time I put the dress on, I was seven months pregnant, and I broke the back! So, Harry [Hamlin], Mr. MacGyver, went down to the garage and got pliers and fit the dress on me.

OK!: Ever been criticized for a fashion choice?

My leopard Jenny Packham dress from the SAG Awards last year. I was going to go with something different, but I listened to Harry — I don’t usually. When I had it altered they made it a little tighter, so my boobs were out there. But I thought, what the heck? I’ll go for it. I stand by the dress.

OK! Who do you want to win at the Globes?

It’s Kate Winslet’s turn. [Kate is nominated for lead actress in a motion picture drama for Revolutionary Road and for supporting actress in The Reader.] I’d like to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button take best picture; it’s my favorite film of the year. There are a lot of people coming — Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep — who I’ve never met.
