Katie Holmes: Suri Sleeps Through the Night!

January 15th, 2008

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise hit the jackpot when it came to getting a good night’s sleep as parents. While most tots wake their parents up at the crack of dawn, 20-month-old Suri likes to sleep in.

"She goes to sleep pretty late because we go to sleep late," Katie revealed on Monday’s The Late Show With David Letterman. "[She goes to sleep] around 11 p.m. and [wakes up] about 9 a.m."

Suri doesn’t always wake up by herself though. Wanting to spend every moment with her daughter, Katie, who called motherhood "magical," admitted to often cozying up to her snoozing baby during naps to "stare and kind of kiss her and see if maybe she’ll wake up."

The 29-year-old Mad Money star has high hopes for her baby girl — in show business. Although many celebrity parents try to steer their offspring away from the entertainment industry, Katie is all for it.

"I’m excited. She’s so smart. She’s already talking a lot and you can see she’s already a wonderful artist," she says. "And whatever she wants to do — if she wants to, great. If she doesn’t, okay."

As for her own dreams, Katie fulfilled one of them in November when she ran in the New York City Marathon, as first reported by OK!. Inspired by her father and brother, who competed in the Boston Marathon 15 years ago, the actress decided back in August to finally have a go at it herself

"I loved it. It was hard — very hard, but I loved seeing New York City that way," Katie, who listened to Kanye West’s "Stronger" for the last six miles, says. "And Tom and Suri met me at mile 18 and I really wanted to get in the car at that moment. I really did. Luckily they pushed me through."

And though she has no plans to participate in the Boston Marathon this spring, Katie assures that she’s not hanging up her running shoes just yet. "I may try a different one."

Exclusive Interview: Katie Holmes

January 14th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

After getting married to Tom Cruise and giving birth to her daughter, Suri, now 21 months, Katie Holmes was faced with an even bigger challenge — hatching a plan to rob the Federal Reserve!

The 29-year-old actress teams up with Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah to form a gang of unlikely thieves in the new comedy Mad Money. And OK! had the chance to sit down with Katie in Santa Monica, Calif., to talk all about her experiences on the set of the flick, which hits theaters on Jan. 18.

OK!: You had great onscreen chemistry with Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah.
KATIE HOLMES: I was pleasantly surprised. We bonded in the makeup trailer. We spoke about everything and I was happy to spend that time in the makeup chair. My hair took longer than it’s ever taken for anything I’ve ever done… (Our chats were) fascinating and wonderful. It was hard to leave.

Did you have a job where you felt invisible?
I had my own lawn service when I was growing up. I cut my mom’s friends’ grass. But I never felt invisible because my mom, who is the best mom in the world, had a station wagon and I convinced her to drag me and the lawn mower. I was on the back. God forbid I had to walk to my job! It was great. I felt like the lawn keeper of the neighborhood, but I only had about four houses. I think (I did it) for about two summers,

How did you deal with the constant paparazzi presence?
You’re always aware of it and I wanted to make sure that the set was being taken care of and it wasn’t bothering anybody else because I get used to being aware, and you want to just protect everyone around you.

Do you think you’ll run another marathon?
Maybe. Not right away. I’m still recovering… (During the New York Marathon) I was turning that left-hand corner where they’re gonna tell you it’s mile 20 and that point you feel like you’ve just been running for days. And I heard the guy in front of me tell his friend, "Don’t worry! Six more! Six more!" And I’m thinking, "Six more? That’s an hour on a good day!"

You flew pizza in from Chicago for the cast and crew. Are you a foodie?
I’m from Ohio. I’m a Midwestern girl and I like food. We talked a lot about it… We’ve eaten in restaurants all over and we were constantly talking about the club sandwiches at this hotel and so on. I never forget a good meal, ever, and I think about it often. So we flew in the pizza. You wanna make your working environment joyful.

Did anybody return the favor?

Diane bought us this coconut cake. I walk into my trailer one day and there’s a box, unopened, with my name on it. It was one of the best days, ever. And it was this massive, fluffy coconut cake with white chocolate chip.

Katie Holmes: Suri’s a Handful!

January 14th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

Actress and mom Katie Holmes made the NYC talk-show circuit Monday morning, heading first over to Good Morning America, where the 29-year-old talked openly about what a handful her 20-month-old daughter Suri has turned into now that she’s walking and talking.

