Is it Time for 30 Barack?

May 14th, 2009

Ask most TV actors who they’d love to have do a cameo on their show and you’ll hear a who’s who of A-list names like Brad Pitt, Kate Winslet or Russell Crowe, but all those superstars pale in comparison to the name on the top of 30 Rock star Jane Krakowski’s list.

"I keep saying we’ve just got to get [Barack] Obama," she reveals to Eonline.com. "We’ve had Steve Martin. We’ve had Oprah. We’ve had Jerry Seinfeld. We’ve had all these great musical greats. Let’s just go for the big guns now."

And those aren’t the only huge names that have popped in for a guest spot. Just this season alone, Jennifer Aniston made a memorable appearance as Tina Fey’s possibly insane party-girl pal, and Salma Hayek had a recurring role as Alec Baldwin’s love interest.

As for landing Barack, Jane thinks it might be easier than people imagine. "I always say, ‘He was on The Tonight Show, so he’s part of the NBC family,’" she laughs. "He might want to just come by."

Seinfeld’s Back in the Comedy Saddle

February 26th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

For the first time since Seinfeld wrapped in 1998, funny man Jerry Seinfeld is making his first big TV comeback with new unscripted comedy series The Marriage Ref.

Partnered with Oprah Winfrey Show executive producer Ellen Rakieten, Jerry has created a show in which "opinionated celebrities, comedians and sports stars … will candidly comment, judge and offer different strategies for real-life couples in the midst of a classic marital dispute."

The comedian is quick to add that, "This is not a therapy show, it’s a comedy show." Jerry first pitched his idea to NBC’s Ben Silverman, who said, "We were laughing the whole time as [Jerry and Ellen] went through the concept. As Jerry noted, some of the greatest comedies in history have been about marriage."

NBC has ordered six episodes of the series, but has not yet alloted it a timeslot or premiere date.

The comedian cites his own experience as inspiration for the show. "After nine years of marriage, I have discovered that the comedic potential of this subject is quite rich," Jerry said.

OK!’s Top Celebrity Meltdowns

February 6th, 2009

Now that Christian Bale has apologized for his on-set screaming frenzy, we thought we’d revisit some of the all-time great celebrity meltdowns that have been recorded for posterity.

And some of these contain some very explicit language — so don’t say you weren’t warned!

Seinfeld Scorned By Larry King

This isn’t the most explosive outburst. But it’s made our list because it’s quite shocking to see that charming Jerry Seinfeld who we all grew to know and love getting all snippy with Larry King because he fails to fully realize how massively important Seinfeld was.

It also deserves a mention because, in this 2007 interview, the comic actually utters the legendary motto of all narked stars: "Do you know who I am?"

Chris Martin gives the BBC the ‘Cold’ shoulder

Far from being flattered that someone was treating his music as if it were high art, Coldplay’s Chris Martin inexplicably storms out of this 2008 interview, accusing the terribly proper English reporter of behaving like a common hack.

Alec Baldwin shows some less-than-tip-top parenting skills

This 2007 answer machine message from 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin would be pretty distressing — even if it weren’t being left on the cell phone of his 11-year-old daughter, who hadn’t turned it on for a pre-arranged call from her dad.

But at least they’re pals again now.

O’Reilly Gets Riled Up

Right-wing pundit Bill O’Reilly usually lets his anger out as righteous indignation. But on this vintage clip he just has a good old (and very swear-y) hissy fit.

Andy Kaufman and Jerry Lawler Come To Blows

Now from the anger archives, here’s a TV confrontation that spilled over into violence. In 1982, pro wrestler Jerry Lawler had enough of comic Andy Kaufman’s lip on Letterman, and gave him a good smack in the chops to show it.

No one screws with Cruise!

Tom Cruise has become something of a master of the onscreen meltdown. We all know the Oprah ‘incident’, and the Matt Lauer row. But here’s a lesser know gem, this time with Tom going off on a British prankster in 2005.

When directors attack

Compared to the way director David O. Russell speaks to actress Lily Tomlin in this leaked tape, Christian Bale sounds like he was just giving out some friendly advice. These too went at it on the set of I Heart Huckabees in 2004.

Akon throws child

As Akon well knows, nothing expresses your displeasure like throwing a teenager. This clip from 2007 earned him the nickname Akoncussion in some circles.

The Bale-out

And finally, the foul-mouthed freak-out that has coined the term the "Bale-out".

Jerry Seinfeld Remembers George Carlin

June 24th, 2008

George Carlin was a "monster" who "downright invented modern American stand-up," according to Jerry Seinfeld.

