Robert Downey, Jr. & ScarJo Get Fit for Iron Man 2

April 3rd, 2009

Sure, Iron Man may have saved the world, but more importantly, he’s whipped two of Hollywood’s hottest hotties into amazing shape.

The star of last summer’s hit movie, Robert Downey, Jr., told Entertainment Tonight that he is being forced to transform from the "skinny Brit" he plays in Sherlock Holmes into the "Beefcake Charlie" he plays in the second installment of the super-hero flick, tentatively set for release in the spring of 2010

And not only that, but he reports that his Iron Man 2 co-star Scarlett Johansson is also in "insane shape" for the sequel.

"We’ve been rehearsing and she’s in insane shape. She’s getting lean and mean," he said of the new Mrs. Reynolds, who will play femme fatale Black Widow in the second installment.

As for RDJ himself, he’s now on a diet that while change his physique from Sherlock’s helper, Watson, into Iron Man alter-ego Tony Stark.

"I’m on Beefcake Charlie status," he jokes. "I’ve got to not be the skinny Brit anymore. I have to be the Tony that you know and may have loved," he told the show during and interview about his latest film, The Soloist.

Terrence Howard on Iron Man Ouster

October 20th, 2008

As the industry publication Hollywood Reporter recently reported, Don Cheadle will apparently be replacing Terrence Howard in the next Iron Man movie as Jim Rhodes, Tony Stark’s best friend, in a switch-up that has even the actors themselves confused.

"It was the surprise of a lifetime," Terrence tells NPR, sounding none too pleased. "There was no explanation. [The contract] just…up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren’t worth the paper that they’re printed on, sometimes. Promises aren’t kept, and good faith negotiations aren’t always held up."

However all may not yet be set in stone, as Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige told MTV News.

“As is the policy with most people, when you talk about dotting I’s and crossing T’s, certainly that isn’t the case yet on a number of things we’re doing,” he says. “But that [Hollywood Reporter story] was not an announcement. That was, as it tends to happen in the business, is rumors and leaks and things like that. I do think there will be clarity soon.”

Do tell – we’re sure Terrence would be interested in any further developments involving his own career..

Iron Man Cast Switch-Up

October 14th, 2008

Expect to see Don Cheadle suiting up as War Machine, Iron Man’s best friend and fellow hero in Iron Man 2, instead of Terrence Howard.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Don will replace Terrence in the Marvel Studios film as Jim Rhodes, the wing man and best bud to Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark.

The move comes as a surprise, as one of the last scenes in last summer’s blockbuster hit featured Terence sizing up a silver superhero suit and saying, "Next time."

Marvel Studios hasn’t commented yet, but sources say they wanted to work with Don and that Terrence’s deal fell through due to financial wrangling.

Justin Theroux is writing the screenplay, and Jon Favreau will return as the director. Iron Man fans are in for a bit of a wait, however: the flick isn’t scheduled for release until May of 2010.
