Miley: Keep Me Away from Sin City!

April 5th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Lots of strange things happen in Las Vegas, even to celebrities. Just ask Britney Spears, who had a quickie marriage (and even quicker annulment) to high-school pal Jason Alexander in 2004. Perhaps that’s why teen superstar Miley Cyrus tells OK! it’s best if she stays as far away from Sin City as possible.

When OK! caught up with the 16-year-old Hannah Montana star before Sunday night’s Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas, she explained that the first rule to keeping her life on the straight and narrow path is to "stay out of Vegas!"

"I can’t be here very long," she explained. "And I try not to be here as much as possible."

Wonder if the Las Vegas tourism board might want to have a word with her after this?

O.J. Jurors Begin Deliberations

October 3rd, 2008

O.J. Simpson has been back in court again lately, facing charges of kidnapping and robbery after he and five other men allegedly stole collectibles from sports memorabilia dealers in Las Vegas last year.

And today, the nine women and three men of the jury began their deliberations, going behind closed doors around 8:30 this morning in Las Vegas to discuss the 12 counts against O.J. and associate Clarence "C.J." Stewart, reports the Associated Press.

The 61-year-old former athlete and TV personality could face life in prison if he is convicted. The prosecution claims he and five associates stormed into a Las Vegas hotel room last year and made off with thosuands of dollars in memorabilia after brandishing guns at the collectibles dealers in the room.

The defense says O.J. was just retrieving property that belonged to him, and didn’t know his colleagues were carrying guns.

O.J. was cleared in the 1994 slaying deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman, but later was ordered to pay the victims’ families $33.5 million in a civil court decision.

Michael Phelps: Gold-en Tan?

September 10th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Olympic hero, Michael Phelps, 23, is as famous for rocking a Speedo as he is for winning 8 straight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics.

But on Sept. 5, Phelps got himself one other thing: a fake tan! The swimmer paid a visit to Palms Place’s Sunset Tan in Las Vegas, where he got himself spray-tanned.

The previous night, the champ and his entourage of more than 20 partied the night away at the Palms Casino Resort’s Playboy Club, where an onlooker tells OK!, "He was all smiles. He enjoyed chatting it up with the Playboy bunnies.

And afterward? A record-breaking dinner of chicken, shrimp, crab legs and lobster tails at N9ne Steakhouse.

Next up for Phelps? A well-deserved homecoming to be held on Oct. 4 in Baltimore, Md. The Olympic champ and fellow swimmer Katie Hoff will be thrown in their honor, including an afternoon parade that will head south toward the neighborhood Phelps grew up in and where his mother, Debbie, still lives.

Jerry Lewis Caught With Gun at Airport

July 29th, 2008

Someone might want to tell Jerry Lewis to stop watching those Oceans films.

On Tuesday, the 82-year old entertainer and one time professional sidekick to Dean Martin (who starred in the original Oceans 11) was cited for trying to take a gun onto a plane headed from Las Vegas to Detroit.

Las Vegas police say they confiscated a gun belonging to Lewis from his carry-on luggage. Lewis was cited for carrying an unloaded concealed weapon at the Las Vegas Airport.

The actor’s manager says the handgun is a hollowed-out prop gun that Lewis sometimes twirls during his show. She told the AP that the gun couldn’t fire.

The rep adds that Lewis didn’t know that the gun was in his bag along with other props. However Vegas police officer Bill Cassell said, "it wouldn’t be a weapon and we couldn’t cite him for carrying a weapon," if the gun had been merely a prop.

No word on where K-Fed’s kids (all four of them) will be when he parties the night away gets his Father’s Day award. We’re just sayin’!

"The designs are about my high school years," she tells OK!. "There’s tie-dye, there’s Jerry Garcia, it’s groovy. That’s when I was able to just go down to Venice Beach – go with a really big bag with all my stuff in it and just walk around and just people watch."

And when she’s not busy concocting designs, the 33-year-old is working on new tunes (including the Sex and the City movie theme) and planning her upcoming nuptials to Las Vegas star Josh Duhamel. Find out how she does it all!