In a touching op-ed piece in Tuesday’s New York Times, Jerry paid tribute to his late mentor, the irreverent groundbreaking comedian who broke all the rules in comedy and set standards high for future talent.

"Every comedian does a little George," he writes. "I couldn’t even count the number of times I’ve been standing around with some comedians and someone talks about some idea for a joke and another comedian would say, “Carlin does it.” I’ve heard it my whole career: ‘Carlin does it,’ ‘Carlin already did it,’ ‘Carlin did it eight years ago.’"

The way George did it though is what’s notable, Jerry says. So brilliant was he that he often "made you sorry you ever thought you wanted to be a comedian."

"He worked over an idea like a diamond cutter with facets and angles and refractions of light," he says. "He was like a train hobo with a chicken bone. When he was done there was nothing left for anybody."

Having idolized him since the ’60s, the 54-year-old says "the whole world was funny" thanks to George. They developed a close friendship over the years, and Jerry spoke to the comedian just nine days before his passing, joking about how death comes in groups.

"We were talking about Tim Russert and Bo Diddley and George said: ‘I feel safe for a while. There will probably be a break before they come after the next one. I always like to fly on an airline right after they’ve had a crash. It improves your odds.’"

He continues, "I know George didn’t believe in heaven or hell. Like death, they were just more comedy premises. And it just makes me even sadder to think that when I reach my own end, whatever tumbling cataclysmic vortex of existence I’m spinning through, in that moment I will still have to think, ‘Carlin already did it.’"

Stars Primp For ‘Sex And The City’ Premiere

May 30th, 2008

Sarah Jessica Parker sparkles at the Sex and the City: The Movie premiere held at Radio City Music Hall in NYC.

“The best part of doing this movie is being back with my best friends again,” she tells reporters. “The sexiest part about tonight is being with you — and all those people.”

The massive crowd gathered across the street certainly deserves the love. Umbrellas perched, the devotees wait through a fierce downpour – and every single woman is dressed up just like Carrie Bradshaw herself. Talk about an ego boost!

While Kim Cattrall strikes a cute pose alone, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon dash into the theater together.

The girls’ significant others fly solo. After posing for photos, Sarah Jessica’s super-sweet hubby Matthew Broderick climbs over the velvet rope and slinks off the pink carpet. After all, this is her night to shine. On the other hand, Kim’s chef boyfriend, Alan Wyse, chats it up. Cynthia’s girlfriend, Christine Marioni, enters an hour earlier. She’s wearing a beige men’s suit!

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, who plays Carrie’s assistant, makes a pit stop. She has really slimmed down. Impressive! What did she love about the show? “They talk about real things that we all go through.” And, what does she think about the new American Idol David Cook? “I love David Cook but I felt Archuleta should’ve won,” she says. “At this point, they’re both the bomb.”

Fergie, whose tune Labels And Love is the theme of the movie, shows off her engagement bling. How many carats? “I’m not telling,” she jokes. “Guess.” What’s the story behind the song? “It’s a love triangle between fashion, friends, plus love.” Wait, where’s fiancé Josh Duhamel? Home sick! : (

Here come the guys.

What was the sexiest part of making the film? “We got to do it so many times,” Chris “Mr. Big” Noth says.

David Eigenberg can’t believe this movie was made. “I’ve been on the record saying this day would never, ever happen, and it has. I was wrong! Happily I can admit I was wrong.”

Jason Lewis is thrilled to be back with the cast. “It was fun,” he says. “I actually had everyone out for a barbeque. It’s always family.”

Willie Garson, who plays SJP’s gay best friend, slides through. “I love cosmos,” he says.

Donald and Melania Trump make their entrance. Ivanka’s stepmom confesses she loves the SATC style, and Donald says the flick is “great for New York.” … Oh, there’s Jerry Seinfeld and wife Jessica waving. Hi guys! … Idina Menzel is thrilled to be here tonight. … Get this: Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams says she’s holding a Sex and the City viewing party, like millions of women around the world. … Donna Karan gives a thumbs up when asked if the SATC women inspire her fashion. …

Lauren Bush, with much older boyfriend David Lauren, won’t talk about cousin Jenna’s wedding, but says she’s well-rounded like Carrie. Emmy Rossum also gives a shoutout to Carrie. “She’s effortlessly cool,” she says. Whoa. Dean Winters loves Carrie, too. “I was Carrie’s **** buddy, so I’m biased. She’s my favorite.” … Surprise, surprise. Lydia Hearst is a Carrie girl. “Every girl in her life goes through heartbreak and hard work and has to overcome obstacles,” she says. “She is definitely the strongest of the characters.” Meanwhile, Lil’ Kim says Samantha is her type. Yep!

