Amy Winehouse Hospitalized Again

May 22nd, 2009

She keeps trying to get back on stage, and they keep saying "No, no, no."

Amy Winehouse seemed to have her career on the mend, with a scheduled performance in London next week. But on the heels of reports saying that she was hospitalized yesterday with chest pains, Amy has canceled the U.K. show, slated for May 31. The performance was to be the last of a weeklong celebration for Island Record’s 50th anniversary.

"Amy Winehouse’s management has regretfully announced that Amy and her band will no longer be performing at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire," her rep said in a statement.

"Amy would like to apologize to her fans who bought tickets for the shows."

Refunds will be made available to ticket holders for the homecoming show.

Fans can hope that her side of the story will all become clear, as she announced on her MySpace blog Tuesday in a now-deleted post that cameras are following her every move for Saving Amy, a documentary from interviewer Daphne Barak, which will be released later this year.

"Amy and her family will be the subject of a new documentary later this year," the announcement read. "The journalist spent time with Amy and her family recently on St. Lucia, and in true honest to goodness Amy style, the doc will be a truthful and revealing look at her complicated lifestyle."

Now that’s something we want to see!

Jade’s Early Mother’s Day

March 18th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Sons gathering around their moms on Mother’s Day is a common and much-loved family tradition.

Jade Goody, the British reality TV star whose imminent death from cancer has made headlines around the world, enjoyed such a moment after leaving the hospital and going home for her final days.

The boys, Freddy, 4, and Bobby, 5, were taken by their father, Jade’s ex-boyfriend Jeff Brazier, to bring flowers to their mom at home on March 14 as part of an early Mother’s Day party in the UK, a week earlier than the actual day.

When Freddy asked his mom why she looked so drowsy, Jade replied, “Because the angels are calling for Mommy.”

Jade, under heavy sedation to handle the pain, struggled to stay awake during her sons’ visit.

Jade’s publicist, Max Clifford, said, “She was aware of them for a brief moment or two. She saw them and she smiled. She has put her house in order and faced up to everything in an incredibly brave way.”

Jade, 27, had discharged herself from the London hospital a few days before so she could be more comfortable for her final moments.

The former dental nurse was brought home from the Royal Marsden Hospital dressed in pajamas, wrapped in blankets and accompanied by two nurses.

Her husband, Jack Tweed, 21, was by her side for the journey. Clifford said, “It means so much to her to be close to the boys. Home is where she wants to be.”

While at home, Jade, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer last August, has been planning her funeral. It will be held at the church of St. John the Baptist, Buckhurst Hill near her home in Essex and will be broadcast on jumbo TV screens outside the church.

“The funeral will be a celebration of Jade’s life, a reflection of how she’s lived the last seven years,” added Clifford.

“She wants to spend as much time as she can with Jack and the boys,” Clifford explained. “If they can train the local nurses, they will keep her pain free by topping up the epidural.”

He added that Jade, whose cancer has spread to her liver, groin and bowel, wanted to be “at home surrounded by love — and having as many kisses and cuddles from the boys as she can get before she goes.”

Octomom Frustrated, Wants Babies Home

March 17th, 2009

Octomom Nadya Suleman is trying to pull the plug on her newborn octuplets’ hospital stay.

Suleman is frustrated over doctors and social workers’ refusal to release the first two of her babies from the hospital. According to the L.A. Times, Suleman told Radar.com that she hoped two of her sons would be coming home on Monday but that officials at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center decided to keep them for now.

"I’m really upset about this. I really wanted to return to a normal life," she said. "I know the hospital is doing its best for the kids, but I never asked them for all of this. It just makes me sad, and I’m going to do everything I can to get them back, but I also need to please the hospital."

Suleman said she spent seven hours at the hospital on Monday, saying that hospital officials wanted to make sure that she can properly feed the babies.

The two babies scheduled to go home are each 5 1/2 pounds and very healthy. Eventually, she plans to have all 14 of her children at the La Habra home. "Even when the babies are home, it’s not going to sink in," she said.

Dance Injury Lands Steve-O in Hospital

March 16th, 2009

The curse of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars continues! On Monday night, an already injured Steve-O added serious insult to… well, you know, when he landed on his microphone pack making his already injured back much worse only two hours before the show, forcing him to bow out of tonight’s competition and head to the hospital.

The judges were forced to score Steve-O’s dress rehearsal footage — a first in DWTS history! He received a meager score of 14. Host Tom Bergeron told viewers, "Steve-O hopes to be back." Partner Lacey Schwimmer told OK!, "Nothing’s broken."

Update: Producers have confirmed that Steve-O has been released from the hospital and is resting. He is expected to continue in the competition.

Emergency Surgery for Jade Goody

March 2nd, 2009

There’s more drama in the story that is gripping Britain.

Terminally ill star Jade Goody was rushed to hospital last night for emergency surgery.

The newly wed TV personality — who is dying of cancer — had been in agonising pain over the weekend because of an obstruction in her intestines.

At around 5pm on Sunday, the mother of two was taken by ambulance from her hospice to a hospital where she was due to have the operation either last night or this morning.

“She is in so much pain,” said British super-publicist Mr Clifford after she had been transfered to the Royal Marsden hospital in London.

“When I spoke to her she was sobbing. She is putting on a brave face but she is very frightened and keeps asking me why she is in so much pain. She is very upset.

“They have not been able to get the pain under control at the hospice so they have decided to take her to the Marsden and the likelihood is that she will need further surgery.

“She wants to go home. She doesn’t want to be in hospital.”

Doctors have told Jade — who rose to fame after appearing on reality show Big Brother — she has just weeks to live.

The cervical cancer that she has been fighting since last year spread to her liver, groin and bowel.

Ed McMahon Hospitalized with Pneumonia

February 27th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Television icon Ed McMahon has been hospitalized and his condition said to be "extremely serious."

A family member confirmed to ET that the 85-year-old has been at an L.A. area hospital for nearly one month to treat pneumonia. He is in the intensive care unit where he was also recently diagnosed with systemic bone cancer.

A source tells ET that McMahon’s wife Pam’s "deep faith is helping her though this difficult time."

According to TMZ, a person close to the TV personality calls his condition, "extremely serious. It’s not great, to say the least."

Ed’s rep, Howard Bragman, who confirmed the hospitalization, added, "He’s not at Cedars-Sinai" — a dig on the hospital Ed is suing for alleged malpractice and elder abuse.

Usher’s Wife Back Home

February 19th, 2009

R&B singer Usher’s wife, Tameka Raymond, is back in the U.S.

Raymond left Brazil on Wednesday on a flight home, a day after being discharged from a Sao Paulo hospital where she had been recovering after suffering a heart attack during a routine liposuction operation gone terribly wrong.

E! News reports that Raymond made her way through Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport, chatting on her cell phone and looking more or less in a good mood.

Usher’s wife had travelled to Brazil to have a routine nip/tuck, but ended up suffering cardiac arrest while she was being put under general anesthesia. Doctors managed to revive her, and she was placed in an induced coma for 24 hours to avoid "unnecessary complications."

Upon hearing the news, Usher, 30, cancelled his scheduled performance at Clive Davis’s star-studded pre-Grammys bash in L.A. and immediately flew to be by her side.

Raymond and Usher welcomed their second son in December.
