From Slumdog To Bond Girl?

March 13th, 2009

The buzz around Freida Pinto just gets buzzier every day.

The latest news is that the Slumdog starlet could be the next Bond girl.

According to reports in a British newspaper, she has been invited to screen tests to cast the iconic role for the sequel to Quantum of Solace.

Apparently exec producer Barbara Broccoli is "eager" for both her and Oscar-winning Slumdog director Danny Boyle to sign up for the next 007 project.

“Freida came to the attention of the Bond team when they were casting Quantum of Solace," the Sun quotes their source as saying.

“She was too young at the time to have a part as a love interest for a secret agent.

“But she has blossomed into an incredibly stunning young woman and would look perfect on Daniel Craig’s arm."

Daniel Craig: Brosnan Urged Me to Take Bond Role

October 21st, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Before Casino Royale went into production a few years back, it was announced that Pierce Brosnan would be ending his run as superspy James Bond and would be replaced by up-and-coming hunk Daniel Craig. And while there are several reports of Brosnan being none-too-happy about no longer filling 007’s shoes, Craig says that he received Pierce’s blessing before he even got the role.

In an interview set to air Tuesday night on Extra, the Quantum of Solace star recalls how it all went down. “I sat next to him [Brosnan] at the BAFTAs… after dinner, after having enough to drink, I just went over [to him] and said, ‘Look, it’s not on the cards. It might be on the cards. If it were to be on the cards, what should I do?’ And he said, ‘Go for it. Just go for it. You’ve got to have a go at this.’”

Even though he got the thumbs-up from Brosnan, Craig says his favorite Bond is from an earlier generation. “Sean Connery without a doubt. Nothing against Pierce and everyone else.”

Jack White’s Bond Song

August 21st, 2008

Jack White and Alicia Keys’ performance for the newest James Bond film Quantum Solace theme song, "Another Way to Die," has already made history as the first duet in Bond movie history. Jack recently commented for the first time on the creative process involved in recording the trac.

"I drummed for her voice and she mimicked the guitar tones," Jack says of Alicia, "then we joined our voices and screamed and moaned about these characters in the film and their isolation, having no one to trust, not even themselves.  Maybe we became them for a few minutes."

The song, written, produced and performed by both musicians, was the culmination of years of waiting to record together, says Jack.

"After a couple of years of wanting to collaborate with Alicia Keys, it took James Bond himself to finally make it happen," he reveals. " Alicia put some electric energy into her breath that cemented itself into the magnetic tape. Very inspiring to watch. It gave me a new voice, and I wasn’t myself anymore."

Joined in the studio by The Memphis Horns, Jack says additional musicians from Nashville also helped with the historic track. " We wanted to push soul into those tapes, and join the family of Barry, Bassey, Connery and Craig."

Quantum of Solace will hit theaters in November. Meanwhile Jack will be on the road for a series of festival dates in Europe with his band The Raconteurs on Aug. 23. Catch his North Americna tour starting Sept. 16 in Oregon.

Pierce Brosnan Out to Sea

July 28th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

All aboard! Pierce Brosnan is ready to set sail!

The Mamma Mia! star is planning to make waves this summer with his new hobby — boating!

“He wants to brush up on his sea-faring skills,” a friend of the actor tells OK!. “He learned how to drive just about every boat there is for James Bond, and in The Thomas Crown Affair, he spent a lot of time on the open water."

So taken with boats Pierce is that he’s planning to fashion his own vessel for outings to sea with his family, wife Keely Shaye Smith and their children, Dylan, 11, and Paris, 7.

“Keely loves the idea,” adds the friend.

But before the 55-year-old can get his hand on his own toy, he plans on retreating to a tropical island with his wife before he starts production on The Greatest and The Thomas Crown Affair sequel for a romantic getaway.

"Pierce says there’s nothing like being alone on the ocean with your loved ones," the friend says.

Pierce on Losing Bond: “I Didn’t See That Coming”

June 12th, 2008

Actresses aren’t the only ones dealing with ageism in Hollywood. Pierce Brosnan is feeling its effects as well — and it hurts.

While Sean Connery and Roger Moore played James Bond well into their 50s (58 and 53, respectively), Pierce was revoked of his license to kill at age 51 for the then-37-year-old Daniel Craig, which definitely took him by surprise.

"I didn’t see that coming," the actor tells Parade magazine. "I never thought of myself as being too old. It was startling to hear such things said about oneself, especially when you thought you were going down that particular avenue and then the door gets slammed in your face."

The Irish stud knew his days as 007 were numbered, but figured producers would give him one last hurrah before passing the torch.

