Billy Crystal to Host 2010 Oscars?

February 24th, 2009

Hugh Jackman successfully hosted one of the highest rated televised Oscar shows in recent history on Sunday, catapulting him into the rotation of available hosts for future shows.

But according to FoxNews.com, an "oldie but goodie" may be looking to jump back into the lineup.

Billy Crystal is reportedly interested in returning as host of the Oscars, following last Sunday’s spectacular format and, consequently, sky-high ratings.

Crystal last hosted the Academy Awards in 2004 but it’s safe to say, when it comes to Oscar’s favorite hosts from recent years, Crystal takes the cake.

He first hosted in 1990, continuing on a four-year consecutive streak through 1993. After taking a 3-year break, Crystal returned for another round of back-to-back hosting in 1997 and 1998, and again in 2000.

The funnyman reportedly has an open schedule these days, having finished touring with his one-man show.

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

Wilson is slated to host 40 episodes, where newly married couples answer questions to find out how well they know each other.

The original show, hosted by Bob Eubanks, debuted in 1966 on ABC, and went on to span over 20 years on the air.

"I’ve always loved game shows," Carnie, 40, says. "My personality and energy is perfect for something like this. First of all I’m married, and I loved watching The Newlywed Game when I was younger. I watched it all the time. I always hoped the couples would start fighting."

The new edition of The Newlywed Game premieres April 6. It will feature an updated set and a new bonus round with couples who have remained married since appearing on the show.

Hugh Jackman to Host Academy Awards

December 12th, 2008

The Oscars is getting a sexy new host—

Hugh Jackman, who was voted this year’s Sexiest Man Alive–will host the 81st Academy Awards, it was confirmed on Friday.

The 40-year-old Australia star is no stranger to hosting award shows. In 2004, Jackman hosted the 59th annual Tony Awards, for which he won an Emmy a year later.

His choice as this year’s Oscars host is part of the ceremony’s new look and feel. The show will have new producers as well as a new set director. Jackman’s selection is also a departure from the Academy’s standard of big-game comedians.

Past show hosts have included Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, Jon Stewart and Whoopi Goldberg.

Jackman was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in 2001’s Kate & Leopold. He currently stars in the big budget epic Australia, co-starring Nicole Kidman.
