DVR THIS: Dear Prudence

August 22nd, 2008

Jane Seymour does some serious smooching with a guy half her age in her new movie Dear Prudence.

But as she tells the TV Fanatic, it’s all in the name of good detective work.

Playing an overworked advice columnist who’s forced on vacation by her boss, Prudence, played by Jane, fills up her free time trying to solve a murder.

She gets a little help from her colleague Nigel (played by cutie British newcomer Ryan Cartwright.)

The May-December liplock happens while the detecting duo is staking out a motel.

“I suddenly grab him kiss him full throttle as a cleaning lady comes by,” says Jane, explaining that Prudence engages in the kiss to help them keep a low profile.

“When Nigel asks isn’t it out of place to be kissing me in the middle of the day, I tell him not in front of a motel,” Jane laughs.

While there’s nothing going on between Prudence and Nigel, Jane says the sparks do fly between Prudence and a local police officer, played by Law & Order: Criminal Intent alum Jamey Sheridan.

“There is a bit of romance,” she teases.

Jane so loved her A-type, over-the-top alter screen-ego, she’s ready to sign the dotted line to launch a Dear Prudence movie franchise.

“[The producers] have already asked me about it,” she confesses. “I love the character. She’s definitely a lot of fun.”

Dear Prudence premieres Saturday, Aug. 23 at 9 p.m. on the Hallmark Channel.

Jane Seymour’s Adivce for Angelina

July 8th, 2008

TV icon Jane Seymour, who once gave birth to twins and is the mother of six, has some advice for Angelina Jolie.

"My advice to her is to put some weight on," the Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman star told OK!. "I think she needs to keep putting on weight so she can feed those babies. I don’t think she should think twice. She hasn’t put on enough weight."

Jolie, whose film Wanted is in theaters now, will soon be mother to six children herself when she gives birth to her twins with Brad Pitt.

Seymour,57, says that when she had her twins, John and Kristopher, in 1995, it was a life threatening delivery.

"I nearly died having the twins," she recalled. "I had preclampsia, which is toxemia, and I had to have an emergency C-section and I almost lost my life. So my advice to her [Jolie] is to listen to your doctors and if they say bed rest and they say blood pressure cuff every hour and they say whatever medication they say, you should take it very seriously."

The Dancing with the Stars alum, who was promoting her upcoming Hallmark Channel TV movie Dear Prudence at the Television Critics Association Event in L.A. on Tuesday, has four biological children as well as two stepchildren with husband James Keach. She told OK! six kids is definitely a handful.

They "need me every day," she laughed.

Helio Races Away With DWTS Trophy

November 28th, 2007 / Author: cwillett

On the Tuesday night finale of Dancing With the Stars, race car driver Helio Castroneves left Spice Girl Mel B. and entertainer extraordinaire Marie Osmond in the dust, as he and pro partner Julianne Hough zoomed away with the championship trophy.

OK! was right there to share in Helio’s joy, as he became the third consecutive male athlete to win the ABC reality show, following football legend Emmitt Smith and last season’s champ, speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno, who also had the good fortune of having Julianne as a partner.

“I really want to jump!” Helio laughed to OK! after winning. “My dream was to become a race car driver and win everything I can — Indy 500 and things like that. And I had the chance to become a dancing star and I’ve won. It’s beyond my dreams.”

But the two-time Indianapolis 500 champ, who charmed America with his bright smile and broken English, admitted he had doubts he’d take home the disco ball trophy. “There were a lot of rumors this morning on the Internet and Web sites that Mel would be the winner and — I call Julianne Ju Ju — I said, ‘Ju, Ju, you know what? We did everything we could.’ That’s why I was really shocked when they called my name because I’m like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding!’ This is crazy! I’m so proud; I’m so happy.”

As for Julianne, the two-time champ told OK!, “This season has been so unpredictable. I think he was definitely the rightful winner, but I had no idea.”

So where will Helio put his DWTS trophy? It’s going to go “between my two Indy trophies, on a big mantle.”

