JT Will Never Be Unemployed

June 11th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Justin Timberlake doesn’t seem to need any help when it comes to his career, but if he ever needs a fall back, the folks at Saturday Night Live say they’ll give him a shot!

“If his music career goes into the crapper, we will definitely get him an audition,” SNL’s Jason Sudeikis tells OK!. “No freebies, everybody had to audition. He may choke in the audition process.”

Justin, 28, who’s been one of the show’s most popular hosts – especially with his memorable music video collaborations “Dick In A Box” and “Mother Lover” with SNL’s Andy Samberg, has impressed some of the show’s biggest stars.

“He’s got the chops!” SNL regular Fred Armisen tells OK!.

The singer also made an impression on creator Lorne Michaels.

“I think he’s great at it,” says Lorne, who admits there’s one thing standing in the way from asking Justin to make comedy a fulltime gig. “I don’t think he could afford to be a regular!”

Julia Roberts Upstages Tom Hanks

April 28th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Almost every movie star who is any movie star attends The Film Society’s Gala Tribute to Honor Tom Hanks held Monday at NYC’s Alice Tully Hall.

A dizzying array of A-listers including Julia Roberts, Charlize Theron, Adrien Brody, Glenn Close, Sally Field and Steven Spielberg are greeted with hoots and hollers when they enter the building.

“I feel like it’s my birthday,” Pretty Woman Julia says when she hears the cheers. The mom of three, 41, cuts a slim figure and is the essence of effortless glamour.

Why did the allure of Tom Hanks steal the Oscar winner from twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, 4, and Henry, 22 months, this evening?

“He’s a great, sort of quintessential actor,” Julia says. “He does campy comedies from Bosom Buddies, where I fell madly in love with him, to a movie like Castaway. Someone says ‘what is Tom like?’ and I say ‘oh, he’s what you’d want him to be.’”

Charlize Theron seconds that thought. “He’s just very sincere, and he lives a very truthful life,” the Oscar winner, 32, tells me. “He’s never kind of done anything that wasn’t authentic to him, and I so appreciate that about him.” The blond beauty, wearing steep heels, just returned from Salma Hayek’s weekend wedding in Venice. “It was beautiful,” she tells me. Favorite thing she did in Italy? “I ate lots of pasta.”

Adrien Brody is also adjusting from jet lag, but doesn’t let that stop him from honoring Mr. Hanks. “I just woke up from a flight,” the sleepy-headed Oscar winner, 36, tells me. “Tom’s obviously an incredible actor, and someone who has worked incredibly hard. I think his kindness and his spirit shines through in the performances, and it gives him a sense that I think everyone feels very familiar with him and a connection to him. I think he’s an impressive man.”

Here comes Tom Hanks, the self-deprecating man of the evening, cracking jokes and making punch lines every step of the way. “My joke is I think I’ve made about twenty-five movies, and I think four of them are pretty good,” the two-time Oscar winner, 52, says with wife Rita Wilson, 52, at his side. “Listen, I’m a lucky man. I’ll take a free dinner.”

What’s the best advice he’s given his son? “Always wear a fresh shirt, and don’t try to sweat in it too much,” Colin Hanks, 31, tells me.

Ron Howard, Saturday Night Live writer/producer Lorne Michaels, Christy Turlington and hubby Ed Burns, John Leguizamo and wife Justine dash to their seats just in time for the tribute to begin.

Turns out, Julia lets loose with a tirade of F-bombs all in good fun. Who knew?!

No SNL for Robert Pattinson

April 5th, 2009

We hate to disappoint all you Robert Pattinson fans out there, but you’ll have to wait to see him hosting Saturday Night Live.

The Internet has been buzzing with rumors that the Twilight hottie would be the celebrity guest on an upcoming episode of the long-running sketch comedy show.

However, SNL’s head honcho, Lorne Michaels, tells OK! that the show won’t be getting an infusion of vampire blood just yet.

“Not this season,” he said at Natural Resources Defense Council 11th annual Forces For Nature benefit in NYC. "We’re all locked in with the hosts for this year."

MORE PHOTOS OF ROBERT:

But is there hope that Rob will be palling around with cast members Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig in the future?

“Yeah, yeah, of course,” he said.

But Edward Cullen isn’t exactly known for his sense of humor — and RPatts is notoriously awkward off screen.

So would he make a good host? "Don’t know," admits Lorne. "You never know.”

Sarah Palin’s Favorite Baldwin

October 21st, 2008

Watch out, Joe the plumber, Stephen Baldwin is coming for you!

After VP candidate, Sarah Palin joked on Saturday Night Live on Oct. 18 that she favored Stephen over Alec Baldwin, the chosen brother feels like he’s got to fight for her love.

"After Joe the Plumber and all the hype he’s getting, it’s making me think that to be the number one Republican kind of poster boy, I have to challenge Joe the Plumber to a UFC Smackdown," he tells Extra in an interview airing tonight.

