Rocco DiSpirito’s Hot Dog Love

May 22nd, 2009

Celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito has mastered the art of exquisite cooking but his favorite dish for the summer is anything but refined. Anyone can make it, and all you need is a couple ingredients!

"My secret indulgence is the corner hotdog cart with onions, Rocco told OK! in Times Square on May 19 where he was grilling hotdogs and handing them out to New Yorkers to kickoff Oscar Meyers commitment to donate $100,000 worth of hot dogs to Feeding America throughout the summer. "Even though I’m a big fancy chef, I can appreciate a good hotdog."

However, the simplest meals still require skills. So we asked the former Dancing With the Stars contestant and Top Chef judge to share his expertise on summer cooking, staying in shape and tips on perfecting summer’s most popular dish the hotdog!

OK!: With all these hotdogs, how do you stay in shape in the summer?

I’m a triathlete so I’m lucky that I have that in my life. It definitely keeps me in shape or else Id be a pig fat pig. My next triathlon is in November. It’s Ironman 70.3 in Clearwater, Florida.

OK!: Do you still keep up the dancing skills you learned on DWTS?

[Laughs] You call what I did dancing? I love dancing. Ive always loved dancing. I need Karina to come back in my life and help me finish learning how to dance.

OK!: Why is Feeding America important to you?

Feeding people is what I do for a living whether they can pay for it or not doesn’t matter to me. It’s a really bad time for people who rely on food pantries or food banks. The amount of food going to those food banks is at an all time low and the demand is at an all-time high.

Rocco’s Perfect Hot Dog Tips:

1. Grill it till it gets brown.
2. Dont let it burst
3. Give people a wide array of ingredients to chose from so they can personalize it.
4. Warm the bun. Very important!

Summer Cooking Must-Haves:

1. A charcoal grill.

2. A great house cocktail. (One of Rocco’s favorites is pomegranate and prosecco.)
3. Lots of ice.
4. Baked good.
5. Nice cold beer for sure. (Rocco likes a pilsner).

How Can SNL Outdo Itself Next Season?

May 21st, 2009

Between Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin impersonations and Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg’s collaborations, this season’s Saturday Night Live will be hard to top. Saturday marks the first weekend of the show’s off-season and three month hiatus, leaving fans wondering, “ What could they possibly come up with next season?"

“We’re going to get Jesus to host,” SNL actor Jason Sudeikis told OK! at the Peabody Awards in NYC May 18. “That’d be neat, right?”

While having God host the show might be well, impossible, even creator Lorne Michaels is out of ideas on what or who to bring back.

“Nothing so far,” he says. “But summer’s just beginning so we’ll go look at new people and anybody we get excited about we’ll bring back.”

If after summer Lorne’s still out of ideas, SNL vet Fred Armisen’s got some suggestion on his favorite skits.

“I love Bill Hader doing Vincent Price, I could watch that all day,” says Fred, whose New York Governor Paterson and Barack Obama impersonations became YouTube sensations. “I like other people’s [skits] more than mine.”

While playing the most powerful man in the world might seem intimidating, Fred said there was no time for butterflies when he found out he had the role.

“It happened so fast there was no time to be nervous,” he tells OK!. “[To practice] I make recordings of myself and play them back.”

So will he reprise his role as the Commander in Chief next season?

“We’ll see,” Fred says with a smile.

Last Saturday’s finale was one for the record books with guests including Anne Hathaway, Tom Hanks, Elisabeth Moss, Paul Rudd and SNL alum Will Ferrell, who gave the audience a treat when he joined Green Day on stage after the show wrapped and reprised his famous Oyster Cult skit by playing a cowbell with the band,  something viewers at home didn’t get to see.

“It was great,” SNL star/writer Seth Meyers tells OK!. “To watch Green Day and watch Will Ferrell with the cowbell, you can’t lose.”

While the hit finale only intensified the anticipation for next season, viewers aren’t the only ones who will be counting down till the fall.

