Chace’s Grueling “Footloose” Trials

May 28th, 2009

It’s good to know that, just because you’re white hot star like Chace Crawford, it doesn’t mean you’re going to get gigs handed to you on a silver platter.

At least, not when it comes to things as serious and important as the remake of Footloose.

Chace Crawford, who scooped up Kevin Bacon’s role from the 1984 original when Zac Efron dropped out, has revealed that he went through a grueling audition process before being given the part.

“It was, like, five hours of the most rigorous tests ever,” the Gossip Girl star told EW.

But, he added, “I walked out very confident.”

And rightly so, according to producer, Craig Zadan. “At the end of it, we all sort of looked at each other and said, ‘He’s the guy!’,” Zadan, who also produced the original, gushed to the site.

Kevin & Kyra are Still in Tune

March 8th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

On the latest Bacon Brothers CD, New Year’s Day, Kevin Bacon sings the praises of his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, 43.

"I took the inspirational things she’s said to me that are her life’s mottos and wrote them into song," the father of two, 50, told OK! at the Feb. 24 Musicians On Call event in NYC.
The result was "Kikko’s Song."

The couple, who have been happily married for 20 years (amazing by Hollywood’s standards) tells OK! that the secret to their wedded bliss is "We like each other’s company," Kevin says.

Meanwhile, Bacon has taken on a new role in HBO’s Taking Chance. Based on real-life events, the actor plays Lt. Col. Michael Strobl, a volunteer military escort officer who accompanies the body of 19-year old Marine Chance Phelps back to his home. It’s something the actor recently says hit home.

"You know, I’ve got a son of my own and it’s - it’s almost kind of unthinkable (to deal with that kind of loss), and yet they have a certain, a real strength and a grace and kind of elegance about them that’s really inspirational," he says.

Video: Kevin Bacon, James Taylor Deal With Family Matters

February 26th, 2009

Kevin Bacon and brother Mike – also known as the Bacon Brothers – host the Musicians On Call Benefit Concert and Auction held at the Hard Rock Café in NYC.

How do the guys cope with sibling rivalry?

“We’re still dealing with it,” Kevin, 50, tells me.

Mike, 59, adds, “I beat him up every once in awhile just to keep him humble.”

Kevin laughs, “I try to ask him to stay away from my face because I use it for work.”

See OK!’s exclusive video! It’s your ticket to the party.

The Bacon Brothers aren’t the only duo on deck tonight. James Taylor, who just says “no” to rumors of retirement, steps out with daughter Sally, whose mom is Carly Simon. (He’s performing!)

Sally, 35, made James a grandpa with the birth of her son Bodhi, 16 months.

How does being a grandparent compare to being a parent?

“Kids are kids, but any grandfather will tell you — you get to hand them back to their parents when you’re tired,” James, 60, tells me. “When you’ve got your own, you’ve got them all the time.”

James isn’t solely in grandparent mode. He’s also dad to twins Henry and Rufus, 7, with wife Kim.

Any advice for parents of twins, like Rebecca Romijn, Jennifer Lopez and Julia Roberts?

“There are more and more of us,” he tells me. “Actually, it’s easier than having two kids of different ages. You just basically do everything twice.”

Speaking of advice, Sally ponders big time when asked the best words of wisdom her parents James and Carly have given her.

“Follow your dreams,” she tells me. “That’s something that’s changed. Every time I think I have one direction, it branches off into a different path that’s always something much more interesting than I could have ever come up with. Follow your dreams.”

Sally continues, “It comes from both of them. It’s an evolution of their own creation of their lives. To continuously do what your heart tells you to do is something that they’re both products of. I don’t think you can deny that that’s been extremely successful for both of them. If I can continue to do that, I think I’ll probably be in good standing.”

What did her parents think of her naming her son Bodhi?

“They both loved it. They both really loved it. My dad’s all about vowels and consonant sounds and being able to call someone like  [calls out] Bodhi… that was perfect for him. My mom just loved the concept of the magical spirituality of it.”