Helio isn’t sure where the DWTS championship will take him. “I’m going to continue racing; that’s what I love most,” he told OK! “Hopefully from this, I can have other opportunities, but right now, racing is what I have in mind.” Helio said his next race will most likely be the Daytona 24 Hours at the end of January.

Also set for January is Helio’s wedding to his fiancée, Ali Vasquez, who works in jewelry design in Miami.

For more on the DWTS winner’s marriage plans, check out OK!’s exclusive interview and photo shoot with Helio and Julianne in the new issue — on newsstands everywhere Thursday.

Meanwhile, runner up Mel B., who performed with Maksim Chmerkovskiy, was gracious in defeat, telling OK! “I thoroughly enjoyed the whole of this thing. I didn’t expect to be in it this long. I want to thank America because they’re the ones who kept us in.” Next up for Mel is the Spice Girls tour: “We have a show on Saturday.”

While Marie opted out of talking to most reporters after her disappointing loss, she told OK! after her widely panned “living doll” routine on Monday’s show that her partner, Jonathan Roberts, was her rock. “I probably wouldn’t have made it through the 10 weeks without this guy. It’s been a really hard 10 weeks and when I’d get discouraged by comments or whatever, he’d say, c’mon, keep going. So, I really wanted to win for him.”

Despite her huge fan base, it was not to be.

Helio’s win seemed almost anticlimactic after a ton of drama on this season’s show, including Marie’s collapse, Jane Seymour’s hospitalization for food poisoning and Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan’s surprise ouster.

Host Tom Bergeron summed up the season for OK!: “It’s been an emotional roller coaster. It became something more than a dance show.”

DWTS Finale: Has Marie Ruined Her Chance to Win?

November 27th, 2007 / Author: cwillett

With only one chance left to impress the judges and the fans at home, the three remaining pairs of finalists had to put everything on the line Monday night on Dancing With the Stars. But Marie Osmond’s decision to go with a “living doll” routine for her final number baffled the panel of judges and some of her fellow competitors. And with Spice Girl Mel B. having an off night in her finale performance, auto-racing champ Helio Castroneves could be in the driver’s seat to win the DWTS trophy Tuesday night.

For better or worse, dark horse competitor Marie and her partner Jonathan Roberts stole the spotlight with their freestyle dance, which featured the heavily made-up singer as a wind-up doll in a little girl’s dress — a tribute to Marie’s popular line of collectible dolls. But it made critics and fellow finalists, like Mel B.’s partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who had already questioned her place in the finale even more outspoken.

“I think she came out trying to do something… Whatever it is, I guess it’s between her and Jonathan. But nobody else knows what it was,” Maks sighed. “I guess it was a big doll company promotion.”

About his earlier comments that Marie had used her personal struggles this season — including her son’s admission to rehab — to win votes, Maks told OK! “I just said what everybody else was thinking. To add to that, Marie is one of those people you can’t find any flaws with. I have nothing but the utmost respect for her. God knows this woman went through a lot this season. But, having said that, this is a dance show.”

Marie’s former competitors also weighed in. Audience member Tony Dovolani (who was eliminated with partner Jane Seymour earlier in the season), told OK! “I thought Marie’s routine was quite disappointing. It was a good idea gone bad. If she had snapped out of that doll thing, I think it would have come through. It was kind of like, when is she going to start dancing? The whole idea is the doll comes to life.” Tony continued, “If Marie wins it, it will be pretty obvious that it’s not about dancing.”

Cameron Mathison, who was eliminated two weeks ago told OK!, “I just was kind of waiting for her to drop the doll persona, then dance and have fun. I think it didn’t come together as well as they’d hoped.”

But for their part, Marie and Jonathan begged to differ. “I liked it! It was a hard routine,” Marie said, proudly showing OK! a bruise on her arm to prove it. “I have a huge doll fan base and I know they’re the ones who have been voting for me, so this was a big thank you to them. It was for all the little kids watching. We could have done something sexy but this is a family show so we tried to keep it fun that way, and I liked the whole premise of the dance.”