“It is strange especially the end of a season like this, just to realize we’re not going to go in Monday and pitch ideas,” Seth says. “I’ve yet to cry at a finale but it’s always really emotional.”

And as for God making a cameo at the premiere?

“We may be just on the brink of Armageddon if that were to happen,” admits Jason. “That’s just a rumor, we’ll see.”

Bristol Speaks Up on Teen Pregnancy

May 7th, 2009

Bristol Palin just might be the most famous teen mom in the country right now, after  giving birth to son Tripp Johnston with boyfriend Levi Johnston. And now the daughter of Alaska governor Sarah Palin is working to educate her peers about the realities of becoming a mom at an early age.

Bristol, 18, joined Hayden Panettiere and others as the Candie’s Foundation hosted a town hall meeting on teen pregnancy prevention for National Teen Pregnancy Awareness Day in NYC.

“If I can prevent one teen from getting pregnant than I’ll complete some goals," she told reporters, reiterating her support of abstinence. “I think kids need to understand that it can happen to anyone. If you’re having sex, you have a possibility of getting pregnant. So I believe that staying abstinent is the only way you can prevent this from happening.”

PICS FROM THE EVENT:

Bristol also shared some of her experience of being a young mom, revealing that her life has gone in a different direction that she originally saw for herself.

“You don’t have friends. You can’t just go to the movies or go get your hair done or anything like that. You put your baby first and it’s your responsibility," she said during the meeting.  “I’m sure I would have been in college out of state, just traveling and hanging out with my friends and having a lot more freedom," she added of what her plans would’ve been without motherhood.

Bristol’s dad Todd Palin spoke exclusively to OK! about his daughter’s foray into public speaking.

“She did a great job. She understands that having a child at that age is a big responsibility and we’re proud of how she is as a mother," he told OK!.  “It comes from her heart. The same message the Candies Foundation shares, so if she could prevent one teenager from getting pregnant, than it’s a success.”

The former candidate for "First Dude" revealed that having Bristol and the baby at home has changed a few things.

"It’s a little busier around the house. We all chip in a little bit, but she’s taken charge of her responsibility.”

Hayden Panettiere’s Motherly Intentions

May 6th, 2009

Hayden Panettiere might still be a teenager herself, but this young actress seems to have a good head on her shoulders when it comes to teens and pregnancy. The Heroes actress joined teen mom Bristol Palin and others as the Candie’s Foundation hosted a town hall meeting on teen pregnancy prevention for National Teen Pregnancy Awareness Day in NYC.

The articulate star told OK! why she was speaking up on this important issue.

"I don’t think it’s something that’s talked about enough and I think that it’s just human nature to not realize the severity of an issue until it happens to you, until it directly impacts your life," she explained to OK!. "And you go, ‘I’ll never get pregnant. It will never happen to me. I know it happens but it won’t happen to me. I’ll never get in a car accident, I know it happens, but it won’t happen to me.’ Until it happens and then it’s too late.”

Hayden, who isn’t necessarily an abstinence only advocate, still had kind words for her fellow speaker, Bristol Palin.

"I think this is all politics aside here," she told OK!. "Different approaches to this topic, different opinions, but still saying the same thing – just to be safe, to be smart, to be educated and it was very brave of her to come up here and for the younger people to see someone their age going through it.”

The Heroes star was candid about her life plan during the town hall meeting, saying that a family is definitely in her future – somewhere farther along the road.

“I want a family. I want kids. I actually want a lot of kids. Not like ten, like four. And if it’s something that you go, ‘Oh I can’t wait to be a mom,’ that’s great, but think about it for your child and go, ‘I want to be a mom but I want to be the best mom I can be. And the only way to be the best mom I can be is by waiting until I’m no longer a child and waiting until I can teach them the best morals and raise them the best I can with a good education and a good platform. ‘ ”

Are we sure she’s only 19?

Jay Wants Whitney Back!

