Brit’s Dad Is Selling Her Cars

March 17th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

After being ordered on Monday to pay more of Kevin Federline’s legal fees, the conservators for Britney Spears are wasting no time tightening her purse strings.

During Monday’s hearing, Commissioner Goetz authorized Jamie Spears and co-conservator, Andrew Wallet, to sell a few of brit’s cars. The exact makes and models were not available and it’s not clear how many of the singer’s cars will be sold.

But just for fun, let’s think: there’s the white Mini-Coup, the grey Audi, the black Mercedes, the white Mercedes and at least two leased black Escalades…

Co-conservator Andrew Wallet made the request today in court. Britney’s court appointed attorney, Sam Ingham, was also there. His response to the request: "I have no objection to that."

Meanwhile, the commish also signed off on an extension to the conservator’s restraining order against Sam Lutfi. The order remains in effect until April 16. As OK! reported yesterday, the request was granted swiftly and without a showdown because Sam reportedly agreed to having the order extended. Apparantly he thinks it’s best for both him and the Britster.

And, our reaction to that, as it was yesterday, is: UH-HUH!

Brit’s Conservatorship Extended Through the Summer

March 5th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

On Wednesday, a court commissioner ruled to keep Jamie Spears on as conservator over the personal and business affars of his daughter, Britney Spears, through July 31.

TMZ is reporting the order is effectively a seal of approval for Poppa Spears, who has been co-conservator since Brit’s latest breakdown.

Sources also say the conservators are open to ending the conservatorship earlier than July 31, if Britney’s mental state sufficiently improves and stabilizes.

Under the conservatorship, Britney appears to be recovering significantly. She teaches regular dance classes to children at Millennium Dance Complex, has abandoned her wild and erratic night life and has won back  visitation rights with her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

Today’s news is probably not going over well with Britney’s former confidante, Sam Lutfi, who, after being served with a restraining order two weeks ago by the conservators, has vowed publically to "fight to the end" to overturn the order and regain his friendship with the pop singer.

With all of the positive energy surrounding Britney right now, it’s hard not to think that Sam’s absence might be a good thing after all.

And, by the looks of things, the court seems to agree.

Brit’s Conservatorship Case Knocked Back to State Court

February 26th, 2008

A day after lawyers for Jamie Spears went to court to challenge claims that Brit’s conservatorship was violating her civil rights, a judge slammed the book on the civil rights challenge and knocked the conservatorship case back to state court.

Federal District Judge Philip Gutierrez ruled that Jon Eardley, the attorney who claimed to represent Britney Spears, "had no authority" to remove the singer’s conservatorship case from state court.

The judge added, "Mr. Eardley is not Ms. Spears’ attorney and acted improperly by removing her conservatorship proceeding to federal court."

The court did not award the conservatorship attorney fees, however, which means Brit will have to pay around $40,000 for the now meaningless case.

On Monday, lawyers for Jamie Spears filed papers challenging Eardley’s case, which claimed Britney’s civil rights were being violated as a result of the conservatorship. Eardley insisted that he was Brit’s lawyer, had been hired by Britney herself and had several witnesses lined up "in California and abroad" to testify on her behalf. He also claimed to be aware of "voicemails" in which Jamie Spears was verbally abusive toward his daughter.

Jamie’s lawyers fired back, saying that under the conservatorship authority set in place on Feb. 6, Britney could not legally choose her own counsel. Since Eardley claims he was hired by Brit six days after Jamie Spears was made co-conservator, he can not legally be Britney’s attorney. Eardley also failed to meet the court’s deadline to file all of this with the proper paperwork.

Bottom line: all parties are due back in state court on March 10, when a judge will decide if Jamie Spears will remain on as the conservator of Brit’s estate.

Sam Gets Served — Finally!

February 21st, 2008 / Author: cwillett

After weeks of playing hide and seek with authorities, Sam Lutfi was finally served with a restraining order, forbidding him from going near Britney Spears.

Brit’s former confidante was served at 11 a.m. PT on Thursday as he was leaving his apartment in West L.A. The restraining order forbids Lutfi from coming within 250 yards of Britney, her home, the Spears family or their homes. It also alleges, "Mr. Lutfi has drugged Britney. He has cut Britney’s home phone line and removed her cell phone chargers. He claims to control everything."

Brit’s conservators originally had until yesterday at 1:30 p.m. to serve Sam with the restraining order. Because the papers weren’t served until today, there is a chance that Sam will have to be served again with updated papers.

OK! spoke with L.A. Superior Court Spokesman Allan Parachini who said of tomorrow’s court hearing, "We just have to wait until everyone shows up and what motions are granted. Whether Britney will show, or Michael Sands, or Jon Eardley, or Sam Lutfi or all of the above will help determine what force the restraining order has."

At the time the restraining order was sought, Britney’s family had been locked in a power struggle with Lutfi, who they reportedly blame for the singer’s increasingly bizarre behavior over the last year.

Britney & Mom Reunite!

January 29th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

Finally ending months of mother-daughter silence, Britney Spears and her mother Lynne reconnected late Monday night for a late-night trip to a Los Angeles drugstore with Brit’s pal Sam Lutfi.

Lynne had arrived in L.A. late Sunday night and had spent a good portion of Monday visiting her two grandchildren, Sean Preston, 2, and 1-year-old Jayden James, at the house of their father, Brit’s ex-hubby Kevin Federline.

The Brit-Lynne shopping trip comes after reports of a tension-filled night between Sam and Brit’s on-off-on beau, photographer Adnan Ghalib. The former paparazzo had attempted to visit Britney at her home in the gated community of The Summit, but was turned back at the gate. The pair ultimately met up a few miles away from Brit’s home and drove away together in Adnan’s car.

Britney’s Mom Visits K-Fed

Britney Spears‘ estranged mom, Lynne Spears, arrived by herself in Los Angeles late Sunday night . Her arrival coincides with today’s report that the pop star and her mother are, once again, in touch.

Monday morning on The View, Barbara Walters revealed that she spoke with Britney’s friend, Sam Lutfi, who told her he believes the pop star suffers from a treatable mental illness. Lutfi also confirmed that Britney and Lynne have been speaking again. (The two have been estranged since last summer.)

As for Lynne’s plans to see her troubled daughter, an eyewitness says it may or may not be her reason for coming to L.A. The source confirms to OK! that Lynne spent Monday night at Kevin Federline’s house, visiting with her two grandsons, Sean and Jayden.

Lynne may have been in town to tie up some loose ends. She and her pregnant daughter, Jamie Lynn, are reportedly getting rid of their home in Valencia to live full time in Kentwood, La.

In the meantime, Britney’s been granted "telephonic communication" with her boys. In the latest minute report, commissioner Scott Gordon ruled "Petitioner is to have telephonic contact with the minor children in accordance with the parties’ oral stipulation this date."

Britney was previously denied physical contact with the kids after her various meltdowns.
