Michael Phelps and Demi Moore make quite an odd couple as they pose backstage during the 2009 ESPY Awards on July 15 in L.A. Jamie Pressly might be a trash-talker as Joy Turner on My Name is Earl, but in real life, the I Love You Man star is nothing but sweet, even when it comes to talking about ex Eric Cubiche. The couple have a son together, two-year-old Dezi James.
"When I was pregnant, Eric’s job changed. He became a traveling DJ. So he was gone a lot," she tells the new issue of Redbook of their split. "That’s how part of the… separation started. We’d been best friends for so long, and now it was kind of like we were leading two separate lives."
Jamie seems to have a practical attitude of the breakup, adding, "It’s hard because when you’re with somebody for a long time or have a child with someone, you start to expect them to be this person you had in mind. Then if they don’t fill the expectation, resentment starts to come up. Sometimes it just doesn’t work."

Even if she is shouldering a lot of the responsibility for Dezi with full custody, Jamie says Eric plays an important role in their family.
"When he’s in town, Eric comes and sees Dezi every day," she reveals. "Eric’s very much a part of his life; he’s a great father."
As for the kind of man she’s looking for to take her and Dezi on in the future, Jamie knows exactly what she wants – someone who cares.
"I’d like to be with somebody who isn’t afraid to take care of me – whether they have the same financial means as me or not," she explains. "What’s important is that they realize there are other ways of taking care of me that have [nothing] to do with money. Like cooking me dinner or going to the grocery store or picking up after yourself."