"I thought we were going to do a fifth film," he says. "And I was going to take a gracious bow off the stage. Instead of that you’re just told, ‘Goodbye.’"

Now 55, Pierce has since traded in tuxes for t-shirts, living with wife Keely and their sons Dylan, 11, and Paris, 7, in Hawaii. His next flick, a big-screen production of Mamma Mia! hits theaters July 18, and he has made peace with his Bond axing.

"That’s the way it goes down in life," he says. "It’s as hard and as fast as that."

Amy Winehouse Bails on Bond Theme

May 5th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Only days after he sparked rumors that singer Amy Winehouse would be the latest star to lend their voice to the theme of a James Bond theme, record producer Mark Ronson has changed his tune, saying that he and the troubled Grammy-winner have shelved all recording projects for the time being.

In an interview with Britain’s Sky News, Mark, who many insiders claim is the mastermind behind Winehouse’s multiple award-winning album Back to Black, explains that the "Rehab" singer is "not ready to record any music," and that it would require a "miracle of science" to complete the tune they’ve been in the studio working on for the upcoming 007 flick, Quantum of Solace.

Well, if there’s one thing the James Bond films are known for, it’s miracles of science, so maybe fans can hold out hope?

Rumor Mill: Amy Winehouse to Sing Next Bond Song

April 29th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Reports are circulating that troubled Grammy-winner Amy Winehouse is working on a possible theme song for the next James Bond film, Quantum of Solace.

According to Mark Ronson, who is producing Amy’s follow-up to the hugely successful Back to Black album, he and the troubled songstress are in the studio putting together a track for the film, set to be released in November, though he admits that it’s not a sure thing at this point whether or not the song will make the final cut.

While a spokesman for Winehouse’s record label Island Records calls the Bond rumors "speculation," they do admit that "it would be lovely" if the "Rehab" singer were the latest in a long line of big names to sing a Bond theme.

Previous hit-makers to record a song for a 007 film include Paul McCartney ("Live and Let Die"), Duran Duran ("A View to a Kill"), Sheena Easton ("For Your Eyes Only"), Tina Turner ("GoldenEye"), Madonna ("Die Another Day"), Sheryl Crow ("Tomorrow Never Dies") and most recently Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, whose "You Know My Name" was the opening song for Casino Royale.

Rumor Mill: Will Bond Be in the Buff?

April 10th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

Fans of the James Bond movie franchise can’t seem to wait until Nov. 6 when the 22nd installment, Quantum of Silence, hits theaters. But aol.com has talked to producer Michael G. Wilson to clear up some of the rumors that are out there.

"I’m letting the cat out of the bag," he said. "They’re going to be mad."

The first rumor is that the Bond villain, played by Mathieu Amalric, might be gay. He might be and viewers are expected to look for the subtext of what he does and says.

There are also rumors that Al Pacino and Amy Winehouse are tapped to make cameos. Al’s would be in the form of a role in the film and Amy’s would be as the singer of the famed theme song. But those two are just rumors.

The rumor that perhaps the female legion of Bond fans hoped would be true is that Daniel Craig would appear nude in the film. Unfortunately that is nothing more than idol gossip. But Daniel is still hot enough to get us bonded to this film!

"I’m always after him to take his clothes off, every day," joked producer Barbara Broccoli. "I have to fight on behalf of all the women, and some of the men, too. I’m doing my best."

Daniel Craig Dishes About New Bond Film

March 20th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

Long listed as merely Bond 22 while in pre-production, the newest installment of the James Bond series left many wondering what the official name of the film will be, including Bond himself, Daniel Craig. But when Quantum of Solace was finally confirmed as the flick’s title, the Brit was very pleased with the choice.

"I’m very happy with it. It came from an Ian Fleming short story," he tells Extra. It encapsulates what the movie is at heart and a lot more which I can’t give any away."

Production is currently underway on Quantum, which will definitely be more action-packed than Casino Royale, Daniel promises. How much more?

"[The stunts have] started to hurt," Daniel, 40, says. "So I can only gauge it by how much pain I’m in and I think we’re doing pretty good."

As for the Bond girls, gone are Eva Green and Ivana Milicevic, and in their place are Brit Gemma Arterton and Ukranian model-turned-actress Olga Kurylenko.

Gemma, 22, plays Agent Fields and says it’s "incredible" being on set. Twenty-eight-year-old Olga portrays Camille, who is "very driven. She has her own mission in the movie and, of course, she comes across Bond. They are opponents and then they have to work together. She’s very feisty."

Quantum of Solace opens Nov. 7.
