Nick Cannon: No Longer A Kept Man!

March 24th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

The good news for rapper Nick “Mr. Mariah Carey” Cannon?

He has his first steady gig since wedding the pop queen last April — replacing Jerry Springer as host of NBC’s America’s Got Talent.

The bad news? The missus is miffed.

“Mariah has made it clear she isn’t pleased,” an insider tells OK!. “She doesn’t understand why Nick needs to work. She has enough money for the two of them.”

And that’s the problem. The source says 28-year-old Nick’s kept-man status has left him feeling stifled. Tired of arguing over work, Mariah, 40, relented, “but said Nick shouldn’t
expect her to pay for things” anymore, says the source.

Maybe that’s why Nick’s credit card was denied on a $113 tab at Caroline’s comedy club in NYC on March 14, according to a witness, who joked, “Mariah cut his ass off!”

Nick Cannon to Host America’s Got Talent

February 9th, 2009

It takes a certain amount of talent to host a TV show, and NBC thinks Nick Cannon is up to the job – Mariah Carey’s husband has just signed on to emcee America’s Got Talent after Jerry Springer announced he wouldn’t be back for the fourth season.

"I’m thrilled to be working with NBC," Nick says of his new gig, adding that those at the network "understand my vision as not only an entertainer but as a creative show producer."

Nick will be backed by judges Sharon Osbourne, David Hasselhoff and Piers Morgan when the show returns this summer. The actor/musician has some big shoes to fill– besides Springer (who had cited commitments to his own show and a stage role as his reasons for leaving) Regis Philbin has also held the title of host.

"I look forward to working with the network and their executive team on America’s Got Talent and other shows to come," says Nick, who will be working on additional projects with NBC as well.

Jerry Springer Offers Obama Advice!

June 6th, 2008

Jerry Springer is no stranger to the world of politics. Back before he was the host of TV’s naughtiest talk show, he was the mayor of Cincinnati. So when we caught up with the TV legend, we asked if he had any advice for newly crowned Democratic nominee Barack Obama.

"He needs to just keep doing what he’s doing." Jerry told OK! at Bravo’s A-list Awards. "I would like to see him choose Hillary Clinton as his running mate. I don’t know that he will do that. But in any event, his instincts have been great. He shouldn’t let the system corrupt him and he should keep those strong ideals that he has."

Jerry also waxed patriotic. He said, "I think it’s a wonderful statement for America that we have had the last five months with an African-American and a woman running. I think it’s remarkable."

America is definitely something Jerry has on his mind. As the host of America’s Got Talent he sees the best, and well the worst, of what Americans have to offer! "I can tell you from having done the auditions already that the quality of the talent is exceptional," he said. "So there are some really phenomenal acts."

But if you’re one of those people who like the train wrecks, Jerry promises there’s plenty of that too! "I mean there’s some acts that are hard to watch but some are phenomenal and I think people are going to enjoy the show this year," he said.

Jerry Springer: “I Want to Apologize”

May 15th, 2008

Jerry Springer is probably most known as the trashy talk show host of The Jerry Springer Show. But when Springer tried his hand as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars, viewers got to see a whole new side of the TV personality.

Now the former mayor of Cincinnati, defense attorney and America’s Got Talent judge is opening up about his reformed image to Parade.com’s Jeanne Wolf. The first thing Springer wants to clear up is the motivation behind his self-titled show.

"I want to apologize for it," Springer says of The Jerry Springer Show. "Sometimes I think I should just have a show called ‘I’m sorry.’ My show could be a lot more successful if it were publically acceptable. Believe me, you make a lot more money if you’re Oprah or Ellen."

Springer adds, "I get really stirred up when people call other people trash and I kind of almost enjoy it in a sick way. Obviously, I’m not the only one."

When it comes to his job as a judge on America’s Got Talent, Jerry says, "It sounds corny but it really is the All-American show because you don’t have to be rich, you don’t have to be famous, you don’t have to live in Hollywood. It’s just ordinary people living all over the country who did things like singing into a hairbrush in front of the mirror. They’re just regular folks and it’s refreshing."

As for his own talent, Jerry says he’s definitely lacking. "I don’t have any talent. There’s no one who would pick me and say ‘You should be in show business’, and yet I’ve been lucky and successful at it. People can relate to me probably because I’m a schlub just like everybody else, just a regular person going to work in the morning."
