Jonathan Rhys Meyers in Airport Drama

June 24th, 2009

Jonathan Rhys Meyers seems to be in hot water with airport officials for the second time in his career, after he reportedly got into it with French police in Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport while drunk.

The AFP reports that it all started when the star of The Tudors was refused a drink by a bartender at Le Quotidien because Jonathan appeared drunk. After another bar employee tried to break up the confrontation, Jonathan allegedly punched him.

According to reports, Jonathan yelled, "You wanna hit me? Hit me!"

In November 2007 Jonathan was arrested for public drunkenness and breach of the peace at Dublin Airport.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ Back on Track

April 10th, 2009

Third time’s a charm for The Tudors star, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who plays the oft-married monarch Henry VIII in the Showtime series.

Not only is he celebrating his third season with the show, he’s also celebrating his third try at sobriety.

Despite his constant battles with alcoholism, Jonathan’s co-stars are confident in his recovery, including Annabelle Wallis who plays Henry’s third wife, Jane Seymour.

“Everybody goes through things in their life, and I respect Jonathan for the choices that he makes,” Annabelle told our OK! stringer Jac’leen Smith at Tudors event sponsored by Gourmet magazine last week.

“It’s very hard to confront things in life and I think he’s done a very wonderful job of it, and he’s all good now.”

Looking very polished in a tailored-gray suit, Jonathan didn’t show any signs of troubles with his alcoholism at the “Royal Affair” event.

According to a source at the party held in Conde Nast’s NYC Times Square headquarters, this would be Rhys first appearance since his stay in a British rehab facility in February.

Jonathan also did a stint at Promises Facility in Malibu, Calif., in May 2005 (actress Lindsay Lohan also received treatment there for substance abuse), and returned again in April 2007.

Tudors creator Michael Hirst says he’s rooting for the star.

“I think that what you see in Season Three, this is his best series. He was totally dominating this show,” he said.

“Johnny is dangerous and that’s why we wanted to cast him. I mean, I don’t care very much about everything else, but when he comes on the set, he’s the king.

“Nobody quite knows what to expect and that’s perfect for Henry VIII. That’s exactly how I wrote it. I couldn’t have imagined a better actor to play Henry VIII. I love Johnny to pieces.”

Do you think Jonathan is the real royale? Check out the next episode of The Tudors, airing Sunday, April 12 at 9 p.m. on Showtime.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers Experiences Love at First Sight

August 1st, 2008

Jonathan Rhys Meyers believes in love at first sight because he’s experienced it.

“I used to date a girl from Dublin,” The Tudors star, 31, says. “I fell in love with her the minute I saw her. It was like feelings — it wasn’t an epiphany — I kind of felt a little sick, really. It was very factual. The sky is blue; when it’s raining, you get wet; I was in love. The funny thing is I didn’t see her for five months, and then she traveled down to the countryside with a friend of mine and we just mistakenly bumped into each other. We both felt the same way — for awhile.”

Jonathan admits the couple went their separate ways.

“She’s married to another man,” he says. “Very happily married to another man. How’s that for a sting? I’m not so sure I would’ve been as good in a marriage. I think she and her husband are a perfectly matched couple.”

Luckily, he’s found love with heiress Reena Hammer.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Girlfriend Balance Each Other

March 25th, 2008

Jonathan Rhys Meyers and girlfriend heiress Reena Hammer can’t get enough of the reality show America’s Next Top Model. They tune in every Wednesday, and never miss an episode.

But why do they love each other?

“She’s very smart, she’s very beautiful and very responsible,” he tells me. “I am different.”

According to his August Rush director Kirsten Sheridan, Jonathan would make a great dad.

“He had such an emotional response to the idea of playing a father,” she tells me.

Is the 30-year-old Irishman ready for kids?

“I’m not so sure about that,” he admits. “Maybe.”

Catch Jonathan as King Henry VIII in The Tudors, which returns to Showtime for its second season on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

TV Recap: Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Miss Guided’s Judy Greer!

March 21st, 2008

Showtime knows how to get me to brush up on my world history. Just bring Jonathan Rhys Meyers back as King Henry VIII in another season of The Tudors. I attended the series’ second season premiere party Wednesday night in New York City and got to stare into the king’s devious eyes. Jonathan teased on whether he’d be back for a third season. “I don’t know yet,” he said. If I’m ever going to find out how Henry’s story ends, he better be! My colleague, Ali Puliti, chatted with Natalie Dormer, who plays queen Anne Boleyn and has some very major makeout sessions with Jonathan onscreen. "It hottens up the bedroom," she laughed. “We are very lucky that we have this onscreen chemistry that works, but other than that girls, I’m sorry, but it’s just another day at work." Yeah, a day at work I’d never be late for! Check out The Tudors, season two, when it premieres Sunday, March 30 at 9 p.m. on Showtime.

I also caught up with Judy Greer, star of the new ABC series Miss Guided on Thursday morning as she held the adorable Cottonelle puppy at the Cottonelle Comfort Haven Bus outside of New York City’s Grand Central. Judy’s on a mission, and she’s starting at the bottom, working with Cottonelle on their ‘Be Kind to Your Behind’ campaign. “I love our show’s teamsters, but they’re always stocking the trailers with these ginormous cheapest toilet paper there is," she complained. "I’m always thinking how insane would it be if I had my own roll of Cottonelle in my set bag. Does it make me seem like I have a bathroom problem? Or maybe it makes me seem like I care about comfort.” Judy’s also working on a Cottonelle sweepstakes that will send 10 winners and their guests on a luxurious California retreat. No, they don’t throw in the puppy. “I want to dognap it,” Judy joked.

Charges Dropped Against Jonathan Rhys-Meyers

December 5th, 2007 / Author: cwillett

The Dublin District Court has dropped charges against Jonathan Rhys-Meyers after the Tudors star expressed profuse remorse for his public intoxication at Dublin International Airport in November.

The 30-year-old will instead receive a legal caution, warning him of harsher punishment should he act in the same capacity in the country again.

Jonathan, who was not present at the arraignment, was arrested and charged with two counts of public drunkenness and breach of the peace when he was prohibited from boarding a plane to London.

Michael Staines, the actor’s attorney, called his client’s behavior "unacceptable and out of character" and that the star "unreservedly apologizes" to the airport staff and BMI airlines.

A recovering alocholic, the star, whose brush with the law came days before his mother Geri’s death at the age of 50, finished a stint in rehab earlier this year.