Jonathan said Marie deserves to win: “The person who’s won every season has been the one who has improved the most and has gotten the fans behind them. That is the point of the show.”

Helio, who got the top score of the night with partner Julianne Hough for their racing-inspired freestyle routine, diplomatically sidestepped the Marie controversy, telling OK! “I didn’t watch it, to be honest.” Of his own final performance, which earned a near-perfect 29, he said, “I couldn’t have done better.”

Meanwhile, Mel B., whose fellow Spice Girls cheered her on from the audience, left for the group’s rehearsal right after the show, not speaking to the press. But perhaps the judges’ slightly lackluster response was behind her early exit. “I thought we did as good as we could for the time we were given,” Maks said.

Well… there’s not much anyone can do now, except vote and hope for the best for their favorite finalist. Tune in Tuesday night to see if your fave foxtrots off with the trophy!

‘Dancing With the Stars’ Recap

November 26th, 2007 / Author: cwillett

As you rev up (no pun intended) for Monday’s final
performance night of Dancing With the Stars, OK! takes a look back at the
largest and most controversial season yet. From unfortunate deaths to shocking
upsets, season five left everyone talking, so before you chat about who will
win, reminisce on those who didn’t.

Week One: Twelve couples — the largest ensemble yet — hit the
floor to kick off the fifth season of the ABC smash. Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan
and Mark Ballas cha-cha-cha-ed their way to a 26, which goes down in DWTS lore
as the highest first-week score ever.

Result: After being described as “deceptively
unfit” by partner Alec Mazo, model Josie Maran, who received a 16 for their
foxtrot, got the boot, marking the second consecutive season Alec and a model
have left first. Here’s hoping Alec doesn’t get a model next season!

Week Two: Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough pull into first place with a 27
for their mambo, but his achievement was lost amidst all the other talk of the
week. OK!’s resident blogger Jennie Garth took a tumble in her quickstep when
partner Derek Hough tripped on her gown. “We only had one dress rehearsal and I
guess you might say it was a wardrobe malfunction!” she wrote in her blog
afterwards. Jane Seymour sat out the results
show after her mother, Mieke Frankenberg, passed away.

Result: Abercrombie & Fitch hottie Albert Reed and partner Anna Trebunskaya
left to the surprise of the judges and lowest scorer Wayne Newton and Cheryl
Burke
, proving that models have no fan base.

Week Three: It was tight up top with a three-way tie on the leader board —
Melanie Brown, Jane and Sabrina all earned 27s for their dances. But the dance
of the night went to Jennie’s spicy tango, earning her “comeback of the season”
praise from judge Bruno Tonioli and the encore spot.

Result: After looking resigned to
leaving the last week, Wayne and Cheryl finally get the hee-haw.

Week Four: All My Children star Cameron Mathison proved to
be super-hot (in more ways than one) with his Superman-inspired Paso Doble, earning
a 27. But the highest score of the night went to Sabrina and Mark, who got the
first perfect 30 of the season for their own Paso. But trouble brewed when
Carrie Ann Inaba criticized Jane and Tony Dovolani and boxer Floyd Mayweather
and Karina Smirnoff of executing illegal lifts. “I don’t know what she was
thinking. People have been flying through the air for weeks [but] I remember my
feet touching the ground,” Jane tells OK! afterwards, still feeling the sting.

Result: Stung and down for the count — Floyd and Karina, who exited ahead of surprise
bottom two-dwellers Mel and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Week Five: Marie faints! What else was there to talk about? The bubbly
entertainer passed out while awaiting critique from the judges, forcing the
show to cut away to a five-minute commercial. Attributing the tumble to her
asthma and allergies, Marie woke up after a few minutes and declared she was “fine!”
Elsewhere, Mel and Maks rebounded with a high-scoring 29 for their samba.

Result: The earnest and eager Mark Cuban finally met his end on the show. The billionaire’s journey is
a testament to his fan devotion — he stayed through five weeks despite
dangerously low scores every week.

Week Six: Mel and Maks spiced up the floor again, capturing their first perfect
30 for the season and the highest score of the night, and Jane took another bye on results night due to food
poisoning.

