Robin Williams to Have Heart Surgery

March 5th, 2009

Robin Williams‘ condition has gone from shortness of breath, as reported earlier this week, to serious surgery: the funnyman has just postponed the remainder of his comedy tour in order to undergo surgery for an aortic valve replacement, his rep says.

The statement also says:  "I’m so touched by everyone’s support and well wishes. This tour has been amazing fun and I can’t wait to get back out on the road after a little tune-up."

Robin postponed five shows earlier this week after complaining of shortness of breath, and was reportedly moved to the Intensive Care Unit of a Florida hospital.

Howie Mandel Doing “Just Fine”

January 22nd, 2009

Howie Mandel is making the rounds, calming fears that his health is not up to par.

In a new interview with Extra, the Deal Or No Deal host says he’s doing great after experiencing a recent health scare in Toronto.

"I am fine. They said my heart is healthy and strong and I just have a different rhythm than most people," Mandel said. "I hadn’t eaten or drank anything so it was just due to that."

"That" being when Mandel passed out in the lobby of his hotel. He had just returned from having an outpatient procedure to correct an irregular heart beat. He had been told to fast beforehand, which probably caused him to faint.

"In the middle of doing Howie Do It, which is a prank show…lying unconscious in the lobby of a hotel and people are going, ‘Ohhh…’ and somebody else is yelling, ‘911!’ they’re going, ‘this is a joke. You’re kidding. He’s kidding.’ And I wasn’t kidding."

Howie says he’s now doing great and wants to reiterate that he did NOT suffer a heart attack, as previously suspected.

However, an admitted germaphobe, he said he wouldn’t even get undressed when taken to the hospital.

"I was on a gurney…and there I was in my boots and pants and parka…"

Howie Mandel Opens Up About Health Scare

January 15th, 2009

Howie Mandel is speaking up about his recent health scare and putting to rest rumors that he suffered a heart attack.

In an interview with Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush on his nationally syndicated radio show The Billy Bush Show, the Deal or No Deal host says he’s doing just fine.

"The doctors say my heart is strong and I did not have an attack," Mandel says. Howie was filming NBC’s Howie Do It in Toronto on when he says he had a random checkup for insurance purposes. An EKG showed he had an irregular heartbeat but the doctor told him the problem could be corrected to get his heart back to a regular rhythm.

"They put you totally out and they take those defibrillators and they yell ‘Clear!’" Howie explained. "They shock you and your heart goes back to a normal rhythm."

It was after the procedure on Monday night when Howie, who was advised not to eat before the procedure, says he "got dizzy at the elevator and I must have passed out because I woke up in a gurney in an ambulance on the way back to the hospital."

Mandel, who says doctors told him his heart was fine, was kept overnight at the hospital for observation. Of the whole experience, he says, "I was terrified because I try to stay healthy, work out, I eat well and to be in a public lobby of a hotel and start to feel dizzy and then have no memory after that and to wake up in an ambulance is terrifying."

Christina’s Bleeding Love

December 1st, 2008

Christina Aguilera loves being a mother to son 10-month-old Max, her first child with husband Jordan Bratman, so her first Mother’s Day was very important. Luckily Jordan made it one to remember, giving her a special Stephen Webster locket.

The ruby heart features a diamond sword and a small drop of blood, and opens to reveal Max’s photo, according to InStyle, and is one of Christina’s favorite pieces in her jewelry box.

"I love the symbolism of the blood droplet," the singer tells the magazine. "It’s like Max pierced my heart."

So is there ever a time the jewelry-loving Xtina doesn’t find it appropriate to adorn herself with baubles?

"’Not appropriate’ is not something I live by," she confesses. "Probably the only time I did not wear jewelry was when I gave birth to my son, and only then because I was so swollen."
