Kellan Lutz Spills about New Moon Set

July 2nd, 2009 / Author: matt

You know, sometimes amid all this Robert Pattinson Mania, we forget just how darn hot his Twilight and New Moon co-star Kellan Lutz is. Shame on us!

But a photo shoot he just did with heiress and model Lydia Hearst for Social Life magazine has certainly reminded us.

Check out this excerpt from the accompanying interview from their July 4th issue to find out how Kellan gets those abs, and what it’s like to work up-close with (gasp!) R-Patts himself!

What is your typical day like on the set of New Moon, the sequel to Twilight?

New Moon was a very relaxed film to work on and it all starts with how easy going director Chris Wietz is. That vibe rolls down to the crew and actors. It makes it so easy when we’ve all worked together before. Everything was so well organized, making it easy for the actors to do our job. We had more time to just laugh and make jokes and hang out; it’s important to have a cast that gels the way we do and you’ll see that more in the second film.

The entire cast of Twilight and New Moon has gone from Hollywood new faces to overnight international sensations – has that been a bonding experience for all of you?

It’s amazing what Twilight has done for the cast! It has opened up so many doors for us all.  It is such a blessing to be a part of the phenomenon that is Twilight. It’s a dream come true!  We are all very close and stay close on set as well as off.  We play board games, go out to dinner and just hang out.  It’s amazing to be able to work with such a talented group of actors.

How did you prepare to play Emmett in New Moon?

I prepared a lot by delving into the back-story for my character, Emmett, that I created while shooting the first movie so I just picked up that same notebook again for New Moon and added a little more to what I thought embodied this character. I find it easy to get in the role; Emmett is the perfect match for me. I do love creating a back-story for characters; it helps you transform into the role and it makes it yours.

Where do you see yourself in five or ten years?

I’d like to continue acting for as long as possible. I truly love it and I am lucky that not only is it my career but it’s something I really enjoy doing so it doesn’t feel like work. Hopefully in ten years, I’ll have an amazing family with a beautiful wife and little Kellan’s running around to play football with.

With your physique having garnered so much attention, can you give our readers some tips on keeping fit?

There’s a lot of advice that I could give but what works for one person might not work for another. I just exercise regularly and try to eat healthy. There’s no method to my madness. High protein meals are important and I love eggs and chicken so I try to eat that almost every day that I can.  I love fruits so I always have fruit in my kitchen to snack on. I would suggest finding some sort of cardio that you enjoy. I hate running so for me it’s swimming. Stay as active as possible and don’t just sit in front of the television; do push ups or sit ups during the commercials. Even a little hard work goes a long way.

Kellan Lutz and Lydia Hearst will host Social Life’s glamorous Gatsby: American Royalty party, sponsored by Kwiat Diamonds, at the magazine’s Hamptons estate on July 4th.

Stars Share New Year’s Resolutions

January 1st, 2009

A New Year is time for a new you, and stars are revamping their outlooks. What are their resolutions?

Julianne Hough says, “Keeping my skin fresh and not tanning so much. I won’t have to so much when I take the season off from Dancing With The Stars, so I can keep my face fresh.”

Emma Roberts is practical. “Probably just to eat healthier and get more sleep,” she tells me. “I have a problem where if I start thinking about something, I’m up all night just thinking and can’t go to sleep.”

“I’m always 15 minutes late, so I’m going to try and wake up 15 minutes earlier,” Natasha Bedingfield says.

Gabrielle Union is going to stop obsessing. “I think I worry too much, and put too much emphasis on ‘Oh my God, she’s an eight, or oh no, she’s a double-zero.’ You know what, do your thing. If you look like one of the 90210 girls, then God bless you. And if you are a 12, God forbid – that’s illegal in the county of Los Angeles – then go with that. Do you and keep it moving.”

Gossip Girl’s Lydia Hearst has her list ready. “Honestly, to remain happy and healthy and maintain good friendships and be able to be back in the City more and do more charity work with God’s Love We Deliver,” she tells me. “I work in the kitchen.”

Jesse McCartney says, “I always procrastinate and put things off to the last second.  Maybe that should be my resolution. Stop procrastinating.”

Jake T. Austin is under the parental influence. “My mom really wants me to try not to argue with my sister,” the Wizards of Waverly Place star, who appears in January’s Hotel For Dogs, tells me. “I don’t know how long that’s going to last, but I’ll try as hard as I can.”