March 23rd, 2009

While The City star Whitney Port was spotted getting close with Lipstick Jungle hottie Robert Buckley last week at the Havaianas Spring Break event at the Shore Club, as OK! reported, her ex and reality show co-star Jay Lyons tells OK! he still wants her back!

“I think it was early for our relationship to end,” Jay told OK! at the One Is Greater Than None Benefit Concert on March 20 in NYC, where his band Tamarama played to help raise money to sponsor rescue missions to save children in Ghana, Africa.

When asked what he thought of Whit’s hookup with Robert, the Aussie rocker says he has no hard feelings.

“If that’s what she’s doing than great if she’s happy,” he says. “As long as she’s happy.”

Jay says he’s been in contact with Whitney and plans to stay in NYC for the next few months to work on his new album – and hopefully his relationship.

“At the moment we’re taking a bit of time for ourselves,” says Jay, who recently returned from tour. “When she gets back to New York we’ll see what happens. I definitely don’t want to give up on it.”

Filming for The City starts in a month, but will Whitney’s ex-boyfriend Jay be on the show if they’re not together? Jay’s not so sure.

“Music is the main priority right now and always will be,” he says. “If it works, it works; if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. We’ll move on.”

Stay tuned!

Celebs Weigh in on Stewart vs Cramer

March 20th, 2009

Yesterday marked the one-week anniversary of the Stewart vs Cramer showdown on Comedy Central, which pitted CNBCs Mad Money host Jim Cramer against the Daily Show’s Jon Stewart. While Cramer might have been trampled on by Stewart in the so-called debate, the feud is far from over and journalists are continuing to speak out about whose side they’re on.

"I just think Stewart is brilliant," Phil Donahue told OK! at the opening of the West Side Story revival Broadway March 19. "Here’s a man who’s got this wonderful comedic talent and all of the sudden he pulls the bow back and fires an arrow with a lot of political weight and zing and Im impressed with the combination. I just don’t think that many people can do that."

Others have yet to decide whom they’re siding with.

"I’m still trying to figure out which is the shark and which is the jet," political pundit and former Daily Show correspondent Mo Rocco tells OK!, while adding that Cramer is certainly not the underdog. "He’s tough. I mean have you ever seen his show? Cramer’s tough. And I dont think (the debate) was nasty. It was hearty."

On one side, CNBC’s Cramer has bow-tie fashionista Tucker Carlson and NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker publicly bashing Stewart. On the other side is Viacom CEO Philippe Daumann and most of the media who noted that after being repeatedly mocked by Stewart for faulty journalism on his show, Cramer failed to put up any fight when he finally faced his nemesis.

Everyone seems to agree that the comedic debate is good.

"People are frustrated," Rocca says. "And I think Jon has a great talent for channeling what a lot of people at home are feeling and are unable to articulate in public."

Let the debate continue!

Even Vampires Can Be Good!

March 18th, 2009

Not all vampires are bad – just ask Twilight star Ashley Greene!

The 22-year-old who plays clairvoyant blood sucker Alice Cullen, sister to Edward Cullen played by Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson, took a break from filming the sequel, New Moon, in Toronto to host the Donatemydress.org prom dress drive at Saks Fifth Ave in NYC March 14.

“I don’t think a lot of people realize how big a deal prom is to a 16-year-old girl,” Ashley tells OK!. “I think it’s something that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”

The Twilight star says she didn’t always have the fame and fortune that’s come with the film’s success.

“I had to buy my own dress and we didn’t have the money,” she told OK! at the event where she encouraged girls to donate their prom dress to girls in need. “I’ve borrowed dresses before so I kind of know what it’s like to be in that position. I’m lucky enough right now to not be as effected by our economic decline and there’s a lot of people who aren’t so lucky.”

Ashley made time for the event during her two-week break from filming New Moon, which is expected to be released in November 2009.

Fans can bid on dresses donated by Hollywood starlets including Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and Ashley!

