Mel Gibson Confirms Baby Rumor

May 26th, 2009

After several weeks of speculation, a rep for Mel Gibson has confirmed reports that the Oscar-winning actor and director is soon to be the father of another child — his first with recently revealed girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

The rumors had been circulating for weeks that Mel — already a father to seven children with not-quite-ex-wife Robyn — and Oksana, who has a son with former James Bond actor Timothy Dalton, were expecting, and it looks like the actor actually dropped the bombshell himself during a pre-taped interview for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. "I guess I’m ‘Octo-Mel!’" he joked.

In the interview, scheduled to air this week, Mel also gets candid about the recent end of his marriage of 28 years.

"My wife and I, our marriage ended three years ago, and we’ve been separated ever since then," he explains. "These things happen. It’s unfortunate, it’s sad, but you know she is an admirable woman… When it’s all said and done, I did a pretty good hatchet job on my marriage myself. I’m to blame. If you’re inclined to judge, put it here."

Will Ferrell Helps Conan Kick Things Off

May 18th, 2009

When the big handover of The Tonight Show occurs next month, with Jay Leno stepping aside for Conan O’Brien at the desk, funnyman Will Ferrell will be right there to help.

NBC announced today that Will is set to be Conan’s first guest on the couch, and Pearl Jam will appear as the first band under his watch.

Conan is slated to be Jay’s last guest as the new era is ushered in, with the first Conan-helmed show taking place on June 1. Jay has been the host of Tonight for 17 years, and will step down on May 29.

Is it Time for 30 Barack?

May 14th, 2009

Ask most TV actors who they’d love to have do a cameo on their show and you’ll hear a who’s who of A-list names like Brad Pitt, Kate Winslet or Russell Crowe, but all those superstars pale in comparison to the name on the top of 30 Rock star Jane Krakowski’s list.

"I keep saying we’ve just got to get [Barack] Obama," she reveals to Eonline.com. "We’ve had Steve Martin. We’ve had Oprah. We’ve had Jerry Seinfeld. We’ve had all these great musical greats. Let’s just go for the big guns now."

And those aren’t the only huge names that have popped in for a guest spot. Just this season alone, Jennifer Aniston made a memorable appearance as Tina Fey’s possibly insane party-girl pal, and Salma Hayek had a recurring role as Alec Baldwin’s love interest.

As for landing Barack, Jane thinks it might be easier than people imagine. "I always say, ‘He was on The Tonight Show, so he’s part of the NBC family,’" she laughs. "He might want to just come by."

Jay Leno Returns to TV

April 28th, 2009

Jay Leno wasn’t about to let a case of what he calls the chills keep him from his Tonight Show hosting duties, as he returned to TV last night after a brief hospital visit.

"I was freezing and I got chills, and here at NBC we have an `ODN,’ overly dramatic nurse," Leno said, who added that he drove to work that day without a jacket in one of his vinatage cars. The nurse took his temperature and pressured him to go to the hospital. He walked over to nearby Providence St. Joseph Medical Centeron Thursday and was checked in for an unspecified ailment, although he revealed he had a 103-degree fever.

He also joked about an incident involving a man claiming to be a Jesuit priest, who tried to enter his hospital room. NBC then posted security outside his hotel room.

"So now I’m like in The Godfather," Leno told the audience, referring to the scene in which Marlon Brando’s wounded mob boss is protected from his would-be assassins. "It’s so stupid. But anyway, we’re back and we’re not gonna be canceling any more shows or appearances."

Leno’s replacement on the Tonight Show, Conan O’Brien, who takes over in July, also came by. At the hospital, Leno said, "I had a horrible dream that I couldn’t breathe. I felt like I was suffocating … then I woke up and realized Conan was holding a pillow over my face."

Hey Jay Leno — if you needed a long weekend, just ask!

The talk show legend is getting a small vacation as he’s at home resting up after checking himself into Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center yesterday.

In a statement to E! News a rep for NBC confirmed the good news. "We are happy to say that Jay Leno is feeling much better and has been released from the hospital. He’s anxious to return to work on Monday."

According to the story, Jay’s publicist says the Tonight Show host’s overnight stay was "for observation purely as a precautionary measure."

Talk show legend Jay Leno was forced to cancel the taping of Thursday night’s Tonight Show after being hosptalized for an undisclosed illness.

“He took himself to the hospital because he wasn’t feeling well,” a rep for the funnyman told Access Hollywood “A repeat of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno will air tonight."

Neither the cause nor extent of Jay’s illness has been made public, though insiders tell OK! that food poisoning is believed to be the culprit. Also, NBC announced a decision on when taping will resume on the long-running late-night talk show.

Jay is slated to step down from his Tonight Show hosting gig this summer as Conan O’Brien makes the move to one of the most coveted jobs in TV.

Leno’s Plan To Turn Town’s Frown Upside Down

April 21st, 2009

The economy may be bringing entire towns to their knees — but Jay Leno thinks that we might as well enjoy ourselves while it’s happening.

The Tonight host is planning his second Comedy Stimulus show, this time for the thousands of people in Ohio who have been laid off by the courier DHL.

The do-gooder star — who did a similar performance for newly jobless auto workers in Detroit earlier this month — has said the community of Wilmington, near Dayton, has been devastated by the cuts.

And he’s off to try and put a smile back on its face with the appearance on May 10.

According to the Rockford Register Star, DHL Express announced last year that it was planning to pull out of Wilmington Air Park, leaving two thirds of Wilmington unemployed.

It was just announced they are moving the operation to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, more than 50 miles away.