"She’s always saying, ‘Who’s that? Who’s that?’" the star of the upcoming Mad Money recalled. Katie also described a visit with Suri and hubby Tom Cruise to legendary Big Apple toy store FAO Schwartz. "We got in, running around, eating ice cream and playing with all of the toys, and Tom and I were playing with a lot of the toys ourselves."

And while Katie wouldn’t call her adorable daughter, who will turn 2 in April, strong-willed, she did say, "She’s very strong. And bright… She picks out some of her clothes, and she loves running around. She’s beautiful. Very smart."

Then it was over to Live With Regis & Kelly, where Katie revealed that little Suri already has expressed an interest in snowboarding, something the rest of the Cruise clan enjoyed doing together over their Christmas holiday in Colorado.

And when OK! got a chance to ask Katie if she’s planning on expanding her brood, which includes Tom’s two children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman, the former Dawson’s Creek star coyly said, "We’re enjoying our family right now."

So is there the possibility of having another little Cruise running around the house? We’ll just have to wait and see!

OK! Interview: Queen Latifah

January 12th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

She’s sold millions of albums, won an Emmy and a Golden Globe and been nominated for an Oscar. But even all that wasn’t enough to prepare the soulful singer and actress for working alongside screen legend Diane Keaton and Mrs. Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, in the upcoming film Mad Money.

OK! recently had the chance to talk to Latifah about her experiences making the heist comedy, which hits theaters Jan. 18.

Was it intimidating working with a veteran like Diane Keaton?
Whenever you work with someone who has been doing it as long and as successfully and as wonderfully as she has, there’s always a little bit of awe. Or a touch of fear, or a touch of intimidation. Not really enough to affect what I do, but I really am enamored of her. I’d watch her gear up for a scene, and I’d watch how she got herself there, I thought it was just so cool. For me, it’s not so much intimidating as it’s an opportunity to learn.

How did you enjoy working with Katie Holmes?
She’s just cool. She had this quirky character to play and she just fit right into it. As a person, she’s just a really sweet, kind of laidback person. She’s strong at the same time. She’s opinionated about stuff. And kind of, like, flirty.

It’s quite funny because my character hadn’t had sex in god knows how long and she kept jumping on that thing like, "What? I think you should do it! Really?" She kept hitting me with that, and it was hilarious to me! We all worked well together, and she was the perfect fit. As soon as we had her, we had us a movie, and it seemed to feel right.

In Mad Money, you, Diane and Katie steal tons of cash. Did it give you naughty thoughts?
I think everyone, somewhere in there, who works hard and pays taxes and works hard in this country wishes in some way that they could get away with it! I think everyone has walked into cash a check at the bank or deposit some money and thought, ‘Hmmm… What if I robbed this bank?’ You don’t do it, obviously… But you think about it because you know somebody did it. And you see movies.

What was it like playing a single mother?
My mother was a single parent so I didn’t have to go far for research. With a lot of things, I seem to be able to tap right into my own family, into my mom’s experience with my dad and find things that I need… We were just that affectionate family, so I really wanted to have that with my boys.

Baby #2 Coming Soon For TomKat?

October 31st, 2007 / Author: cwillett

As Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes prepare to ring in their first year together as man and wife on Nov. 18, a source close to the superstar couple reveals exclusively to OK! that 18-month-old Suri might have a sibling by their second anniversary!

“I expect we’ll see Kate pregnant again within the year,” the source tells OK!. And the timing could be perfect for the 28-year-old actress, who is in the early stages of publicizing her upcoming film Mad Money. And with no definite projects lined up for the spring, she and Tom have time to focus on expanding their family.

Meanwhile, between baby Suri and Tom’s two children with Nicole Kidman, Katie’s had plenty of parenting practice. Because while Connor and Isabella spend a part of each year with their Oscar-winning mom, most of their time is spent with their father and stepmother. “Katie never tried to replace Nicole,” the source explains to OK!. “But the way she brought the family together was just textbook-right for how a stepparent should handle the role.”

TomKat’s Baby Plans

September 19th, 2007

It might be time to make way for another TomKitten.

Nearly 18 months after welcoming Suri into the world, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are ready to add to their clan, and they are thinking pink!

“It’s something they want to do sooner rather than later,” a source from Tom’s Berlin Rubicon set tells OK!. “Suri has been such a joy for Tom, so he’d be more than happy to have another girl. Katie feels the same.”

Everything seems to be pointing in the direction of a pregnancy for TomKat, including Katie’s wide-open datebook. While Tom, 45, has another film, The Hardy Men, on his plate after he wraps Rubicon next month, Katie has nothing lined up.
