Stars Roll Out For ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’

December 10th, 2008

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith certainly know how to make a scene. The married movie stars dually shun and invite the spotlight during their son Jaden’s premiere for The Day The Earth Stood Still, held Tuesday at AMC Loews Lincoln Center in NYC.  The remake of the 1951 sci-fi thriller is in theaters Friday.

As Linkin Park’s Breaking The Habit and Living Colour’s Cult of Personality blare, the threesome take turns dashing into a crowd of autograph seekers — a trick my WPLJ pal Brad Blanks calls “the old Hollywood duck-and-run.” As Jada heads into the fan pit, Will returns.

“I’m here so my son can show me up, but I’m going to step back tonight,” Will says. “You guys are going to get me into trouble. I’m not supposed to talk to you. I’m letting him do his thing.”

Is Jaden, 10, giving Will competition?

“You know better than that,” Jada says shyly, standing ten feet away from reporters before moving up to gush about her son.

“As a mom, it’s hard when you put your son in a classic and you hope he can be part of the group to make the movie work again,” she says. “You always try to make it better than the classic, and that’s what is very difficult, because that’s what makes it a classic. But he had a great time and I’m very proud of him.”

Switch! As Jada heads into the theater, Jaden captures the spotlight. Does he feel like a star tonight?

“Not really,” he says. “Sometimes I don’t feel like that.”

Keanu Reeves
steps up, and his charm immediately puts me on his side. He accidentally slams his hand into my recorder as he’s telling a story, but makes no fuss. A reporter asks if there are elements of a certain religion practiced by TomKat in this tale.

“Maybe in the beginning it’s a little more alien-infused, but the Scientology element is happening as well,” Keanu says.

After making this movie, both stars Jennifer Connelly (whose legs are like toothpicks) and Jon Hamm believe in alien encounters.

“I think there’s probably some form of life elsewhere in the universe, given the scale of the universe,” Balenciaga-wearing Jennifer says.

Golden Globe winner Jon agrees. “I just think the numbers are too big,” the Mad Men star, who is accompanied by girlfriend of ten years Jennifer Westfeldt, tells me. “There’s too many stars and planets and people and things out there. There’s gotta be something on top of them.”

Who would Ms. Connelly trust to save the world?

“I wish Obama a lot of luck. Or my kids – they’re pretty clever.”

Director Scott Derrickson fuels my newfound interest in Keanu.

“He’s a pretty serious person with a lot on his mind,” Scott says.

Apparently, The Matrix star is a voracious reader.

“He reads more than anybody I’ve ever met,” he tells me. “It was something new every time, because every time I’d see him, he’d finished the last book he had. He reads a lot of fiction, historical fiction, some straight history, science fiction. I saw him go through many genres in the short time I’ve been with him making this movie.”

Another selling point? Keanu is always on time.

“He’s extraordinarily punctual, and he’s extraordinarily prepared,” he says. “Actors are all over the map on that front, and some of them can be very undisciplined and some of them can do what they want because they’re movie stars. He’s really the opposite extreme of that. He has an extraordinary work ethic. I never found myself ever needing to push him along to get him to work harder.”

Sounds good!

Keanu Not Guilty in Pap Case

November 3rd, 2008

Some jobs are just dangerous, especially if you’re a paparazzo taking pictures of Keanu Reeves when he isn’t feeling particularly photogenic.

The photog, Alison Silva, claimed that the Speed actor hit him with his Porsche, knocking him down and causing him to "permanently" injure his wrist in March 2007 as the papster tried to shoot a few pics of the celebrity.

However an L.A. jury ruled unanimously that Keanu isn’t responsible for the alleged injuries the snapper suffered after the incident, including an injured wrist, according to TMZ.

Maybe that’ll teach him to get out of the way of a cagey celeb next time.

Keanu: I never Hit a Pap!

October 28th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Keanu Reeves is known for his cheesy one-liners in films (think Point Break: "I am an F-B-I agent!"). But on Tuesday, the actor had a big one-liner for the court:  I didn’t hit a paparazzo!

Reeves took the stand at his civil trial where he says he slowly moved his Porsche forward to get a paparazzo to move out of the way, but never hit him.

He testified about his recollection of a night in March 2007, when a photographer claims the actor seriously injured him with his car.  Alison Silva is suing the actor for damages and lost wages.  He claims Reeves pushed him to the ground with his car while Silva was taking pictures.

Wearing a dark suit and frequently using his hands, Reeves described how he tried to get Silva to get out in front of his car by rocking it and moving it slowly forward, but never hit the photographer.

No On-Set Romance for Keanu & Winona

May 22nd, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Inside the current issue of tasteless tabloid Star there’s a "news" item about how actors Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder are getting romantic, embracing each other and spending lots of time together in their trailers on the Connecticut set of their film
The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. That would be really interesting — if there was even one ounce of truth to it.

Well, technically it is true that both stars are filming this movie, but that’s where reality ends in this story.

First, one insider on the film confirms to OK! that there aren’t any trailers on the set for Keanu and his rumored lady love to retire to. And what about them getting cozy during their time together on the set? According to another source, the non-couple haven’t even been on-set at the same time, making it physically impossible for them to embark on a public hug-fest in front of the cast and crew.

Denied: No ‘Bill and Ted’ Sequel

April 4th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

At the Street Kings premiere Thursday night, Keanu Reeves confirmed that any hope of a Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure reunion is just that — hope.

"If there is [plans for a sequel], I’m not there. I don’t know. Alex [Winter, co-star] and I are still friends. But I don’t think so."

Reeves shot to fame as the dim-witted Ted in the ’80’s cult classic, who, along with his buddy, Bill (played by Alex Winter), discovers a phone booth that’s actually a time machine. The pair use the machine to travel through time, bringing back a group of historic figures to win their class history project. Reeves and Winter went on to star in the 1991 sequel, Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey.

But back to the present time. At last night’s Street Kings Premiere, Reeves said he spent a lot of time preparing for his role as a conflicted cop.

“I spent some time with some police officers and they were very generous in explaining part of their life," he says. "I guess internalizing and trying to be authentic in terms of the violence [was the most challenging]…”

New Couple Alert: Keanu Reeves & Parker Posey?

March 5th, 2008

On Feb. 25, an eyewitness spotted Matrix hunk Keanu Reeves cozying up to the queen of indie films, Parker Posey, at swanky L.A. hotel the Chateau Marmont.

"They were sharing a seat and sitting very, very close," the source tells OK!. "It was probably the oddest couple I’ve ever seen."

It’s hard not to see what 39-year-old Parker likes about the Speed star. But despite his obvious good looks, Keanu, 43, is a bit of a departure from the type of men Parker has been known to date. Her past boyfriends include rocker Ryan Adams and author Thomas Beller.

The last time we saw Keanu getting jiggy with anyone, it was with Sandra Bullock on the set of their movie, The Lake House. Perhaps Parker is taking the name of her new sitcom The Return of Jezebel James (premiering March 14 on Fox) to heart.

Hey, they say opposites attract!
