Paramore Talk ‘Twilight,’ Touring, 2009

December 23rd, 2008

Paramore’s Hayley Williams is thrilled to be part of the Twilight sensation. The band’s tunes Decode and I Caught Myself are featured on the soundtrack. But she was always a fan of the books.

“I think it’s a phenomenon,” Hayley, who turns 20 on Saturday, says. “We’re just thrilled to be a part of it. Our fans were part of our following before we blew up, and I think it means something to them, too. It’s opened a whole new world, and it definitely means a lot for our career. It’s changed a lot.”

Team Edward or Team Jacob?

“I feel good about both of them,” she says. “On one hand, one is the hero, and on another hand, the other is the hero, but I don’t know. I like both of them at different times.”

Guitarist Josh Farro admits the band would be thrilled with a spot in the forthcoming sequel New Moon. “We’re not campaigning, but we’d love to be part of it,” he says.

Hayley
can’t live without her Sidekick when she’s on the road.

“It’s awesome,” she tells me. “I can keep up with friends and family, and this game on it is called Bunny Chow and you can play anybody who has a Sidekick — anywhere. It’s sort of like Connect Four, but you can tag your roommate or your friend. I tag my roommate all the time, like ‘let’s play.’ We play Connect Four.”

What’s in store for 2009? For one thing, a new record.

“We’re just getting started,” she says. “Josh is writing like crazy, with music and stuff, and I’m listening to lyrics and melodies. So far I’ve been really stoked with everything. It’s interesting. We definitely have a lot to talk about. We’ve been through a lot this year. I can’t wait to get it all out and see what we have in us.”

Backstage at Z100’s Jingle Ball

December 15th, 2008

Katy Perry sniffs her armpits when she’s offered a membership to New York Health and Racquet Club during the H&M Artist Gift Lounge held Friday before Z100’s Jingle Ball in NYC.

The I Kissed A Girl singer says gift lounges are one of the best perks of being famous.

“You want to leave a Paul Newman legacy,” she tells me. “We get a lot of stuff, and we get to give it back. I know that my girlfriend backstage has a real cracked-out Blackberry, and I got a new Blackberry. She’s getting it.”

As members of Paramore shop around, Sean Paul tells me he can’t wait to use the SodaStream soda maker, Canon PowerShot digital camera and Blackberry Pearl Flip Smartphone in the recording studio.

I bump into Brody Jenner in the hallway before the Madison Square Garden concert featuring Kanye West, Rihanna, Chris Brown and Leona Lewis begins. He had a last-minute wardrobe switcheroo. “I had my Dickies on before I came here, and my manager told me to take them off and put my jeans on,” he says.

Ashley Tisdale enters the press room, sporting brunette locks instead of her trademark blonde. How does being a brunette compare to being a blonde?

“I’m naturally brunette, so I feel back to myself, I guess,” the High School Musical star tells me. “Being blonde, it was so much fun. I think blondes and brunettes have so much fun, but I feel like Sharpay really owns the blonde, so I kind of feel back to Ashley in a way, so it’s exciting.”

Ne-Yo plays it cool when asked what he thinks about the rumor that Rihanna is expecting with boyfriend Chris Brown.

“Really?!” he says. “That’s a new one on me. I just heard that. OK. If she is, congratulations, and if she isn’t  — come on guys, cut it out.” (Psst. Eyewitness acccount: Her stomach is totally flat.)

David Archuleta
giggles through American Idol questions, but when Hayley Williams of Paramore is asked to pose alone for a fashion shot, she declines. “I’m not very fashionable,” she shrugs, ducking off with the boys. (Hm, Demi Lovato would disagree.)

Veronicas singer Lisa Origliasso says they taught the Jonas Brothers “everything they know” when the boys opened for the girl group in 2006.

“I think people look at them like they’re good boys, and they are good boys, but they’re very rock-and-roll,” her twin Jessica Origliasso tells me.

Here is Lady GaGa, who looks like a Muppet in her long blonde hair and super-long eyelashes. “It’s not a persona,” she tells me. “This is who I really am — in all my origami glory.”

Up next is Jesse McCartney, who plays coy when it comes to dating. “The microphone has been my girlfriend for the last year,” he says. “I haven’t really done much.”

Get this — Brandy doesn’t want to leave the press room when she’s asked to move along. Her new Rodney Jerkins-produced single is called Right Here (Departed). “It’s about being there for the people that you love,” she says. “Everybody needs somebody, so I thought it was a great song to reintroduce me back to the world.”

Demi Lovato Admires Hilary, Christina — And Herself

November 6th, 2008

So, her best friend is Selena Gomez and her  “boys” are the Jonas Brothers, but there’s much more to Demi Lovato than the singing-and-acting sensation made famous by Camp Rock and her debut album, Don’t Forget.

The 16-year-old beauty, who can’t live without her BlackBerry, has a dog named Bailey and is the middle child of two sisters, ages 20 and 6. Her full name is Demetria, her nickname is Dem, and she doesn’t remember the last time she was grounded. “My parents and I are very close,” she says. “It’s been a long time.”

What’s her tour must-have?

“It’s a blow-dryer for my hair. When I get offstage, I’m sweating like a dog, so I’ll probably need to blow-dry my hair because it’ll be wet.”

She calls out Hayley Williams of Paramore as her fashion plate. “She has great style in her videos. I look up to her.” She tells me she hopes to be “the girl version of the Jonas Brothers” in the style department, but beautywise she looks no further than her mirror.

“I like to try and emphasize what I have, and not really look at other people,” she says.

But Demi isn’t shy about giving props to her Disney Channel role models.

“Definitely Hilary Duff because she carried out a great career and she’s still going. And Christina Aguilera. She was on Mickey Mouse Club, and look at her now.  She’s gotten so far.”

What does Demi want to be when she grows up?

“When I really, really grow up, I would like to continue this and also work as a director and continue writing.”