Darius Rucker is also thinking family. “I’m going to make the same one I make every year, that I’m going to get in much better shape and I’m going to start breaking that around January 2. I think next year I’m going to try to make a resolution to stay home a little more. I’m going to try and see the family more next year.”

Jake Owen seconds that notion. “I think it’s going to be to call home more just because I think everybody should do that. Time flies, and I seem to sometimes go a week or two without talking to my mom and dad. I want to make sure that I keep up with them.”

Lena Olin, who appears in The Reader with Kate Winslet, doesn’t think big just once a year. “I start every day with a resolution. I try to make the most of every day I wake up, so New Year’s – I start out fresh every day. I have a lot of ambition in my life. Personal. To make the most of every day.”

“We’re all going to try and sit back with our families and soak this up and reflect,” Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley tells me. “Be thankful.”

Lady’s Hillary Scott adds, “Keep dreaming big, too. I think always if you put it out there and you say it, it can happen. We just try to stay optimistic and make goals and I think this dreaming big.”

The Dish host Danielle Fishel uses a slogan for each year. “I tend to not make resolutions because I think you tend to set yourself up for failure, but what I do is I make a statement about whatever I want this year to be for me. Last year, my statement was ‘no fear’ so anything that scared me –  such as going back to school – it scared me, and I did it anyway. This year I’m not exactly sure what my positive affirmation is going to be, but I think it’s going to be career-based.”

Some are not so serious.

“Always wear socks with boots,” Ashanti laughs.

And some are opting out. “I don’t make resolutions because I’m not good at keeping promises,” Damien Fahey tells me.

Be sure to make the most of your 2009.

Stars Step Out For ‘Australia’

November 26th, 2008

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are greeted by shrieks when they arrive at 6:20 p.m. for the Australia premiere held at NYC’s Ziegfeld Theatre.

Why should we see this epic World War II drama shot in the Northern Territory and Western Australia – featured in my Australia travel story in the OK! out now?

“It celebrates love and it celebrates life, and I think that sort of thing is good for the world right now,” Sunday Rose’s mom says, with hubby Keith on her arm.

Heavily pregnant Naomi Watts, Famke Janssen, Helena Christensen, John Leguizamo, Padma Lakshmi and Ashleigh Banfield troll through. Lydia Hearst and Kelsey Grammer chat.

Here’s Olivia Newton-John, who is lovingly holding hubby John Easterling. What does she miss most about Australia?

“The bird songs in the air because there are more species of birds – and you don’t realize until you leave there – how much song there is in the air that you don’t hear here and you don’t hear anywhere else,” she tells me. “There’s a sense of freedom and beauty in Australia that there is nowhere else.”

Hugh Jackman waves, and wife Deborra-Lee Furness jokes about his swelling ego. “I always thought he was the sexiest man alive,” she laughs.

Director Baz (rhymes with “jazz,” his rep says - ha!) Luhrmann reveals a precious moment he shared with Nicole.

“There’s a big scene that happens under that boab tree, and I bring it back to do close-ups,” he says. “She said to me [flails hands] … Whenever she does this thing with her hands, it’s like she has a fan. I’m like ‘yes, dear one?’ She said ‘I’m pregnant.’ And she burst into tears. I was tearful, too.”

How has Nicole changed since she welcomed daughter Sunday Rose in July?

“She’s changed, but she doesn’t change,” Baz reveals. “She grows, she matures, she learns, we learn, we become more mature with each other. She cuts to the chase more. Time wasting is the greatest lesson of life, I think. How not to waste time, because it’s the most precious commodity.”

Australia is in theaters now.

And, pick up the OK! out now (cover line: “Reese Witherspoon: Back On Top!”) to read about my Australian Outback adventure pegged to the sights you’ll see in this film.

My trip to Northern Territory and Western Australia was out of this world. I stayed in wildlife luxury accommodations such as Bamurru Plains (it was see-through, but they said the animals couldn’t see inside), Bullo River Station, El Questro Homestead (Kylie Minogue’s favorite. I could ’ve spent the rest of my life in their Zebedee Springs!), Home Valley Station and Moonshadow Villas.

