Javier Bardem Skipping Osars Over Penélope?

February 21st, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

It’s a long-standing Oscar tradition for the previous year’s Best Supporting Actor winner to present the award to the new Best Supporting Actress.

But don’t expect last year’s Oscar-winner, sexy Spanish star Javier Bardem, to be handing off that Supporting Actress statuette tomorrow. The reason — at least according to E! News anchor Giuliana Rancic — is that he wants to avoid a potentially awkward encounter with his own girlfriend, Penélope Cruz

Penélope is nominated for her role in the Woody Allen film Vicky Cristina Barcelona (which also co-starred Javier), and at a pre-Oscars dinner at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, attended by another Best Supporting Actress nominee Taraji P. Henson, Giuliana told OK!, "I got an e-mail from a source that said Javier is not going to show because he doesn’t want to acknowledge his relationship with Penélope. They’re a couple that likes to stay under the radar and so meeting on the Oscars stage would blow their cover. Would Javier kiss Penelope if she won? Would they hug? Would they shake hands? He’s worried it could be an awkward scene."

Of course if the award goes to Taraji or any of the other nominees — Amy Adams, Viola Davis or Marisa Tomei — it will have been all for nothing.

Marisa Tomei Bares All

December 29th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

In the upcoming film The Wrestler, Marisa Tomei strips down as an exotic dancer in a relationship with a down-and-out pro wrestler (Mickey Rourke). It’s not the first time the actress has gotten naked in a film (she has an explicit nude scene in Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead), but Tomei is the first to admit she’s no exhibitionist.

"I’m uncomfortable with exposing myself," she tells Parade.com. "But in these films I think what I did was appropriate and I’m proud of it. Actually, I ‘m concerned with a lot more than how my body looks. I just find it really hard to watch myself in general. But being nude was weird. And now I’m seeiming like the actress who does that, which wasn’t my intention."

Marisa, 44, who bares an amazing figure in the film, attributes good genes and, believe it or not, hula hooping!

"I have a travel hoop. You can twist it in half but it’s adult size, not like a little kids hula hoop," she says. "It’s really good for your core strength."

Tomei says she and Rourke "were on the same page from the beginning" when making The Wrestler and despite reports that he was difficult to work with, she says, "It was like, ‘Bring it on’. We just jumped in with each other and he just slipped into his role seamlessly."

So will Marisa be making any mainstream films in the future?

"I do things like The Wrestler for not a lot of money and then I get p.o.’d at myself and think, ‘I’ve got to make more of a living than this,’" she says.  "I show up a lot when other actors won’t. There’s a lot of downside to it. Not a lot in the scheme of life, but in terms of comfort and money and risk."

She continues, "Sometimes when I get really worried, I think, ‘I can still get a job.’ But a lot of it is luck. There’s all kinds of pressures but if you start really thinking about those pressures you’re really missing the point of why you wanted to act in the first place.

Marisa Tomei: “I’m Concerned with How My Body Looks”

May 23rd, 2008

Most actresses subscribe to strict diets or exacting workout regimens to maintain a svelte body in Hollywood – but not Marisa Tomei. What does she do?

"I pray a lot like, ‘Keep me skinny please,’” the actress tells Parade.com.

Admitting she has “cyclical weight problems,” Marisa gets candid about the pressure to remain thin in the demanding Hollywood stratosphere, home to oh-so-many eating disorders.

“I’m concerned with how my body looks and I just find it really hard to watch myself,” she says. “It’s very tough when you’re in different cities and different time zones. Often my schedule during filming just doesn’t give me time to work out.”

It’s even tougher when you sign onto a film with a graphic sex scene. The Oscar winner, who can next be seen in War Inc., won the Mr. Skin Best Nude Scene Award for her romp in last year’s Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead with Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Calling the nudity “appropriate” for the film, the 43-year-old says she just had to go for it when she saw the scene in the script.

“I said to myself, ‘It’s now or never,’” Marisa says. “I admit I felt a little faint before I did it. I don’t think I’d eaten in like two days. The most embarrassing part is having your family watch it.”
