Fashion Week Diary: Days Six and Seven

September 12th, 2007

Day 6: At the star studded Luca Luca show, whose ultra feminine and modern designs garnered a standing ovation from the crowd, OK! had two super quick chats. First, we caught up with How Do I Look? host Finola Hughes who confided that “This isn’t as edgy as I love but I think the clothes are so beautiful and wearable that I love to come to the show.”
Then, OK! quickly talked to JC Chasez, who’s been all over Fashion Week. “My last show will be Varvatos because you know I gotta know about the guy’s clothes.”

Day 7: Before the Heatherette show, OK! hung out backstage at the VIP Lounge fueled by Bustelo Cafe everyone from Lance Bass to Mya showed up to guzzle down the coffee drink and mingle with socialites like Tinsley Mortimer and socialite turned actress Bijou Phillips. The vibe was like a party where only the cool kids get invited.

Then up and coming rapper Lil Mama hit the stage to get the crowd going before the celeb studded show. Everyone from hip hop mogul Diddy to pop tart JoJo to model Tyrese showed up to check out the eccentric spring collection from Heatherette designers Richie Rich and Traver Rains. The theme: fabulous Americana drenched in glittery flamboyance with lots of toulle and lace thrown in.

OK! caught up with a few on the front row attendees. First JoJo, who aside from being a pop star has some other plans for fall, “I’m working on a movie in October in Toronto. And, I’m writing for other artists. And, I’m studying for my SAT’s.”

Then we caught up with Jake Shears from the Scissor Sisters who is ready to just chill. “I’m glad to be home in New York and actually come to a show. It’s the only show I come to. The Scissor Sisters are working on a vacation right now, which is awesome!”

Finally Lance Bass, who’s been too busy in his role in Hairspray to hit up too many shows assured OK! that his time on Broadway has been “Awesome!”

JoJo travels to ‘Cyber’ Space

August 31st, 2007

From flying around the world for concerts on all parts of the globe, to appearing on the silver screen in box-office hits like Aquamarine and RV, the last couple years have been an unbelievable whirlwind for teen sensation JoJo.

The “Too Little Too Late” singer may not be having the normal teen experience of attending high school every day, but 16-year-old tells OK!, “The tradeoff is amazing. I get to do what I love and get to travel and still get to get an education.”

The pop star can currently be seen playing herself in the Acuvue’s Hampton High at hamptonhighrevealed.com. “It’s the way of the future,” JoJo says of the webisode. “They have presidential debates on YouTube now, it’s crazy.”

One thing that isn’t crazy is just how grounded she is, and she thanks her mom in part for it. “I can’t say that as a teenage girl, I am able to make the smartest decisions all the time, but having her kind of remind me and set rules for me helps,” she says of her manager mom, Diana. “I try to represent myself in the right way. I really have no desire to go party at clubs, go out without underwear on. I’m only 16, but it doesn’t mean I can’t get into these places. I have no desire to do these things that will not get me to where I want to go.”

She also owes her talent to her mom. “She has a beautiful voice so I kind of mimicked her when I was younger.” Singing since the age of two, she got her start in this industry by appearing on the show Kids Say the Darndest Things and loved the feeling of being on stage. When asked who her favorite singer is, JoJo lit up and without more than a second of thought, “Beyoncé. She’s my favorite. I look up to her.”

As for her own touring schedule with her cute band members, expect an album next year and there are some film projects in the works. In the meantime, this self-professed “dweeb,” will be back in New York City for Fashion Week, walking in the MetLife presents Snoopy fashion show.

JOJO, 16, ONLY PLAYS A HIGH SCHOOLER ON WEB TV

August 30th, 2007

OK!’s Alisandra Puliti met up with JoJo at the St. Regis Hotel, where she was promoting Hampton High, an interactive series for the Web presented by Acuvue. “She loves what she does, and it shows,” Ali says. “She was up at 6 a.m. and was shocked kids have to do that every day.” Even though the "Leave (Get Out)" singer plays a high schooler, the 16-year-old star has no idea what it’s really like to attend. “I’ve actually never been to high school,” she told Ali. “I’ve been tutored the past four years. I’m entering my junior year. I’m not sure what high school is really like.” JoJo plays herself and all episodes will be on HamptonHighRevealed.com. Viewers can determine what happens next… just like the Choose Your Own Adventure series from back in the day!
