Stress to Blame for Jennifer Connelly’s Weight Loss

January 7th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Jennifer Connelly is undoubtedly one of the most gorgeous actresses in Hollywood. But lately, recent reports have focused on Connelly’s sudden weight loss, which have people wondering if the He’s Just Not That Into You star is okay.

At Monday’s 20th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival, Connelly’s husband, British actor Paul Bettany, finally addressed the weight loss rumors.

"I will tell you… My wife just lost her father," he explained to OK!.

Bettany, who presented the Rising Star Award to his The Secret Life of Bees co-star Dakota Fanning, did not attend tonight’s event with his wife.

Bettany and Connelly have two children, Stellan, 5, and Kai, 11, Connelly’s son from a previous relationship.

Stars Roll Out For ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’

December 10th, 2008

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith certainly know how to make a scene. The married movie stars dually shun and invite the spotlight during their son Jaden’s premiere for The Day The Earth Stood Still, held Tuesday at AMC Loews Lincoln Center in NYC.  The remake of the 1951 sci-fi thriller is in theaters Friday.

As Linkin Park’s Breaking The Habit and Living Colour’s Cult of Personality blare, the threesome take turns dashing into a crowd of autograph seekers — a trick my WPLJ pal Brad Blanks calls “the old Hollywood duck-and-run.” As Jada heads into the fan pit, Will returns.

“I’m here so my son can show me up, but I’m going to step back tonight,” Will says. “You guys are going to get me into trouble. I’m not supposed to talk to you. I’m letting him do his thing.”

Is Jaden, 10, giving Will competition?

“You know better than that,” Jada says shyly, standing ten feet away from reporters before moving up to gush about her son.

“As a mom, it’s hard when you put your son in a classic and you hope he can be part of the group to make the movie work again,” she says. “You always try to make it better than the classic, and that’s what is very difficult, because that’s what makes it a classic. But he had a great time and I’m very proud of him.”

Switch! As Jada heads into the theater, Jaden captures the spotlight. Does he feel like a star tonight?

“Not really,” he says. “Sometimes I don’t feel like that.”

Keanu Reeves
steps up, and his charm immediately puts me on his side. He accidentally slams his hand into my recorder as he’s telling a story, but makes no fuss. A reporter asks if there are elements of a certain religion practiced by TomKat in this tale.

“Maybe in the beginning it’s a little more alien-infused, but the Scientology element is happening as well,” Keanu says.

After making this movie, both stars Jennifer Connelly (whose legs are like toothpicks) and Jon Hamm believe in alien encounters.

“I think there’s probably some form of life elsewhere in the universe, given the scale of the universe,” Balenciaga-wearing Jennifer says.

Golden Globe winner Jon agrees. “I just think the numbers are too big,” the Mad Men star, who is accompanied by girlfriend of ten years Jennifer Westfeldt, tells me. “There’s too many stars and planets and people and things out there. There’s gotta be something on top of them.”

Who would Ms. Connelly trust to save the world?

“I wish Obama a lot of luck. Or my kids – they’re pretty clever.”

Director Scott Derrickson fuels my newfound interest in Keanu.

“He’s a pretty serious person with a lot on his mind,” Scott says.

Apparently, The Matrix star is a voracious reader.

“He reads more than anybody I’ve ever met,” he tells me. “It was something new every time, because every time I’d see him, he’d finished the last book he had. He reads a lot of fiction, historical fiction, some straight history, science fiction. I saw him go through many genres in the short time I’ve been with him making this movie.”

Another selling point? Keanu is always on time.

“He’s extraordinarily punctual, and he’s extraordinarily prepared,” he says. “Actors are all over the map on that front, and some of them can be very undisciplined and some of them can do what they want because they’re movie stars. He’s really the opposite extreme of that. He has an extraordinary work ethic. I never found myself ever needing to push him along to get him to work harder.”

Sounds good!

The Day The Earth Stood Still is in theaters Friday.

Mark Ruffalo’s First Baby Sighting

November 2nd, 2007

It was a family reunion of sorts on Thursday.

Mark Ruffalo and his wife, SunriseSunnyCoigney, took their newborn daughter out for some, well, sunshine yesterday afternoon. The couple wound up at the Chateau Marmont hotel for lunch with Sunshine’s aunt and uncle, where, of all the hotels in all the world, Jennifer Connelly, Mark’s Reservation Road co-star, walked in, an eyewitness tells OK!.

“Mark stood up excitedly and waved his napkin from side to side through the window and said, “Jennifer!” the source tells OK!.

The two hugged it out before Mark, 39, introduced the Oscar winner to his clan, including his baby girl, who was hidden in a blue baby carrier.

While his daughter, who was born late last month, snoozed, the actor decided to play catch-up with Jennifer, 36, chatting with her and an unidentified male at her table.

“Mark was nibbling some of Jennifer’s French fries and sipping ice water as they sat together,” the source says.

Perhaps they’re discussing another joint project?

Reservation Road is in theaters now.

Jennifer Connelly & Paul Bettany’s Date Night

October 17th, 2007

Red carpet events are not only good for chic fashion, but for date nights too!

Jennifer Connelly
and husband Paul Bettany stepped out Monday night at ELLE Magazine’s 14th Annual Women in Hollywood party, and the couple joked to OK! their alone time has been reduced to high-wattage get-togethers.

“We only see each other at these events!” Jennifer laughs.

Getting serious, the Oscar winner says their selective film schedules
allow for plenty of time together. “We don’t do that many films each
year and I like to stagger as much as possible so that we can visit
each other when we’re working and we can visit each other’s respective
sets,” she tells OK!. “It takes a bit of planning and scheduling
with the kids [Stellan, 4, and Kai, 10, her son from a previous
relationship], but it’s worked out.”

Jennifer, 36, was one of the many female stars feted at the event
honoring women’s achievement in film, and says she would love to one
day share the screen with the one and only Meryl Streep.

“She’s just luminous and I think that she’s in a league of her own. She’s really extraordinary!”

Jennifer Connelly Tries Not to Bring the Office Home

October 8th, 2007

In Reservation Road, Jennifer Connelly’s character faces every parent’s worst nightmare — losing their child. Being a mom, the heavy role was difficult for the Oscar winner to tackle, she said at the film’s New York premiere on Thursday.

“Consciously, I really strive not to bring my work home with me. I really try to be very vigilant and not think about my children in the sort of context that you see,” Jennifer said.

The 36-year-old has two children, Kai, 10, with ex David Dugan, and Stellan, 4, with husband Paul Bettany. She adds that it’s “inevitable” for any parent to feel uncomfortable with such a dismal subject. “It’s about being a mom and my children and looking over my shoulder, and it’s so important to me as a person and so many things happened that I’ve never experienced.”

How deeply did the part disrupt her life?

“I’m a champion sleeper and I had a hard time sleeping, my jaw was locking up and I was having nightmares,” Jennifer said. “So it really affected me even though I tried my hardest not to let it.”
