Kym Johnson’s DWTS Diary: Rehearsals Week 3, Vegas with Donny & Marie!

September 8th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

kym-blog-pic-167x2252Dancing with the Stars pro Kym Johnson has teamed up with OK! to update you every week on the triumphs and travails as she attempts to turn her celeb partner Donny Osmond into a ballroom champion!

Hi, everyone! Welcome to my third OK! blog, which I’m writing on Labor Day from Los Angeles. Donny is spending holiday time with his family, of course, so I decided to hop on a plane and have one day in L.A. with my friends and family to recharge my batteries — and quite honestly, to do laundry! I’m having a great time but have been living like a gypsy so it’s nice to get some clean clothes. Read more »

Marie Osmond: So What if My Daughter’s Gay?

May 20th, 2009

If you expect Mormon Marie Osmond to be anything but supportive of her daughter Jessica, who is a lesbian, you’d be wrong. The entertainer and mother of eight says she’s totally supportive of her eldest child.

"I love my daughter! She’s my baby girl, come on," she tells Entertainment Tonight. "So what if she’s gay? She’s my daughter and she’s an amazing woman and a good kid. I raised her, she better be good."

Marie adds that her religion is no impediment when it comes to loving her children, regardless of their sexual orientation.

"I think it’s sad when we have to separate something from society. Whether it’s, ‘Oh you’re Jewish,’ and then it was ‘Oh you’re a Mormon,’ or ‘Oh you’re gay.’ I love real people," she explains. "A lot of women out there have gay children. Who cares? I want love. I’m a Christian and Christ loved everybody."

Preach it, Marie!

Madonna’s Got Nothing on Marie Osmond

April 17th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

For most people, turning 50 is a moment for reflection — and a massive party. But not
Marie Osmond — she’s too busy. The iconic entertainer and Dancing With the Stars
alum stars in a sellout Las Vegas show with her brother Donny, has an upcoming TV talk show and has written a new book called Might as Well Laugh About It Now. Marie, a NutriSystem spokeswoman, tells OK! about being a mom to eight kids, her inspiring weight loss and why Madonna ain’t got nothing on her.

OK!: How will you mark your 50th birthday in October?

I have no clue! I don’t care. Fifty is the female F-word to a lot of people. I have eight beautiful children; I have a book, a TV show, a show with my brother in Vegas. I’m grateful and incredibly happy.

OK!: What’s your new book about?

It’s a collection of poignant moments in my life. I want my kids to be able to read about me when I’m gone.

OK!: What can we expect from your talk show?

It’ll be chick chat. I’ve had divorces, I have a big family with kids who have struggled. Hopefully, I can pass on things that I’ve learned.

OK!: Are you dating?

No, I can’t get anybody to sign a prenup on the first date! [Laughs.] It’s not a priority for me. I’m so busy. If you can take me out from 1 a.m. till 3 a.m., we can give it a shot!

OK!: Would you consider adopting again?

Absolutely not. I’m done — eight is enough. I’m the original Octomom!

OK!: What do you think of Octomom?

I don’t care… I think there’s been enough about her.

OK!: Are you a strict mom?

I think my children love me, and I think children need boundaries. I haven’t always been a perfect mom, and I don’t know anyone who is.

OK!: How did you lose weight during DWTS?

It’s all about attitude. Don’t think, “I must be skinny.” Think, “I want to be healthy.”

OK!: Did your kids inspire you to slim down?

My oldest son came to me and said, “Mom, you’re going to die, because heart disease runs in our family.” I wanted to punch him in the face when he told me I needed to lose weight [laughs]. I thought, “My goodness. I need to live to be with my kids and grandkids.”

OK!: What’s your workout?

My exercise routine is my very energetic show at the Flamingo in Vegas. I like to lift weights to stay toned. And I listen to audiobooks on my iPhone while I walk for 30 minutes to an hour every day.

OK!: What size are you now?
I don’t know. My bones are tiny, so don’t compare yourself to me, that’s ridiculous.
Go for a size that feels healthy.

OK!: Do you have any tips or secrets for looking young?

Love yourself. Common sense says you should drink a lot of water and eat vegetables and fruits.

OK!: How do you keep going?

I’m a woman who’s been working consistently in this business for 45 years. I don’t know of a woman in this business who’s had a career that long. Madonna is a couple years older than me, but I’ve been working longer than her. I think you have to keep reinventing yourself. And never give up!

Donny Osmond Shoots Down DWTS Rumors

January 28th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

For any Marie Osmond fans who had hoped to see her brother and frequent co-star Donny Osmond follow her footsteps onto the Dancing With the Stars stage, we have some bad news for you.