She continues, “My husband and I spent a lot of time in Southeast Asia, so that was a major influence on our decision. My mom really liked the idea that it was exotic because she’s exotic.”

What was the inspiration for the name Bodhi?

Bodhi is the tree that the Buddha was enlightened under, and in Buddhism, Bodhi is someone who doesn’t need to incarnate again, but incarnates for the compassion of helping others to achieve enlightenment. Bodhi’s fatwa is way too long and way to heavy. You just don’t want to burden your son with the heavy load of having to become a Buddhist monk, so what are you going to do?”

She adds, “Bodhi just seemed like the right name, and it just rang true with both my husband and I that our son was supposed to be named Bodhi. And that was it!”

Time to head in for a night of music and appetizers like coconut chicken. Mmm – delish.

Kevin Bacon Victim of $50 Billion Ponzi Scheme

December 30th, 2008

Kevin Bacon and wife Kyra Sedgwick are the latest Hollywood heavyweights to find themselves the butt of former Wall Street financier Bernie Madoff’s $50 billion joke Ponzi scheme.

On Tuesday, Bacon’s rep confirmed to New York Magazine that the actor and his wife lost money in Madoff’s scam, saying, "Unfortunately your report is true. I can confirm that they had investments with Mr. Madoff."

According to the Washington Post, Madoff reportedly told his sons before his arrest this month of his multi-billion dollar scheme. Following the playbook written more than 80 years ago by Charles Ponzi, who used money from new investors to pay juicy returns to old investors.

Steven Speilberg’
s Wunderkinder Foundation was also hit, and DreamWork’s Jeffrey Katzenberg has lost "millions", reports the Wall Street Journal.

Ron Howard Talks ‘Happy Days,’ Michael Sheen Talks Family

December 4th, 2008

Although Jennifer Aniston is on the list, she is a no-show for the Frost/Nixon premiere held at NYC’s  Ziegfeld Theatre. Rrr. I really wanted to attend Keri Russell’s Adrienne Shelly Foundation Gala, which is taking place at the same time, but defied my heart and switched in the name of star power.

Well, even if he’s not from TV shows past like Felicity and the Mickey Mouse Club, director Ron Howard represents the granddaddy of them all — Happy Days. Who would he want to reprise his role?

“I have lived my life in such a way so that I really hope nobody ever wants to make a movie about my life,” Ron tells me. “I’ve tried to keep the twists and turns to a minimum. But there’s no one that leaps to mind to take on Richie.”

Kevin Bacon and wife Kyra Sedgwick pose with their daughter Sosie before slipping out the entrance without talking to reporters. Hm, do they have a scandal?

Here comes Michael Sheen, who is dad to Lily, 9, with ex Kate Beckinsale. How do they work out parent swaps?

“It’s very relaxed and informal,” the actor who plays Frost says. “We don’t work anything out too much. It’s up to Lily a lot of the time. When she gets bored of me, she goes to Kate, and when she gets bored of Kate, she comes to me.”

What’s she into?

“She’s rehearsing Mamma Mia! in her drama class,” he says. “She’s very excited about that.”

He doesn’t want her to become an actress.

“I hope she’s going to be a writer,” Michael says. “She’s a very good writer.”

Rebecca Hall had a blast playing a character in this Nixon drama, but what historical character interests her most?

“If I could travel back in time, I wouldn’t mind meeting Shakespeare and finding out just how much of the plays he wrote and what he didn’t,” she tells me. “I could solve some long-standing academic arguments. I finished reading a book on the Congo and King Leopold, and that interests me a lot. The whole African history and how Belgium ran it.”

Frank Langella, who plays Richard Nixon, was in for surprises.

“I learned about the brilliance of his mind as a lawyer, and how long he could filibuster and keep everybody off base until he thought the moment was necessary that he give the American people the truth, which he did.”

Frost/Nixon is in theaters Friday.