"[I] thought she was hilarious, a good sport," he adds of the Alaska governor’s performance on the live comedy show. "I think [John] McCain was brilliant in choosing Sarah Palin because now SNL’s ratings this past Saturday were [their] highest in 14 years."

Check out OK!’s Tina Fey vs Sarah Palin gallery!

Okay so we know who Sarah likes more, but who does Stephen think is funnier when it comes to Alec and the VP nom?

"Come on, what do you expect me to say? He’s my brother," he says, pausing. "Sarah Palin, no question."

Amy Poehler Sets Date for SNL Exit

September 17th, 2008

Seven seasons after she joined the cast of Saturday Night Live, Amy Poehler is set to make her good-byes to the show after the election in November. But in typical Amy form, even leaving a beloved job is a chance for a joke.

"It’s gonna be really hard – Boyz II Men hard – to say goodbye to yesterday," Amy tells Men’s Vogue. "SNL was dangerous, late-night, last-minute, and star-studded, but like any good drug, you need to know when to put it down."

The Weekend Update co-anchor and spot-on Hillary Clinton impersonator will surely  be missed – when asked recently what it will be like to lose Amy on the show, SNL creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels said  "For me, devastating."

After the birth of her baby with fellow comedian and husband Will Arnette in October, Amy will move on to a mockumentary style show made by the producers of The Office. Amy says she finds herself using the P.E. or "Pregnancy Excuse" to get out of parties early.

"My baby drops in October," she says, "and everybody’s got to go out and get it."

Michael Phelps on SNL: I’m Confident

September 11th, 2008

On Saturday night in front of a live TV audience, Olympic golden boy Michael Phelps will face a new trial, he has yet to conquer: hosting Saturday Night Live.

Many have gone before him, including one of his idols, Chris Farley, but Michael feels up to the challenge.

"I was nervous coming into here, I had no idea what to expect," he tells OK!. "But after the read throughs yesterday, after the first few, I started getting into it and started warming up a little bit."

"I’m just going to run through some stuff before Saturday and I’m confident with what’s coming up," he adds. Despite his assuredness, the medal winning athlete does admit to having a slight case of the nerves ahead of his big TV appearance.

"I’m probably more nervous doing this than I was swimming in Beijing, I’ll tell you that," he confesses to OK!.

While he may be a little worried, others around him having nothing but good things to say about his upcoming hosting duties.

"Michael’s been great, and no matter what happens, they can’t take those medals away," show creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels tells OK!.

And while Lorne won’t say that Michael is any funnier than any other athlete they’ve had host, he still has plenty of praise for the 23-year-old swimmer.

"I must say that you can tell right away when we start to read things both by performance and… where people laugh or if they laugh, and you can tell right away that there’s no question about him getting it, and also being funny and knowing what to do in the piece."

Does this mean Michael has a future in live comedy TV? Maybe not.

"He’s not suddenly going to be a professional sketch player," adds Lorne, "but I think he’s going to do just fine."

His fellow Olympic colleague Amanda Beard also had positive things to say about Michael’s SNL gig, telling OK! recently, "I’m personally really excited to see how he does, so I wish him the best of luck and I hope he just has a lot of fun with it."

See how Michael does on SNL this Saturday, Sept. 13 on NBC, with musical guest Lil Wayne.

Amy Poehler’s SNL Departure Leaves Cast “Heartbroken”

July 21st, 2008

Saturday Night Live star Will Forte has resigned himself to losing his co-star Amy Poehler by season’s end next year. The funnywoman is expecting her first child this fall with husband Will Arnett and is then moving on to The Office spinoff, set for a post-Super Bowl debut.

“I’m heartbroken to lose Amy, but she couldn’t be leaving [SNL] for a better reason, which is motherhood and a great show,” Will tells OK!  “Greg Daniels and Mike Schur, who are creating the [Office] spinoff show, are both SNL vets as well.”

SNL head honcho Lorne Michaels is slightly more optimistic though about retaining the comedienne, who became the first female SNL star to nab a Supporting Actress Emmy nomination last week.

"You never know [if she'll come back]," Lorne tells OK!. "It’s always day-to-day in our world."

One thing’s for sure though — pregnancy won’t slow the 36-year-old down, especially since she anchors Weekend Update, where her belly can be easily concealed behind a desk.

“I don’t think a few extra pounds are going to make Amy any less funny,” Will says. “And she’s good at generating material. We know, at the very least, we’ll have her at the desk, and then whatever more she can do for us will be great."

Maternity leave for the actress hasn’t been set in stone yet, but Amy can already look forward to some traditional SNL baby gifts.

"We give them a baby bowl," Lorne says. "It has the name on it. And other things. A house, decorate it, send the kid to school."