Result: Presumed frontrunner Sabrina was eliminated, stunning the
contestants, fans and judges. Not all is lost for the Cheetah Girl — a week
later she admitted she and partner Mark were officially a couple.

Week Seven: It takes two to tango and two dances to stay in! The remaining couples
take the floor twice — with Cheetah paw tattoos in honor of their lost sister —
and Mel and Maks once again come out on top with a total of 54. Five weeks
after Jane’s mother’s death, Marie loses her father, Osmond patriarch George,
and misses the results show as well.

Result: Jane departs after fulfilling a childhood dream of dancing.

Week Eight: After three straight weeks on top, Mel and Maks
relinquished first place to Helio and Julianne, who edged them by one point
with 57.

Result: Despite a two-point advantage over Marie, Cameron and Edyta Sliwinska
said bye-bye — evidence that not even a soap fan base can rival that of the
Osmonds.

Week Nine: Locked in first place are Mel and Maks and Helio and Julianne with each couple receiving a perfect 60 for two dances — a show first.

Result: Last season, Ian Ziering was sent back to 90210 at the semifinals
and the same was true for his former co-star Jennie. The actress, who received
a perfect 30 for her cha-cha-cha and a second encore performance, tearfully left, ensuring Mel, Helio and Marie spots in the final three.

DWTS Claims Its Latest Victim

November 7th, 2007 / Author: OK! Staff

While Jane Seymour may be the latest celebrity hoofer to be eliminated from Dancing With the Stars, the actress tells OK! she wasn’t shocked by the results.

“I kind of thought we were going to be leaving,” Jane admitted to OK! after Tuesday’s results show. “I’m thrilled by the run we had. It’s more than I
ever imagined. I don’t think anyone anticipated anyone of my age lasting this long… I’m by far
the oldest woman ever to do this.”

Like many of the show’s contestants, the grueling training and performance schedule has helped get the 56-year-old beauty into great shape, but now Jane tells OK! she might needs to actually put on some weight! “I lost 22 pounds,” Jane confides. “I went from a size 4-6 to less than a zero. I’ve been trying to [gain weight]. I’ve been eating like a horse.”

Jane faced many trials and tribulations during her time on DWTS. On Oct. 1, her 92-year-old mother passed away. A few weeks later, she told OK! she’d had to temporarily flee her Malibu home, which was threatened by the devastating California fires. And last week Jane was rushed to the hospital with food poisoning.

The consummate professional, Jane continued to perform well through it all. “I learned dancing was really important in my life,” Jane says. “It brings me joy, it’s part of who I am, and I need to continue it for the rest of my life in some form.”

With the writers’ strike leaving Jane’s TV acting career up in the air, she plans to pursue her art projects, charity work, and produce movies with her husband, James Keach. And she’ll go off the “healthy living” diet plan she was following while on DWTS. “I cut out all alcohol [but] tonight I shall be drinking a glass of wine!”

Jane Seymour Talks Food Poisoning, Reveals Plastic Surgery

November 1st, 2007

Jane Seymour is speaking out for the first time to The Insider
since her infamous food poisoning-induced absence from Tuesday night’s Dancing With the Stars results show.

“It was very scary and very painful. There were times
when I was doubled over. It’s embarrassing and I’m sorry,” the 56-year-old
tells the entertainment news program.

Clueless as to the cause of the food poisoning, as she’s
been “eating, eating, eating” to compensate for her 20-pound weight loss, Jane
regrets the “drama” the illness caused and reiterated her reason participating
in the reality competition show.

“I did this because my mom wanted me to do it,” she says. “I
wish this would have happened on Wednesday, no one would have cared!”

Jane and her partner Tony Dovolani earned a 22, Monday
night’s lowest score, for their jive and were believed to be on the chopping
block. Instead, the couple was declared safe early in the program on Tuesday
and it was heavy favorite Sabrina Bryan and her partner Mark Ballas who were
sent packing.

In addition to the food poisoning, Jane and Tony have
also launched barbs at judge Carrie Ann Inaba after she criticized their lifts, but
the actress says she still wants to “get out there and have fun.”

