Ashley Tisdale: Broadway Babe

Cover Story: Ashley Tisdale Like You’ve Never Seen Her

May 27th, 2009

At only 23 years old, Ashley Tisdale has already achieved a level of success most stars could only dream of in an entire career. Tisdale’s work includes the three monster High School Musical films, a starring role in the upcoming summer flick Aliens in the Attic, and her second solo album, Guilty Pleasure, which hits stores June 16.

In the new issue of OK!, the brunette beauty talks openly about being inspired by heartbreak following the end of her two-year relationship with singer-dancer Jared Murillo, finding new love with video director Scott Speer, and how she feels about — and maintains — her famous figure.

On Hollywood’s Obsession with being Thin:
“I’ve been very skinny my whole life… I don’t really like this look. I like curves — I think that’s more beautiful… I look at Jessica Alba and think she’s got a great body. I think that’s what women are supposed to look like.”

Ashley’s Eating Habits:
“I love French fries and bread, and when I’m on tour I have McDonald’s… At home, I like to cook — I love omelets in the morning. Still, I have started working out, so I do try to limit carbs and add protein. I want to build a little muscle.”

About Her New Album, Guilty Pleasure:
“It’s edgier and more mature… There’s a lot of breakup songs from stuff I experienced.” The most personal, a ballad titled “What If,” penned with American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, “is about when you’re in a relationship and you say ‘If I really needed you, would you actually be there?’ ”

HOT NEW PICS OF ASHLEY!

A Little Help from Her Friends:
“It’s important to have girlfriends, because guys tend to come and go… I hang out with Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens a lot and watch chick flicks and I listen to music like Pink’s ‘So What’ and Britney Spears’ ‘Out From Under.’ That helps me move on faster. Miley’s a big sweetheart. She’s stayed true to herself and hasn’t changed for how huge she is. She’s always there to listen.”

Her Ideal Man:
“I’m a big romantic, so I love guys who are romantic too. I think it’s important to be with someone that you can be yourself around. I need a guy that I can hang out with in sweats and no makeup and still feel comfortable and beautiful. Someone who’s trustworthy.”

Ashley’s Dream Co-Stars:
“I’m a big fan of Kate Hudson, Goldie Hawn and Cameron Diaz. They’re strong, independent women who don’t hold back. I’d love to work with them.”

Backstage at Z100’s Jingle Ball

December 15th, 2008

Katy Perry sniffs her armpits when she’s offered a membership to New York Health and Racquet Club during the H&M Artist Gift Lounge held Friday before Z100’s Jingle Ball in NYC.

The I Kissed A Girl singer says gift lounges are one of the best perks of being famous.

“You want to leave a Paul Newman legacy,” she tells me. “We get a lot of stuff, and we get to give it back. I know that my girlfriend backstage has a real cracked-out Blackberry, and I got a new Blackberry. She’s getting it.”

As members of Paramore shop around, Sean Paul tells me he can’t wait to use the SodaStream soda maker, Canon PowerShot digital camera and Blackberry Pearl Flip Smartphone in the recording studio.

I bump into Brody Jenner in the hallway before the Madison Square Garden concert featuring Kanye West, Rihanna, Chris Brown and Leona Lewis begins. He had a last-minute wardrobe switcheroo. “I had my Dickies on before I came here, and my manager told me to take them off and put my jeans on,” he says.

Ashley Tisdale enters the press room, sporting brunette locks instead of her trademark blonde. How does being a brunette compare to being a blonde?

“I’m naturally brunette, so I feel back to myself, I guess,” the High School Musical star tells me. “Being blonde, it was so much fun. I think blondes and brunettes have so much fun, but I feel like Sharpay really owns the blonde, so I kind of feel back to Ashley in a way, so it’s exciting.”

Ne-Yo plays it cool when asked what he thinks about the rumor that Rihanna is expecting with boyfriend Chris Brown.

“Really?!” he says. “That’s a new one on me. I just heard that. OK. If she is, congratulations, and if she isn’t  — come on guys, cut it out.” (Psst. Eyewitness acccount: Her stomach is totally flat.)

David Archuleta
giggles through American Idol questions, but when Hayley Williams of Paramore is asked to pose alone for a fashion shot, she declines. “I’m not very fashionable,” she shrugs, ducking off with the boys. (Hm, Demi Lovato would disagree.)

