DJ AM Wants $20 Million for Jet Crash

March 17th, 2009

If you survived a horrific jet crash and sustained burn injuries, you’d probably be suing mad, too. TMZ reports that DJ AM is angry at the company that booked the ill-fated flight to the tune of $20 million—and that’s the minimum.

The musician claims he wants $10 million for his medical bills, lost earnings and profits and other things that kept him from making his own money. The other cool $10 mil will go to soothe the mental and physical pain and suffering and other, "non-economic losses."

DJ AM’s Second Close Call

March 11th, 2009

UPDATE: TMZ is now reporting that DJ AM’s rep say he was never scheduled to fly on flight 3407. His rep tells TMZ: "DJ AM was never booked on the Continental flight that crashed last month, in fact he was performing that evening in NYC. That crash nor the one he was involved in, has prevented him from flying — although he has tremendously scaled back his east coast residencies to focus on his recovery."

DJ AM was already lucky to survive one jet crash in his lifetime, along with Travis Barker, just last September, and now it seems his luck held out at least one more time: The muscian was originally scheduled to fly on Continental Flight 3407, which crashed into a house near Buffalo, N.Y. and killed 50 people in February.

TMZ reports that DJ AM, real name Adam Goldberg, was booked on the flight but canceled and drove instead, after having a bad feeling about the flight. The site says his flying days are over, and from now on only gigs that he can drive to will be on his schedule.

DJ AM and Travis were the only two who survived a Learjet crash that killed four others on Sept. 20. Both suffered burns from the incident.

Travis Barker Comes Home

October 20th, 2008

Travis Barker has been ready to leave the L.A. burn center where he’s been receiving treatment since the September plane crash that took the lives of four others, including his assistant and bodyguard, and now the drummer finally gets to go home.

He’ll continue treatment for his burns at home and is expected to recover fully from the second- and third-degree burns he sustained in the crashover the coming months, according to reports.

"I can’t wait to get out of here," Travis had posted on his MySpace blog. "The doctors say I’m healing quickly."

DJ AM, real name Adam Goldstein, was the only other survivor of the accident and was released last month. He’s been out and about L.A. lately, including DJ’ing a gig on Oct. 14 for Jay-Z.

Doctor: DJ AM and Travis Barker Will Recover

September 22nd, 2008

After surviving a jet crash that left four others dead in South Carolina, Travis Barker and DJ AM (real name Adam Goldestein) are expected to fully recover from the second- and third-degree burns they sustained in the incident on Saturday, says Dr. Fred Mullins, executive director at the Joseph Still Burn Center in Augusta, Ga., according to CNN.com.

Travis, who was burned on his torso and lower body, and DJ AM, who suffered burns on his arm and head, could still be hospitalized for weeks after the crash. Investigators are now looking into whether a blown tire could have contributed to the crash.

TMZ also reports that a source  says DJ AM is "ambulatory and in good spirits."

The four dead have been identified as pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, Calif., co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, Calif., Travis’s assistant, Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, Calif., and Charles Still, 25, of L.A., Calif.

Air traffic controllers reportedly  "saw sparks coming from the runway" before the crash.  Investigators don’t know if that was from the aircraft or its engines.

South Carolina resident, William Owens, was driving down a highway next to the airport when he said he saw a fireball go across the road.  He told local TV station WIS News 10:

"I didn’t know what I had seen – it was maybe 800 feet in front of me, but as I approached it closer though I made out the fire.  By then I was able to see the tail of the jet and I recognized it as a jet," Owens said.  "[the plane] It’s in flames and the fuel is running across the road and I had to cross the highway."

According to Owens, two men (presumably Travis and DJ AM) were running around and stripping down to extinguish themselves.  He said he asked the men if there was anyone else on board the plane and they told him there had been four more with them.

"We turned to the jet to try and see if there was anything we could do, but immediately, there was nothing anyone could do," Owens said.

Barker and AM were in Columbia, S.C. Friday night for a T-Mobile sponsored concert at Five Points, a popular shopping district.
