Kirstie Alley Gets Weight-Loss Reality Show

April 28th, 2009
Kirstie Alley is set to appear on Oprah Winfrey’s show on Thursday to discuss her battle of the bulge. The actress signed up as a spokesperson with Jenny Craig in 2005, and lost 75 pounds. She then appeared on Oprah in 2007 to show off her new figure in a swimsuit, but has since fallen off the weight loss wagon.
One option that could be open to her? Returning to her former employers, who say they’ve still got friendly feelings for Kristie.
“Jenny Craig maintains a friendly relationship with Kirstie and we are proud of her accomplishments while she was on our program. Kirstie successfully lost 75 lbs and maintained that weight loss throughout our three year relationship, which came to an end in December 2007. We remain supportive of Kirstie, wish her nothing but the best and we would welcome her back at any time as a returning client,” said a Jenny Craig spokesperson.
Valerie Bertinelli Defends Kirstie Alley

Jenny Craig spokeswoman Valerie Bertinelli is speaking out to defend Kirstie Alley, who was rumored to have gotten kicked to the curbed by the weight-loss company earlier in the year for allegedly not being able to maintain her figure.
“I don’t think that’s true," Valerie tells OK!. "I’ve seen Kirstie and I think she looks terrific."
And regarding recent less-than-flattering photographs of Kirstie, Valerie says, "I don’t know what those photographs might say. I don’t really see a lot of them; I’ve heard of them. But I disagree. When I’ve been with Kirstie, she looks terrific.”
Meanwhile, all eyes are on the former One Day at a Time star as she tries to maintain the 40 pounds she lost through Jenny Craig. Valerie, who spoke to OK! while promoting her upcoming Lifetime TV movie, True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet, said, “I think this is the best weight-management program. It’s the one that’s worked for me the longest. I’ve never kept weight off this long.
“I wasn’t satisfied a year and a half ago. I am now. I’m not a perfect size zero. I’m never going to be. I’m not a two; I’m not a four; I’m between a six and an eight. In the business I’m in, that’s heavy. But you know what? I’m comfortable at this weight. I can move about in the world at a much easier pace when I was 40 pounds heavier but I’m not going to be told what I have to weigh by society or what the glamour magazines tell you you have to weigh,” Valerie said.
While she eats the Jenny Craig food, for exercise, Valerie said, “I walk a lot. I love to go hiking and I have a walkvest, a weighted vest that I really love, by Debbie Rocker. I wear that all the time. I feel freer!”

Kirstie Alley and Jenny Craig Part Ways
February 15th, 2008 / Author: cwillett
Amidst rumors of weight gain leading actress Kirstie Alley’s dismissal from the Jenny Craig ad campaign, Steve Bellach, the company’s director of branding, advertising, media and analysis, tells OK! that the company and the actress are indeed parting ways.
“After being a Jenny Craig celebrity client for these past three years - losing 75 pounds and maintaining that weight loss for more than a year — Kirstie Alley is ready to move on to other creative challenges,” Bellach tells OK!. “She’s proud to have been able to participate in the creation of Jenny’s award-winning, integrated advertising campaign, and says she’s thankful for the opportunity to help so many other people learn how to successfully manage their weight.”
Once weighing more than 200 pounds, Alley slimmed down with the help of Jenny Craig and turned fat into fame with her television series Fat Actress. But, recently reports have surfaced that Alley is struggling with weight issues once again and is back above 200 pounds. While the business end of their relationship has come to an end, Bellach says Alley is dedicated to remaining on the diet. He tells OK!:
“Although Kirstie will not appear in future advertising endeavors for us, she does remain on Jenny Craig’s maintenance program, and is confident that our program has helped her learn healthy eating and exercise behaviors and make positive lifestyle changes.”
A manager for Alley did not return calls.

Queen Latifah Vows to Get Fit
January 10th, 2008 / Author: cwillett
Queen Latifah may be the latest Jenny Craig spokesperson, but don’t expect her to become a skinny minnie like former promoters Kirstie Alley and Valerie Bertinelli. Instead, the Queen wants to use the program to get fit and inspire others to do so as well.
“I’m taking the first step toward a healthier lifestyle,” Queen said at a press conference at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel. “I’m getting calls from everybody in my family and a lot of my friends who are really excited and want to do this with me.”
For the 37-year-old rapper/actress, being healthy is of utmost importance after losing her great-grandmother to diabetes. "Losing five to ten percent of my body weight is a good challenge for me, to be healthier and not to be so concerned with diabetes."
Queen does want to stress, though, that signing up with Jenny Craig "is not about a body image sort of thing" as she’s completely comfortable and "confident" in who she is.
“I think everybody knows that about me," she says. "But I do realize I’m a role model to a lot of people… being a healthier person is a good thing. If I can set the example of confidence from the inside, why not set it for confidence from the outside as well?"
The star, who has tipped the scales at about 200 pounds in the past, doesn’t feel she’ll be depriving herself with Jenny Craig. “It’s good food!”
And you’ll still see the same Queen you know and love, she promised. “I do not want to get skinny. I do not necessarily want to fit into a bikini, but a tankini could work! I don’t mind looking sexy.”