And why not? Whittling 20 pounds off her figure has allowed
Jane to fit into her 12-year-old son’s jeans. “They fit better than mine!”

Also on the subject of looking good, the former Dr. Quinn,
Medicine Woman
star admits to using botox and having plastic surgery for her
eyes and breasts. Jane, who notoriously flashed Owen Wilson her enhanced
breasts in Wedding Crashers, got the special treatment when it came to her décolletage.

The “extra small” implants had to be “specially
ordered.”

For more on Jane, tune into The Insider on Thursday!

DWTS Shocker! Sabrina Eliminated!

October 31st, 2007 / Author: cwillett

In perhaps the most shocking twist in the history of Dancing With the Stars, Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan was high-kicked off the hit show Tuesday night!

After apparently too few viewers voted for the assumed front-runner, Sabrina’s shocked fellow contestants surrounded the petite singer and partner Mark Ballas backstage to offer hugs and condolences.

“It’s sad to go,” Sabrina told OK! following the Oct. 30 show. “We’re not ready to go. We had so many ideas. I have such amazing fans — I’m assuming they called in and it just wasn’t enough this week.”

The perpetually upbeat performer also plans to throw an
elimination bash with her fellow contestants. “I’m going to make more memories
with them tonight, because I’m going out. This Cheetah is on the prowl
tonight!”

Sabrina, who has been romantically linked to dance partner, hinted that the elimination might bring them even closer. “I’m happy Mark and I now get to just be friends, to know each other and not have the stress of the show.”

Next up for the young cutie, who tells OK! she really wants a woman to win this season, is a Cheetah Girls concert tour and a movie, The
Cheetah Girls Go to Bollywood
, set to start filming in India in
January. But what is she most looking forward to after six weeks of competition? “A massage!” Sabrina laughed to OK!.

Meanwhile, Sabrina’s stunned DWTS co-stars weighed in. “I think they need to recount the votes,” declared Mel B., while Mel’s dance partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, tells OK!, “This is the most shocking elimination show of all the seasons.”

While shock swirled through the ballroom after the show, there was additional drama, as a bad case of food poisoning landed Jane Seymour in the hospital and prevented her from attending the elimination show. Her partner Tony Dovolani told OK! “She’s still in the hospital just to be safe, just to check herself. I’ve spoken to her. She’s feeling great. I have no idea [what she ate].”

Judging Scandal on Dancing With the Stars?

October 30th, 2007 / Author: cwillett

Is age-ism rampant on the Dancing With the Stars judging panel? Well, contestant Marie Osmond tells OK! that the show’s older women might be getting the shaft on the hit ABC show.

“I think they’re trying to get the older chicks off the show, and I say shame on them,” Marie said to OK! after she and fellow over-50 contestant Jane Seymour earned the lowest scores of the night on Monday night. “I mean, come on — compare us to a 20-year-old! We’re doing good! That’s why you appreciate the viewers and their voting.”

Just one week after her shocking on-air collapse, Marie earned just 23 points for her paso doble. Meanwhile, Jane got 22, the lowest score of the night, for her performance of the jive.

While Jane has never cited age discrimination as her problem on the show, she is perplexed about the judging. And her devoted husband, James Keach, who sits in the audience every night, can’t believe what he is seeing. “Her dance deserved a much better score than it got,” James told OK!. “If I gave you my true opinion of the other dancers, I wouldn’t be a popular guy here tonight. I’m very honest.”

Referring to her competitors, All My Children hunk Cameron Mathison and Marie Osmond, James said, “I’m not voting because I watch a soap opera; I’m not voting because I watch the Donny and Marie Show; I’m obviously a little prejudiced towards my wife, but you know what? For the amount of work that she’s done, the ability that she’s given to this and the class that she brings to it, I don’t think there’s any comparison.”

Jane added that she has less dance experience than some of the other competitors. “There are some people here who dance for a living,” she said, in an apparent reference to limber Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan and Spice Girl Mel B., who both are getting ready for concert tours.