Just the other day, the Internet was ablaze with rumors that he’d be appearing on the upcoming eighth season of the hit ABC show after he said on the The Bonnie Hunt Show that "I am seriously considering doing it," but now the entertainer has come forward to clear the air once and for all.

"I’m definitely not doing this upcoming season," Donny tells Entertainment Tonight. However, he has left open the possibility that he might do some small-screen rug-cutting in the future. "If there was an offer on the table, I’d do it in the fall. I would make room for it. Absolutely!"

Donny Osmond on DWTS?

January 27th, 2009

If Donny Osmond has anything to do with it, Marie Osmond won’t be the only bona fide dancer in their family!

Season 8 of Dancing With the Stars is rapidly approaching, with a March start date, and Donny set tongues a’waggin’ at a taping of The Bonnie Hunt Show as to whether he’ll be competing for the championship crown.

"Well, I guess I am making an announcement," he hedged as his sister stood by his side. "I’ll say I am seriously considering doing it, let’s put it that way."

If the back-and-forth smack talk between the brother and sister is any indication, Donny’s definitely about to start practicing his rumba — "Who do you think taught her how to dance?" he joked about Marie, before basically admitting his plans.

"It is going to be very difficult because I am going to be doing Vegas on top of doing Dancing with the Stars," he said.

So, can we count that as a yes?

Marie Osmond: Donny Couldn’t Handle DWTS!

May 12th, 2008

Her headline-making run on the last season of Dancing With the Stars was a huge boost to the career of Marie Osmond. But don’t expect her brother Donny Osmond to slip on his dancing shoes anytime soon.

"I don’t want to show her up," Donny told OK! about why he wouldn’t try out for the hit ABC ballroom dancing show. However, Marie, who came oh-so-close to winning last year, says he’s not telling the whole truth.

"He couldn’t do it," she explains. "It’s too hard. He can’t stand it if his toenail is broken!"

Another thing that Marie says might be too hard for Donny — or any man — is motherhood. "It’s the most underpaid, thankless job on the planet," she told OK!, before adding, "I love it."

As for how the single mom and entertainer balances the demands of motherhood and performing, Marie, who co-hosted this weekend’s NBC special, Teleflora Presents America’s Favorite Mom, with Donny, explains, "You just wake up everyday and give it a shot."

And what advice would Marie give to other mothers? "I don’t," she states. "I wouldn’t. Every mom is different."

Donny & Marie Offered $$ to Pose Nude!

May 1st, 2008

The world could’ve seen a whole lot more of Donny and Marie Osmond!

In the wake of Miley Cyrus’ provocative, nearly-nude Vanity Fair shoot, the famous brother-sister duo reveal to The Insider that they fielded numerous offers to strip down to their birthday suits during their youthful heyday.

"I was offered millions of dollars to pose nude and all these other things, but you know always in the back of my mind was the thought that I’m going to have children someday," Marie shares.

Her big bro felt the same way. Courted by Playgirl relentlessly, Donny says he repeatedly turned down their offers because he didn’t want to take the easy way out to keep his name in the headlines.

"I wouldn’t go that way and I didn’t go that way,” he says. “I know it would have worked as far as creating controversy and changing my image, but I would rather do it the hard way with my music and do it the right way."

As for Miley’s photos, the two are against the photos of the bared back singer, deeming her "too young" to participate in the shoot. The Hannah Montana star, Marie believes, succumbed to industry pressure to grow up too soon.

"You get so much so quickly and it’s about the pleasure instead of the work ethics," she says. "I understand what she’s going through. I had my first hit record when I was 12."

Donny, for his part, feels Annie Liebovitz ought to shoulder most of the blame. Having worked with her a few times as a teen, he recalls the famed photographer as a pusher.

"[She shot] me when I was about 14 or 15 years old for the cover of Rolling Stone. It’s always, ‘Push it a little farther,’ he recalls. "She went a little too far with that picture [of Miley]."

Donny and Marie: Vegas Bound

April 24th, 2008

Donny and Marie Osmond just don’t seem to slow down. The dynamic brother and sister duo revealed to the Insider that their new Las Vegas variety show will feature a full orchestra and—big surprise for Dancing With the Stars runner-up Marie—dancing, dancing, dancing.

"It’s been almost 29 years since Marie and I have been here for a long stint in Vegas. We want to bring heart and soul to the show. The entire state of Utah is going to converge on Sin City!" said Donny, speaking of the duo’s loyal Mormon following.

"With Donny and Marie it’s ‘Sincere City!’" joked Marie.

One thing Donny’s sincere about is helping his sister get a date. Newly single Marie, who divorced from her husband of 21 years last year, is on the prowl and Donny’s viewing videos submitted by Insider viewers to find her a special someone.