Veronicas singer Lisa Origliasso says they taught the Jonas Brothers “everything they know” when the boys opened for the girl group in 2006.

“I think people look at them like they’re good boys, and they are good boys, but they’re very rock-and-roll,” her twin Jessica Origliasso tells me.

Here is Lady GaGa, who looks like a Muppet in her long blonde hair and super-long eyelashes. “It’s not a persona,” she tells me. “This is who I really am — in all my origami glory.”

Up next is Jesse McCartney, who plays coy when it comes to dating. “The microphone has been my girlfriend for the last year,” he says. “I haven’t really done much.”

Get this — Brandy doesn’t want to leave the press room when she’s asked to move along. Her new Rodney Jerkins-produced single is called Right Here (Departed). “It’s about being there for the people that you love,” she says. “Everybody needs somebody, so I thought it was a great song to reintroduce me back to the world.”

Ashley: Ready for Senior Year!

October 24th, 2008

As the highly anticipated High School Musical 3: Senior Year gets ready to drop tonight, one of its stars, Ashley Tisdale, dropped by The Morning Show with Mike & Juliet this morning to reveal what audiences can expect.

"The third movie is one of the best ones," Tisdale, 23, told hosts Mike Jerrick and Juliet Huddy. "It’s pretty exciting. We are here because of the kids. We are so grateful, it’s pretty amazing."

Of her new brunette ‘do, Ashley says she feels more "sophisticated." "It’s close to my natural color so it feels good. I do have blond moments totally and I used to say it was the bleach getting to my head, but now I don’t have an excuse!"

The success of High School Musical has thrust Ashley and her co-stars Vanessa Hudgens, 19, and Zac Efron, 21, into the limelight. But HSM3’s jump from cable television to the big screen is something Tisdale says she never expected.

"We just thought we were doing another Disney Channel movie," she says. "They do tons of movies. Who knew it would be so humongous? The third movie is one of the best ones."

"There have a lot of weird paparazzi moments. The weirdest one was when one of them broke into my condo," she says. "They followed my stylist into my house."

Reports have also claimed Ashley is engaged to boyfriend Jared Murillo — a rumor she says is not true. "Oh, I’m not engaged," she says. "It’s just funny because I don’t know how it started. I wear rings and so they think I’m engaged. They make up things."

Ashley says she keeps grounded by staying true to her relationships. "I go over to Miley’s [Cyrus] house (she lives in my neighborhood). Her family is so great, so I’ll stop by. I knew Vanessa a year before [High School Musical] and Zac for three years before…we are all still really good friends," she says.

Zac Efron Gets Mushy

October 22nd, 2008

Two of High School Musical 3: Senior Year stars, Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale, sat down for an interview–with each other–where they revealed some of their favorite moments from making the third film, which hits theaters on Oct. 24.

"I think the music is even better [in HSM3] than the first two [movies]," Ashley revealed on MySpace.com’s Artist on Artist.  "The musical numbers are huge, the production value is insane."

"I think it’s all made for a much bigger screen," says Efron. "Things are just going to jump off the screen for everybody.  I feel like we had a lot more to do [in HSM3] , and we worked a lot harder."   He pauses before adding with a smirk,  "You got a lot better too, cause in the first movie, I mean you were alright…." (he makes a s0-so gesture with his hand.)  Ashley laughs, "Yeah, you did too!"

One of the most anticipated storylines involving the HSM3 seniors is what happens to Efron’s character Troy and his on-screen sweetheart played by Vanessa Hudgens.

"In the third movie, you really get to see them fall more deeply in love," Zac reveals.  "I think it’s great. They’re perfect for each other.  It’s fun to play off Vanessa, we have a great time."

Even though this is their third HSM film, Ashley and Zac admit they still get nervous.

"I drink a lot of water," the actress admits.  "That calms my nerves. It’s something I’ve always done–all my auditions, whenever I got really nervous I’d just have a lot of water and I’d be fine."

So what about Zac?  "I just think my nerves are the energy that I’m going to use…especially when performing in High School Musical.  All that nervous energy beforehand is actually just creative, constructive energy–you have to just think of it that way."

He looks at Ashley and then utters, "You’re making me laugh, I can’t answer this!"