What was the inspiration for launching a bookbag line?

The first bag design I did, I was basically in the mode of the Dutchess album, so I was using a lot of the elements that were in my mind – things that related to Dutchess. With this, there was a fresh palette and it was fun so I was thinking, “Let me go deeper, I want to go back to my high school years. And that’s what the designs are about.

How do they reflect your high-school years?
California Doll, that line is all about it. There’s tie-dye, there’s Jerry Garcia, it’s groovy. That’s when I was able to just go down to Venice Beach – go with a really big bag with all my stuff in it and just walk around and just people watch. It started off with the domino print, that’s from before that would be with kickbacks. Guys would be sitting around, playing dominoes, dollar bills crumpled up, everybody’s playing.

It would just be really fun and loud and just reminded me of back in the day. So we started playing with that idea – a gambler, a risk taker. And the colors that came to mind were reminiscent of race car driving, the bold colors. Chic Rocker is the third line, is more street influenced. A bandana print really started that inspiration – each one starts off in kind of a pattern – so this started with the bandana.

So did the Domino have any inspiration because of Las Vegas?

I think that was a lucky coincidence! The laws of attraction, I guess. I am a gambler.

Will this collection inspire your music?

Yeah, you know, it brings back memories. There are things inside that if you start thinking about it, you start remembering other things. It’s how people relate. It turns into a statement of who you are. If you can relate to something that bag says, that kind of says a little bit about who you are.

You did Candies, you have your bag line, you did MAC makeup… What’s next — jewelry?
Mixing Cartier with Chrome Hearts [shows off engagement ring]. I call this one "Duhamel," it’s an original. He did a good job! But I’ll take it step by step, day by day because I don’t want to swamp myself and if I sign up for something, I won’t have the time and put the effort in. The great thing about Kipling is that they were ready for my ideas, which was great because I had so many ideas and so many opinions.

Your song "Labels or Love" is the theme to the Sex and the City movie. How were you inspired to write it?

The song completely fits the personalities of the girls – it’s kind of a love triangle between love, friends and fashion. I was thrilled to do this song, I’ve been such a huge fan for so long. My mother and I would watch it religiously. So when I saw the movie, I got all of the references. I loved it.

Who would you like to collaborate with?

I want to collaborate with a lot of people. I love Nelly. He’s such a great performer, he’s so hyper and so am I.

How do you stay so grounded in this industry? Who’s your support system?

I have my team. Like if you see everyone around me – I have my hair and makeup girl, my assistant. They’re very calm, they’re all about positive energy. There’re no drama queens. Everyone wants everyone else to have a positive experience. There are no agendas. I think it creates a healthy environment and they are no boundaries to cross.

So, planning a wedding – is it stressful?

I don’t know, I haven’t started yet! [laughs hysterically] They say we have a date or something like next summer, but it’s like "Really? Thanks! Good to know!"

Cher: “Everybody Thought I Was a Ho”

April 29th, 2008

Madonna’s known as the mother of reinvention, but if there’s one person who can rival her in the image department, it is Cher. Love it or hate it, the 61-year-old superstar has always made a fashion statement, to say the least, during her 40 years in the business. But while crazy, avant-garde styles are accepted these days, Cher says that was not that case back in the ‘60s.

"Everybody thought I was such a ho because of the way I dressed,” she tells Entertainment Tonight. “People would make fun of Sonny [Bono] and I. Actually, they used to punch him in the nose because we looked so weird and they were so frightened of it. People don’t look beneath anything."

Nowadays, Cher is ready to show off more of her fashion sense in the gaudiest city of them all – Las Vegas. The Oscar and Grammy winner will headline Cher at the Colosseum at Casesars Palace starting on May 6. The show will last three years, with the actress/singer scheduled to perform 200 shows. And then will that be it for Cher?

"Who knows. Every year critics say, ’she’s on her way out,’ but I’m still here and who knows why. I have no reason why!"

Perhaps a film may follow her Vegas visit.

"I’d do acting again because I love it. I’m not really a singer, I’m a better actress."

For more on Cher, tune in to ET on Wednesday.