Brooklyn Decker Branches Out

February 9th, 2009

Tennis star Andy Roddick’s smoking-hot fiancée, Sports Illustrated model Brooklyn Decker, 21, is snagging some of her own time in the spotlight, but that’s perfectly fine with Andy.

"I think in any relationship you have to be really supportive and we are so it’s good," Brooklyn told OK! at the 15th Annual Madden Bowl on Xbox 360 party.

The blonde bombshell, who will appear for the fourth time in Sports Illustrated’s annual swimsuit issue, which hits stands Feb. 10, has her first guest appearance on a primetime series on NBC’s hit show Chuck, where she stars with fellow S.I. models Jarah Mariano and Jessica Gomes.

"I took an acting class because I really didn’t want to embarrass myself, which I probably still did," says Brooklyn, who gets to slap show star Zachary Levi in the episode set to air in late Feb. "The guys, the cast and the director made it really easy on us."

Don’t count on Brooklyn leaving modeling anytime soon to pursue an acting career, however, like former S.I. beauties Molly Sims or Rebecca Romijn.

"If I don’t get kicked out of Hollywood because of this episode we’ll see," she says. "I think right now the modeling is going really well so we’ll see where this takes me."

The Ohio native, who was discovered as a teen and booked to shoot Sports Illustrated just a month after graduating high school, says she owes her success to the magazine.

"It was an out-of-body experience," she says of getting the call. "I was eighteen out of high school believe it or not, and since then I established a career."

She can also thank the magazine for introducing her to future fiancé Andy, 26, who was flipping through an issue when he spotted Brooklyn and had his agent track down her number back in 2007. On March 31, 2008, Andy announced on his website the two were engaged.

Since then, Brooklyn’s been at Andy’s side, cheering him on at tennis matches, including their most recent trip down under to the Australian Open, where Andy had a successful run until losing to Roger Federer in the semifinals on Jan. 29.

Andy may have hundreds of teen girls cheering for him with "We Love Andy" signs and tee-shirts, but Brooklyn says she prefers to be a quite supporter.

"He would kill me if I did that!" Brooklyn says. "I go as myself when I’m there to support him and I have a huge liking of tennis so it’s fun."

While having a gorgeous swimsuit model on the sideline might be distracting for some, for Andy, she only helps.

"I think he’s relaxed," Brooklyn says of Andy seeing her at matches. "I think we make each other relaxed so it’s good."

John Mayer Talks About Aniston Split

August 16th, 2008

When OK! caught up with John Mayer in NYC on Saturday, not only did the singer admit that he and Jennifer Aniston are no longer together — the normally obtuse star actually spoke openly about the split.

"It’s the most normal thing in the world," John says. "There’s no lying there’s no cheating. There’s no nothing."

John also had nothing but the kindest words for his ex. "Jennifer Aniston is the smartest, most sophisticated person I think I’ve ever met," he explained. "She’s one of the most lovely people I’ve ever met in my life."

So what went wrong? "People have different chemistry, they have different lives," says John. "It’s not about years, it’s about going out with somebody, being truthful on the way in, being truthful in the middle and being truthful on the way out. You’re either a cheater or you break up and I’m not the first, I’m the second. And that’s it. There’s no lying, there’s no bullsh**."

And according to John, it was him that called a halt to their romance. "I ended a relationship because there was no lying," he explained to OK!. "I ended a relationship to be alone because I don’t want to waste somebody’s time if something’s not right. I don’t waste people’s time. I don’t do the taper. I guarantee you there’s 20 percent of the people on the street right now who are in a relationship they wish they could get out of but they don’t know how. And I’m going to be honest on the way in to my relationships and I’m going to be honest on the way out of my relationships."

"I’m sorry that the story’s not interesting," John tells OK!. "But it’s about time that somebody stands up for that girl and I think she’s great."

As for the news that Jen has already moved on and begun seeing another man, John shrugged, "I don’t care."