It’s showtime. My friend Doree and I are in row Q, a few rows behind Sarah Jessica, Kim, Kristin and Cynthia. Oh, look, there’s Mario Cantone! The movie is great. Get this: On the way out, we bump into Gilles Marini, who is taking photos for revelers. (Spoiler alert: He’s Dante, the guy with the hot shower scene.) How funny. The swoon-worthy actor dropped by the OK! office last week. Jason Lewis Charms at the ‘Sex and the City’ Afterparty.

Sex and the City: The Movie is in theaters now.

Stars Kick Off Tribeca Film Festival Vanity Fair-Style

April 30th, 2008

There is no tip sheet for the Vanity Fair Tribeca Film Festival party — which is typically a bad sign — but reporters brush that notion aside for the kickoff soiree held at the State Supreme Courthouse in NYC. After all, it is Vanity Fair, and they host the Oscar party.

While Madonna and Mariah Carey are in town for the Festival, they clearly have other plans tonight. But Jerry Seinfeld and wife Jessica, David Bowie and Iman, James Gandolfini and girlfriend, John McEnroe and his Angie Harmon lookalike wife Patty Smyth and Russell Simmons and his gal pal head up the steps and into the party.

Waiting on the inside is a dinner of leafy green salad with light vinaigrette, chicken pot pie and roasted carrots — capped off with a dessert of warm chocolate soufflé cake, fresh berries and vanilla ice cream. Pretty lime green shamrock chrysanthemums, green tea roses and princess Irene roses fill the space, and the sounds of Don’t Know Why by Norah Jones and FugeesKilling Me Softly fill the air.

Here’s Regis Philbin, accompanied by wife Joy. What does he love about this party? “They’ve got an old building and it’s all dolled up,” friendly Reege says. “It’s very New York. There’s a lot of energy.”

Martha Stewart won’t get political while the Pennsylvania primaries are in motion. “It’s very, very close,” she says. Who is she rooting for? “I’ll tell you tomorrow.” But Oprah’s BFF Gayle King is loud and proud. “I got a crush on Obama,” she sings as she crosses her fingers. “And the exit polls look good!”

Chazz Palminteri brings Gianna, his wife of “twenty years,” as his date. Why are they a good match? “We’re two people who really care about each other. We fight, but we want to hang out with each other. And we like making up.”

Billy Crystal, Larry David and Harvey Keitel move through when designer Zac Posen gasps. “What do I say to OK! Magazine?”

Here is John Leguizamo and his wife Justine. He flashes a peace sign, a la Miley Cyrus.

Why do they make a good couple? “I’m Latin and she’s Jewish,” he tells me. “It’s the most perfect blend of people. We’re both neurotic, we’re both passionate, we’re both intense.”

Sigourney Weaver says “I’ll see you tomorrow,” just as Angelica Huston breezes through. Oh, Zoe Kravitz is here! Good times. I chat with Drena De Niro, who tells me her dad – and Tribeca Film Festival founder — Robert makes a great grandfather. (He plays Candyland and Chutes and Ladders with her son. How sweet!)

Padma Lakshmi admits she has no diet tips to share, but Liam Neeson’s wife Natasha Richardson charms with her lilting British accent. “Vanity Fair throws a good party,” she says.

We’re waiting on Clive Owen when word arrives he’s a “maybe” at the end of the evening. It’s not even day one of the jampacked Tribeca Film Festival. Gotta conserve the energy.

Pick up the OK! on newsstands this week for more coverage of the Tribeca Film Festival. “Angelina and Brad’s Wedding of the Year” is the cover line.

While You Were Sleeping

Jessica Simpson shaves — her face? The older-but-probably-not-wiser Simpson will appear on the cover of Esquire magazine next week recreating a March 1965 cover image featuring Marilyn Monroe lookalike, actress Virna Lisi, covered in shaving cream. The original cover was a spoof on women’s liberation, reports Gatecrasher.

Beatles or Rolling Stones? It turns out Paul McCartney’s four-year-old daughter with Heather Mills, Beatrice, is way into the Stones over daddy’s old band. The precocious tot was spotted picking out clothes with her nanny in New York over the weekend and selected a dress, a striped tank and a Rolling Stones tee shirt, reports Page Six.

Jerry Seinfeld should stay off the road. The “nothing” comedian got into trouble last week when his Fiat flipped in the Hamptons, and just days later his Porsche broke down in Greenwich Village. Comic pal Colin Quinn joked on the Opie & Anthony radio show that he was tired of giving Seinfeld “the old jump-start.” Must be rough.
