Teri Hatcher: No Desperate Singer

July 18th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Teri Hatcher is no desperate singer.

The Desperate Housewives star told OK! how much she loves her side gig, singing with her TV co-star, James Denton.

"Jamie and I are doing some more singing with the band," revealed Teri, who also sang on American Idol Gives Back last seasonWhen asked what she likes about singing, Teri laughed, "Certainly not the insecurity! We were just at a rehearsal the other night–Jamie is part owner of a baseball team and we’re doing a performance there–and they asked me to sing a few songs."

Teri continues, "It’s just sort of that fun other side of you, t’s not really for anyone else.  It’s not to be critiqued; it’s not to be judged.  It’s just probably on the same level as people who like to play that guitar hero!"

Stars’ Fourth of July Plans

July 3rd, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

What a difference a year makes!

Last Fourth of July, Charlie Sheen spirited his girlfriend Brooke Mueller off for a week-long Costa Rican getaway that culminated with their engagement.

Now the two are newlyweds and are putting the finishing touches no their Beverly HIlls estate in time for their Fourth of July bash.

"We’re going to have an old-fashioned Bar-B-Q with our family and friends," Charlie tells OK!.

The two aren’t the only ones celebrating the nation’s birthday with their clans. After working straight for half the year already, Carrie Underwood is definitely looking for some down time at home.

"Actually I think that is my vacation time," she tells OK!. "I’m going to be hanging out with my family."

Soap star Cameron Mathison will get his first break in nine weeks too come July 4th. The Dancing with the Stars alum plans on heading up to Upstate New York for a mountainside retreat with his family, wife Vanessa and kids Luke, 5, and Leila, 1.

"We’re going to have a five-day getaway," he tells OK!. "This place is just unbelievable. It’s just this old, huge, estate getaway on a lake. You can canoe, you can hike, there’s a spa, there’s golf, there’s great food, for the kids, they have this whole kids camp facility. The kids go crazy there. There are areas where you can just go sit and look out over the lake. It’s just a beautiful getaway from Manhattan. Just a great spot."

Fellow TV hunk James Denton plans on going away with his wife and kids as well. The Desperate Housewives stud, his wife Erin and their kids, Sheppard, 5, and Malin, 3, will head out to Livingston, Mt., where they will continue their tradition of going to the rodeo.

"They have one of the oldest rodeos in the country, so we always go to the rodeo on the fourth of July," he says. "It’s really become the best memory, even though it’s become tradition. But the kids love it."

And what’s Fourth of July without fireworks?

"We have fireworks on the last night," James says. "It’s like L.A. up there, fireworks are sort of dangerous. The fireworks are very closely contained. It’s a really great four-day even that the kids just love, so that’s our favorite thing."

As much fun as fireworks are, they’re also, well, pretty dangerous — and no one knows that better firsthand than Ashanti. One of the R&B star’s most memorable July 4th celebration was on fire, in more ways than one.

"One of the bushes caught on fire on the side of the house and there were so many people there," she says. "There were kids, there were people in the pool, barbequing, dancing, there was drinks all over. So somebody dumped the cooler on the bush, and the fire got bigger. The fire got huge. All the guys were pouring ice and buckets of water. I forgot how they finally got it out, but they finally got it out. It was hilarious. They had to get the fire trucks to come up to the house. It was very funny."

Will James Denton return to DH?

June 18th, 2008

Desperate Housewives’ season finale threw us all in tissy when the ladies were tossed five years in the future.

We saw Susan, who had just given birth to Mike Delfino’s baby, kissing on another man! No, Susan, no!

So is her sexy plumber husband gone for good? Even his portrayer, James Denton, can’t say for sure.

"Fortunately, I don’t have to mislead anybody because I’m still in the dark," says James, adding that he’ll find out the fate of his character by the end of the month. "I’m not worried by whether I’ll be back. I just don’t know what capacity it will be."

Mike just got over his drug addiction, after battling amnesia (and that stint in jail!). What more can the poor man take? "There’s talk of all kinds of states for Mike, from being with someone else, all the way to having left in some tragic accident," James reveals.

Life can be tough for a man residing on Wisteria Lane! "None of the guys are safe. We all know that going in. But you just can’t worry about that," says James. "[DH creator] Marc Cherry knows I’m all for whatever’s best for the show. We’ve been on four years and had a great run, so we’ll wait and see what they decide is the best thing for Mike and Susan." And the best thing for us, which is to keep them together!

James is keeping his mind off work and spending some well deserved R&R time outdoors, now that the actor has conquered his seasonal allergies. He’s teamed up with Zagat guides and GlaxoSmithKline for www.outandaboutwithallergies.com, an online campaign to help fellow allergy sufferers find relief in when they are braving the elements at some of the coolest outdoor spots across the country.

"I’m outside all the time," James says. "The guide is great because it gives you some tips on how you can control your allergies in your favorite outdoor places."

Like on the set of Wisteria Lane? We want you back, James!

Celebs Speak Out on Writers’ Strike

November 9th, 2007

I admit it; I’ve been blocking out the TV writers’ strike since it began Monday morning. I just can’t image a life without fresh, new episodes of my favorites shows. But with news of Fox canceling 24’s January 13 season premiere, ABC postponing Cashmere Mafia’s November 27 launch date and late night talk shows suddenly in rerun, I have no choice but to deal. Luckily, the stars that deliver those witty lines on a nightly basis accept reality faster than I do.

“We are shut down. We will go back to work when they figure it out,” declared Desperate Housewives’ James Denton from the red carpet of the CMA Awards in Nashville on Wednesday night. James expressed concern for the guys who make their living working on the big shows, but don’t reap the big paychecks. “It is worse for our crews and the caterers – all the people that aren’t lucky to make the kind of money we make,” he admitted. “We are really fortunate. I hope it is over fast for their sake and our own, but those guys really get hurt.”

It’s not just the “scripted” series that are getting hit. This really could be the night the music died, according to The Singing Bee host Joey Fatone, whose lyrically challenging game show is also in limbo. “It’s affected,” he revealed at Bank of America’s Round Up Relay to benefit Toys For Tots in New York City. “[NBC] has got The Biggest Loser out there for a two-hour special for now. Hopefully once that goes through we’re going to be airing some more… right now we’re not going to be shooting until further notice.”

Despite my ultimate fear of my DVR having 35 empty slots in mere weeks, I’m keeping positive that all parties involved can come to a fair agreement soon. And I’m not the only one. “I hope that they settle it, and I hope that the writers get what they want, because they should be paid,” exclaimed funnyman Robin Williams at a Scleroderma event at Caroline’s in New York City. “They work really hard, and I just hope it doesn’t go so long where it hurts everybody…we have electricians, all the guys, cause you know at a certain point it hurts everybody.”

Including yours truly. After all, this TV Fanatic has got a daily blog to fill!