My trip was jampacked with scenic cruises, crocodile spotting, waterfall swims, private planes, helicopter flights, horseback riding and Aboriginal art. And, I ate crocodile and saw wallabys. I greatly enjoyed the pink diamonds at Kimberley Fine Diamonds in Kununurra. Hugh Jackman even went crocodile-spotting at the owner’s home. Loved it!

Lydia Hearst Kisses Off Aubrey Make-Out Rumors

August 6th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Lydia Hearst doesn’t think we should have our panties in a twist about her very public make-out session with Danity Kane’s Aubrey O’Day at Butter Monday night.

“It actually wasn’t for real,” the heiress told OK! last night at FreshPair.com’s National Underwear Day party at Espace. “It was for the paparazzi and they didn’t know it was a joke.”

In fact, Lydia claims, the smooches were also meant for a camera of a different sort. “We were actually shooting a film directed by Tara Subkoff out in the fall.” Given the Imitation of Christ designer’s quirkiness and the hot starlet steam-fest, our curiosity is peaked.

LYDIA HEARST NOT Returning to GOSSIP GIRL

August 6th, 2008

For any Gossip Girl fan dying to see the aftermath of the hookup between Chuck Bass and interior decorator Amelia, played by real-life socialite Lydia Hearst, I’ve got bad news, it ain’t happening.

"I actually will not be returning to Gossip Girl," the heiress revealed to me while hosting the 6th annual National Underwear Day party sponsored by freshpair.com at New York City venue Espace last night.

(We always knew Chuck was a love ‘em and leave ‘em kind of guy.)

So the Upper East side playa is on his own again, but Chuck shouldn’t be so sure he can pick up where he so rudely left off with Blair.

This season, Blair will get chummy with Marcus, a boy she meets on her solo holiday. (Should have made it to Teterboro, Chuck!)

But back to the socialites… One may be crossed off the GG list, but there’s always room for another. Fashion designer/gal about town Tinsley Mortimer is slated to appear in this season’s opener.

Hopefully Lydia, who is currently taking acting classes, will be back for another GG cameo at some point in the future.

Gossip Girl, season two, rolls out on Monday, Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. on The CW.

Gossiping With Lydia Hearst

July 22nd, 2008

Lydia Hearst is more than just a pretty face now that she’s joined the cast of Gossip Girl. The 23-year-old model-turned-actress starts her day at Starbucks with a triple grande skinny vanilla latte before heading to the set.

“It’s pretty exciting to be joining the cast especially after being labeled the real-life inspiration, though I’m not sure which character I inspired, especially since I didn’t grow up in Manhattan,” Lydia tells me.

The cast, which includes her BFF Michelle Trachtenberg, goes out for dinner and drinks together.

“Everybody really is good friends both on- and off-set,” she tells me. “Nobody is like their characters. They’re not catty, they’re not petty, they don’t argue at all. Blake and her boyfriend are absolutely lovely together. I was a little surprised to learn that Ed was English. On set, he has the whole New York accent being all suave, and then we get offset and he’s sussed out in his English rocker accent.”

She beams with pride about boyfriend Matt Rains, who is a Black Hawk fighter pilot deployed to Iraq. Matt is the brother of Heatherette designer Trevor Rains. She says they had an “instant connection,” and enjoy bowling, botanical gardens and walking through Central Park together.

Does she have a quirky side?

“Most people buy shoes and clothing, but I buy a lot of DVDs,” Lydia tells me. “It’s impossible to choose my favorite. I love every single genre from documentaries, horror, comedy, drama, 80s, classic, I have it all. The last one I saw was Roxanne.”

Lydia Hearst: I’m No Paris!

May 30th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

If you think that Paris Hilton is the model for all the exceedingly wealthy, young, blonde heiresses out there, you’d be sadly mistaken — or at least that’s what Lydia Hearst would have you believe.

When OK! caught up with the 23-year-old model/actress/designer/gal-about-town at the Step Up Women’s Network 10th Anniversary Inspiration Awards Gala in NYC on Thursday, she was more than willing to break down just how different she and her fellow celebutante truly are.

"I went to college," Lydia, who attended Sacred Heart University, tells OK!. "I’m a supermodel. I have a legitimate career in journalism, television, fashion and designing."

And then, the great-granddaughter of publishing giant William Randolph Hearst (and great-great-granddaughter of mining magnate George Hearst) appeared to take a catty swipe at Paris’ entire family lineage, saying, "I’m a Hearst, not a Hilton!"
