Shannen: 90210 Has No Luck With Luke

September 25th, 2008

When it became official that Dylan McKay knocked up Kelly Taylor, rumors swirled that the new 90210 may get a visit from fan-favorite Luke Perry. Without trying to step in the middle of the Dylan-Kelly relationship like she did in the old days, Brenda, er, Shannen Doherty says it’s not happening.

“I heard today that he emphatically said no,” Doherty tells OK! at the Rock Band 2 on Xbox 360 launch party at the old 90210 beach house in Hermosa Beach, California.

The actress who just completed her four-episode stint know just how writers can work around Luke’s absence.

“[Kelly Taylor] can be a single mom,” she says. “He’s out of her life, maybe she goes and visits him and comes back and says ‘I want to raise this child on my own.’

Now that her run is over (although she says there is a chance she may return) Doherty is sticking to video games.

“I’m a huge fan,” she says of Rock Band 2. “ I don’t really like to go out anymore, and I live by the beach so all my friends come to my house for the weekend. This is what we do. We’re dorks. We love it and we play our XBOX 360 and just jam.”

TV Recap: Make Me a Supermodel’s Ben and SVU’s Tamara Tunie

August 1st, 2008

This week, it was all about the clothes.

Wednesday night I attended Gen Art’s SHOP NYC, a killa shopping sale featuring pieces from hip, emerging designers and stores.

I scored a sweet bubble skirt by Hunter Dixon (love the name!). One Tree Hill’s Sophia Bush is also a fan of their girly designs.

Where there are cool clothes, there’s usually hot models, so it wasn’t too much of a surprise to  spot Make Me a Supermodel finalist Ben DiChara milling around.

But it was a shock to see him with his wife April. The couple actually survived the Bronnie bromance, yeah!

April revealed to me that she has relocated to New York City so her hubby can keep pursuing his modeling career. She’s now working as a music teacher.

I also learned that the former corrections officer might be returning to TV. He worked the New York City open casting calls last week for Make Me a Supermodel 2.

Unfortunately, the runner-up wasn’t that impressed with the turnout.

“We [the contestants from season one] were all hyper and crazy, and we’re trying to find somebody to fill that void.” he told me.

“So far we haven’t had anyone like that yet.”

Better luck in Seattle, Bravo!

Earlier in the week, I attended a designer clothing swap fundraiser for the Obama campaign, sponsored by Steel Petal Media.

I ran into Law and Order: SVU’s Tamara Tunie, who was totally psyched about having 90210 alum Luke Perry guest star on the series.

“I think he’s still a hottie," she exclaimed.

Tamara donated a fierce Carmen Marc Valvo gown to the swap.

“It has this ’60s retro feel that’s very much about a woman’s body, the way it hugs the curves," she explained.

You know I had to snag it. Check out my new designer duds in the pic.

Until next week, fellow fanatics!

Lori Loughlin: No Shannen Doherty in 90210 Spinoff

May 23rd, 2008

Jennie Garth may want Shannen Doherty to return for the 90210 spinoff, but Lori Loughlin sure doesn’t.

“I don’t think Shannen will. No.” the actress tells OK!. “I don’t think anyone wants to touch that.”

But the show will embrace Tori Spelling with open arms. Donna Martin’s real-life alter ego has been angling for a role in the CW series since the news was announced. But Tori, who’s due next month with her second child, may need to take a short maternity leave first.

“I think they are waiting for her to have her baby and then they’re going to - there’s definitely a role for her though in the pilot, like a small little cameo thing which will be fun,” Lori says. “But then I think they’ll have her back.”

The 43-year-old has also heard “rumblings” of Luke Perry returning, but claims to not know much else. Having already talked to Jennie about the show, the star now can hardly wait to start production on June 25.

“I’m so excited. I’ve seen a script. It’s good," she says. "I really like it. It’s definitely the contemporary 90210. It’s touching on what teenagers are going through nowadays, which is a little bit — I don’t want to say faster, but they are definitely exposed to more at this time. Kids today, they have a lot to handle. They grow up so fast.”

Couch Potato: Dirty Jobs’ Mike Rowe

October 23rd, 2007

I like my men dirty. So I couldn’t resist having Mike Rowe, star of Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs, stop by the office. The show is celebrating its 150th show tonight by hosting a brown-tie gala event for some of its most memorable guests. “Our guests are being chaffuered in on garbage trucks and we’ve rolled out the nice brown carpet,” Mike shared. “It’s everything a celebrity would hate, and secretly we love it.”

Mike’s daily descent into the country’s grittiest gigs has made him some A-list fans, including Luke Perry and Winona Ryder. “A makeup artist I was doing a shoot with had worked with Winona the day before and told me that she had made some dirty job suggestions for me,” Mike said. Lifestyle expert Sandra Lee swears that Mike is the sexiest man on TV. “I’ve been covered in a lot of poo from a lot of species, including ours,” Mike laughed, adding that stepping into jobs he knows little about, “makes me vulnerable, and I don’t try and hide it. It may be that.”

Sitting next to the 6’ ft. host with the bellowing baritone voice, I have to say Mike does clean up nicely. His secret? “Water as hot as you can stand it. Scrub with lava soap till its pink and when it hurts, do a little more.” He’s also got great family values, dedicating his series his to his dad and grandfather, men who worked with their hands on a daily basis. “They fished, farmed and crawled through rivers of stinky stuff,” said the former opera singer and actor, who sheepishly admitted that he initially got into performing because “I didn’t want to do the kind of jobs my grandfather and father had… Now I’m doing the same things they used to do. So I’m up to my neck in irony.”

That’s better than a lot of other things Mike’s been up to his neck in! Dirty Jobs, 150th anniversary, airs Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 9 p.m. on Discovery.
