All Ice On Madonna at Oscar Party

Our guess is that Madonna thinks a recession is when you have to do your session again.

Because while the rest of America is cutting back, the superstar — who was last troubled by money problems when Reagan was president — piled on diamonds like sprinkles on a sundae for Oscar night.

Reminding us all why they call her the Material Girl, OK! has learned that she showed up to last night’s Vanity Fair post-Oscar bash wearing millions of dollars worth of Neil Lane jewelry, including:

• A black and white diamond chain with 500 carats of the shiny stones
• A diamond bangle with 25 carats of diamonds and platinum
• An onyx and diamond bracelet with 50 carats of diamonds 
• A pair of diamond pear shape earrings of 20 carats each
• A square diamond and onyx ring

Then for her own private party — not wanting to skimp on diamonds — Madge strapped herself into a cross and chain with 100 carats of diamonds, bracelets with 50 carats of diamonds, long diamond earrings worth 1 million dollars and a huge diamond and platinum ring.

Something tells us that her $76million divorce settlement with Guy Ritchie hasn’t got her buying own-brands at the supermarket quite yet.

Police Say Hilton Thief Familiar with House

Paris Hilton wasn’t just whistling dixie when she said she believed the person who broke into her L.A. home had been there before.

On Monday, the LAPD said they too think the thief who stole nearly $2 million from Hilton’s Mulholland Estates mansion last month was familiar with the layout of her home.

Investigators say the burglar knew how to access the socialite’s collection of rings, watches and necklaces.

Detectives are investigating a number of potential suspects based on information gathered from the scene and interviews with Paris.Hilton’s bedroom was ransacked during the overnight burglary, but police sources said security video showed a thief who knew the home and was able to quickly find Hilton’s jewelry collection, which includes several family heirlooms.

Police say the jewelry was in a place that was not accessible to someone simply searching the home. The burglar entered through an unsecured door at the home on Clerendon Road some time between late evening on Dec. 19 and 4 a.m. Dec. 20, according to police. Security guards discovered the break-in about 5 a.m. Dec. 20 and called police.

Hilton was not home at the time of the burglary. The thief wore gloves and shielded his face in a hooded sweat shirt. There was no evidence of the thief entering or leaving the gated community nestled in the hills of Sherman Oaks, law enforcement sources said.

In a brief television interview recently, Hilton suggested that she had some suspects in mind. "I think whoever did this, definitely has been [in my home] before. We have some suspects that I’m thinking of," she said. "I would tell them to please return my things, because I know that they’re probably watching. . . . They just have to anonymously have a taxi drop it off in my front gate in a box," she said. "They won’t get in trouble, but if all this goes on for much longer, they’re going to get in more trouble."

 

Paris Suspects Burglar Was No Stranger

Following a burglary at her L.A. home in which a thief stole close to $2 million in jewelry, Paris Hilton says she thinks she may know who the suspect is–at least, she says she doesn’t think it was a stranger.

After viewing her home surveillance tapes, Hilton told E! News, "I think whoever did this definitely has been there before. We have some suspects that I’m thinking of."

The robbery happened early Friday morning while Hilton was partying at Hollywood’s Bar Deluxe. Police say a man in a hooded sweatshirt and gloves forced his way through the front door and took most of his loot from Paris’s bedroom.

Hilton says the items taken include, "jewelry, watches, every ring I own. All my necklaces, jewelry that my grandmothers gave me that I’ll never be able to replace."

She adds, "You know, it’s just an invasion of privacy, and it’s happened to me before. It’s really scary but they’re doing a huge investigation on this, and we’re going to catch this person."

Paris, who initially said she felt unsafe staying in her Sherman Oaks, Calif., home after the break-in, says she has since "upped the security majorly."

 

"Obviously it’s devastating and disturbing that someone was in my home," she said. "[But] we have three security guards there and a 24-hour guard who is always on my property. We have the alarm on, [we have] the dogs, the guards with the gun, so no one is going to be coming into my house."

Hilton also has a message for the person or persons responsible for shattering her sense of security:

News right now, to return everything and that’s it," she said, adding, "They just have to anonymously have a taxi drop it off in my front gate in a box with my jewelry and everything. Johnny Depp to Tie the Knot?

Is Johnny Depp finally making an honest woman out of his long-term girlfriend, Vanessa Paradis?

 

Though the Pirates of the Caribbean star has said, “I don’t feel like I need a piece of paper that says I own her and she owns me, ” the 45-year-old may have had a change of heart.

 

Sources tell OK! that the actor had a high-end Southern California jewelry store shut down so he could privately shop for engagement rings on Dec. 10 for Vanessa, mom to his children, Lily Rose, 9, and Jack, 5 – and that he made a “very large purchase.”

 

“This was Johnny’s third or fourth visit to the store,” a source tells OK!. He looked at an assortment of classic solitaire diamond rings in platinum settings – a really beautiful selection of elegant and understated rings.”

 

Johnny, who met Vanessa in 1998 while filming The Ninth Gate, praises the French singer for giving him “proper perspective and understanding” after failed engagements
to Winona Ryder, Sherilyn Fenn and Jennifer Grey, and a tumultuous relationship with supermodel Kate Moss.

 

“We just have a miraculous understanding of each other,” he’s said.

Winona Ryder: No Gem Thief

Friends of Winona Ryder are slamming reports that the ’90s actress is under investigation for $125,000 of missing jewels.

 

The Reality Bites star, who was hospitalized in London after falling ill on a transatlantic flight on Nov. 19, borrowed a diamond Bulgari bracelet and ring to wear to a Marie Claire event in Madrid, Spain, on Nov. 20.

 

According to European newspaper reports, a police investigation was launched after the 37-year-old checked out of her hotel leaving no trace of the loaned trinkets.

 

However, a source close to the beleaguered star, who was arrested for shoplifting from an L.A. store in 2001, tells OK! the gems went missing after Winona left.

 

“The Marie Claire folks said, ‘Leave everything in the hotel room, and we’ll collect it,’ ” the source says. “Everything but the jewelry was there when Marie Claire went to get the belongings. It’s an issue between the magazine and the hotel. Winona’s not involved.”

Nicole Richie to Guest Star on ‘Chuck’

NBC’s returning drama Chuck will get a new cast member this fall, when Nicole Richie joins the cast for one episode as Special Agent Sarah Walker’s high school nemisis.

Richie will guest star as the snarky and spiteful girl who tortured Sarah in school. Now Sarah must face her fears when she’s forced to attend her 10-year high school reunion.

"Nicole auditioned for the part and was very funny," said executive producer Josh Schwartz. "This role is a great opportunity for her to show off her comedic skills and be diabolically evil and kick some butt. It’s going to be really fun."

This will be Richie’s first guest role since giving birth to her daughter Harlow. In addition to co-starring with Paris Hilton on The Simple Life, the new mom has appeared on shows such as 8 Simple Rules and American Dreams.

Richie also plans to launch her own jewelry line this fall, called House of Harlow 1960.
