David Cook: ‘I’ve Won The Lottery of Life’

November 3rd, 2008

It’s been quite a year for David Cook.

As well as winning American Idol and recording an album, he’s also found love with his fellow Idol alum Kimberly Caldwell, 26.

The pair got together back in May, just before he beat David Archuleta for first place in the seventh season of the Fox show — and six months later they’re still going strong.

"It’s going great," David, 25, tells OK!. "Next to all the craziness that’s my life right now, she’s been an absolute anchor. I keep saying that as long as I don’t do anything to screw it up, we’re going to be together for a bit."

"I may have hit the lottery with life this past year," David says.

Meanwhile, David’s fulfilled another dream by performing on the Nov. 1 episode of SNL.

"Having any connection to that show," David says, "you can’t take that away from me, ever."

His new album, Light On, is due for release on Nov. 18.

Cougars Love Cook

American Idol David Cook has a new fan base–moms!

The 25-year-old singing sensation tells OK! he’s a bit uncomfortable with all the attention he’s received from preying cougars since winning Idol.

"Every time a mother comes up to me and says proudly that she’s a cougar, it’s always a little unnerving," David, who is a spokesperson for Skechers USA, tells OK!. "I’m just like, ‘Uhhh. OK!’ It’s a little strange."

Cook, who is currently on the American Idols Live! Tour with his fellow AI finalists says he only has eyes for Idol’s season one alum, Kimberly Caldwell, 26, who he’s been romantically linked to for several months.

"I’ll just say it’s going well and leave it at that," a coy Cook tells OK!.

How Kimberly Caldwell Landed David Cook

July 3rd, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

David Cook may have asked Kimberly Caldwell out on a date on national TV, but it was really Kimberly who made the first move in their budding romance.

After hearing that the 25-year-old American Idol champ was interested in her, Kimberly waste no time in trying to get access to him, a source tells OK!.

“Kimberly made her way to the Idol set during a taping and asked one of the security guys to slip David her number," her pal tells OK!. "She insisted they tell him to call.”

Her wish was granted and, adds the source, the two went undetected for a month before anyone caught wind of their romance in May.

The new relationship — which will be tested as David hits the road starting tomorrow for the American Idol tour — came at just the right time for the 26-year-old season two finalist.

“Kimberly was going through a bad breakup at the time,” the source says. “She was thrilled when she heard David was into her.”

David Cook Nervous About National Anthem

June 11th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

For David Cook, the most recent winner on American Idol, getting the chance to sing the National Anthem at Tuesday’s NBA Finals game in L.A. ranks high on his list of achievements.

"Top three," he told OK! before the game. "Between this, getting to do The Tonight Show, and I got to visit a children’s hospital in New York which was pretty heavy… Jay Leno and this, respectively, take second and third to that."

Of course, with dozens of A-listers in the crowd at the Staples Center and millions of fans watching at home on TV, David was well aware of the potential for disaster.

"It’s the one song you don’t want to mess up," he confessed. "So I’m going to try to not notice Jack Nicholson sitting in the front row."

The biggest difference between singing at the NBA Finals and the Idol finals? "No matter what I do I don’t have Simon telling me how dreadful it was afterwards."

One celebrity who was definitely rooting for David to do well was new girlfriend, and fellow AI alum Kimberly Caldwell, who waited in the dressing room while he performed but who joined him in the crowd when the game began.

As for the immediate future, David will soon rejoin his Idol competition for this summer’s tour, and then he’s got an album to release. "We’re looking at mid-fall, October - November," he revealed about the release date. "We started writing stuff this last week and so far, so good."

However, before you get your hopes up that he and gal-pal Kimberly will collaborate on a song together, David says, "There will be no duets."

David Cook: I’m No Sex Symbol!

June 5th, 2008

He’s the new American Idol, but don’t call David Cook a sex symbol!

Although throngs of girls have been fanning themselves over the 25-year-old during the show’s run, the singer says that’s not what he wants out of his newfound fame.

“It’s nice and flattering for people to say, but I want to be more than just that," the modest rocker tells OK!. "I want to be an artist. You hear stories about groupies in hotels. I don’t want to get caught up in that.”

Certainly, AI alum Kimberly Caldwell, 26, would approve of David’s approach. The two recently went out on date after the Idol champ asked the season two contestant out live on television on her show Idol Tonight. And while they were totally in tune, don’t expect a permanent duet.

“We had a good time,” he says. “If schedules warrant it, we may hang out again.”

With the AI tour coming up — starting July 1 — David will have very little time for dating, much less working out! The Blue Springs, Mo. native dropped 15 pounds over the run of the show.

“I cut out drinking and eating the foods I shouldn’t have been eating,” he explains.

But David admits he’s still a little soft around the middle: “That’s where the work comes in!”

May 27th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

David Cook is cooking up more than an album these days.

The newly crowned American Idol champ no longer seems unattached as he was captured out on a date with season two contestant Kimberly Caldwell by TMZ over the weekend.

And sorry ladies – he hopes there’s more to come.

“I went out on a date the other day with a woman named Kimberly Caldwell,” the 25-year-old ‘fessed up on Live with Regis and Kelly Tuesday morning. “I did [have a good time]. We’ll probably hang out again. So we’ll see.”

The two dined at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and David was caught opening the door to the car for his date after the meal.

A correspondent for the TV Guide Channel, Kimberly, 26, who finished seventh in the second season, met David through her weekly AI coverage. He asked her out on live TV on Wednesday’s night wrap-up.
